This story was originally taking place on easter Island, but when I looked over the main thread once more I found I had completely forgot this wasnt on 'Planet Earth' So, Many themes may be the same XPI was called upon recently by Benathorn and her partner, Jendalie, to investigate some 'out of the ordinary' occurances on a small island. Honored that they would choose me for such a task, I accepted it right off the bat and began to do my various researches on the Island, and pack for the trip. Being honored for an opportunity to take this job on wasn't the only reason I accepted.
I looked over my notes again, and found that Benathorn had only given me a brief description of what the Natives were experiencing, and decided that I would need to do further investigation of these said occurances before I could go wandering into the unknown.
When my boat docked, I quickly asked for a translator, since there was a good chance I was going to need one when asking about the phenomena.
I figured that since it was the only town on this very sacred island, I should ask around Hanga Roa first, just to see if I could find some first hand accountants whom could explain the occurances into further detail.
It wasnt too long before we found a eye witness of the phenomena, what they said was interesting.
I had asked about the Pupil on various Moai glowing a eerie purple, and the native immediately began to explain.
My translator told me that the villager was saying some mischievous children wandered into an ancient cave, and disturbed the heirlooms that where supposed to be hidden there for safe keeping. Then she described the Aku-Aku that guarded the cave growing enraged, and began tampering with the Moai to scare Natives away from the cave.
I didnt quite know what an Aku Aku was, until my translator explained to me.
He said that "Aku-aku are guardians of heirlooms hidden in island caves, and many aku-aku live in these caves."
This was already a good lead, and I could begin to investigate further right away.
I asked her if she knew the location of the ancient cave, and she refused to tell me any more of her knowledge.
Moving on from that eye witness, I went to find the connection with the moai and the aku aku.
I found that the pupils of Moai, were made of Obsidian, a volcanic glass that is formed when magma cools rapidly with minimum crystal growth.
This was an interesting fact, but still, I could not make a connection between it and the moai.
It came to midnight, and I went on foot towards a Volcano that formed in the northernmost part of the Island.
As I walked there, I felt a persistent, eerie breeze that failed to die off, and I noticed the Moai eyes begin to glow slightly.
Was I getting closer to the ancient cave the villager had mentioned? It certainly wasn't my intention, but I began to follow the moai as their pupils began to glow more and more.
I saw an opening as the land began to slope upwards, and walked faster toward it. However I was stopped by a small black mass standing defensively not only a few meters from its entrance, between two Moai statues. As I looked at it more, it took the shape of a rune.
There where shards of Pure obsidian hovering beside a small, incomplete wing, though, as I found out this rune was still capable of flight.
Some obsidian on this rune seemed to defy gravity, which intrigued me.
Its eyes where pure, white, and they glowed fiercely in the darkness, as the rune gave a hiss, I thought I could Identify 'Aku aku' somewhere in there, but being that runes cant speak, I shrugged it off.
I took a knee and held out a hand, talking to the fairly sized rune and it came closer to me, seeming to calm down.
Expecting more of these runes, I looked around, and found none in sight.
I further observed the obsidian rune and found that he was rather playful, but not easily trusting. I had to sit a distance from him for sometime in order to make him feel comfortable. If I came to close he would climb a moai statue and make its eyes glow at me fiercely, it was obviously his way of saying "Stay back!"
He blends in with any black color, though, if you shine light on him at an angle, you can identify slight purple.
When I was able to get close to him, I found that he was quite a trickster, he would snatch small things from my pockets, but return them when I asked.
One thing I can say about this guy, Is that you dont mess with what is important to him, because he can and will retaliate.
Yeah, sorry for the story being like that XP I must pay attention more.
