I traded two sea-horses for a ring, and got no pets. I thought if you traded in, you got an item AND a pet. Can some please help? :S

No, you only get the ring. Then, if you have 6 pieces of gold, you can trade those PLUS (you have to have it) the ring to get the pirate dog set <3

If I had the gold, where could I trade for the set?

You would trade the gold in the pirate ship near the bottom of the page.
