Secretgrudge kept his spitful glare on Spiderfrost even as Moonshade walked back to them. He was absolutly livid that she had brought that topic up.


Spiderfrost took the ivy silently and carried on her crude conversation with the bristling tom.
"All im saying is dont turn into a grouch like you do every year on the day it happened. Beside, she wasnt suppose to even have kits, she was an apprentice and way to young for you, you stupid fur-ball!" Spiderrost spat in disgust about something.

She had never wrapped her mind around the fact that someone like Secretgrudge would go through with such infidelity when his parents had been such sticklers for the code.

Moonshade looked away casually from the two bickering cats and cringed. She understood what had happened now; no wonder Secregrudge had wanted to keep that a secret. She couldn't believe he'd have kits with a young...
She stopped right there, not caring anymore. She sighed, staring at the ground as she thought of what to do when finally, her eyes sparked with concern at the thought of her hurt apprentice. She cut into the conversation and said in a quiet, simple tone, "...Is she going to be alright, Spiderfrost?"

"...Blame that conniving Frozenlily." he muttered grudgingly.
"She just wanted the respect my parents had in the clan..."


"That I would believe--" At the sound of Moonshade's open concern she turned to the deputy. She had almost forgotten about her presence while she and Secretgrudge had started to dig up old scars. The she-cat sighed.
"Who knows, I will admit she was lucky to come out of this without a broken spine...But her head was hit pretty hard and she has a broken leg. And due to the fact that she is pregnant the impact could have sent her body into shock, if she does survive this...there is a high chance she will loose her kits." she admitted and reinforced the splint with the ivy.

Moving on to Sagepaws stomach she felt around for the kits. She wouldn't be able to tell if they had been harmed in any way unless they were born. So for now their condition was a mystery. Turning to Moonshade and Secretgrudge she gave the 'ok' to move her.
"Just be extremely gentle, keep the leg in the splint straight."

Moonshade listened carefully and sighed with disappointment. She really hoped her kits would be alright; at least ONE of the two she-cats should have kits of their own. She looked at her still face as her medicine cat spoke, nodding occasionally. She blinked at Spiderfrost and understood how gentle she'd have to be. She would lift her the way she had before by herself, but that would only bend her broken leg.
Though she didn't want to, she spoke quietly, "Secretgrudge, help me lift her. And be careful." It wasn't a question. She didn't look at him at all as she ordered him and went over to Sagepaw, still feeling like this was her fault. She sighed and grasped her scruff and quickly slid under her chest to lift her gently, holding half her body in a position that kept her leg still and secure and made it easy to go back home.

Awkwardly, Secretgrudge obeyed his deputy and made sure Sagepaws body would not shift during the walk. He kept his muzzle shut, unable to find anything to say after his argument with Spiderfrost and his disagreement with Moonshade about kits.


Spiderfrost rolled her eyes in exasperation as she watched the two in their silence. Not even a family and already they were having a lovers quarrel. Sighing, she stalked off ahead.
"Jeez the two of you..." she muttered to herself.

Moonshade kept her gaze glued ahead as she waited for him to lift her and started to pad away from the borderline. The young deputy regarded the comment from Spiderfrost and said nothing to indicate she cared. She just moved along quietly, not uttering a word as her delicate paws traced over the forest debris lightly. When they finally reached the camp entrance, she let out a faint sigh of relief. She headed straight for the medicine cat den and laid Sagepaw down gently in one of the lush, plump nests and licked her forehead affectionately before turning to Spiderfrost. "Thank you for taking care of her," she said softly. She flicked one ear and added, "I'd stay with you but I need to organize patrols." Moonshade leaned forward and licked her medicine cat's shoulder; showing how grateful she really was for appearing at the perfect time in the forest and not slicing her own head off for hearing about her past. She blinked her dazzling, mysterious eyes and turned away without another word; feeling it was too much to even try to change Secretgrudge's mind.
She padded out of the den and limped towards the middle of the clearing as the other warriors stopped staring at her and Secretgrudge's wounds in confusion and shock when she raised her tail and cleared her throat. She started calling out names, placing them in groups to go to different spots in the territory; voice clear and full of knowing but her physical appearance proved how worn-out she felt; both from the fight and her episode with Secretgrudge. Her pelt was somewhat battered from the fight and she had a few minor scratches to add on to the hurt leg she'd crushed when she was flung off the creature's back. The beautiful, tired young she-cat stood at an angle to keep her weight off it and her eyes were cloudy - filled with distraction and exhaustion.
Once she was done, she made her way slowly to the warrior's den, wanting just to rest after a hard day like today. She passed Secretgrudge with her tired gaze fixed on the ground; her mind seeming to be somewhere else. Today would've been happy. It would've been amazing nothing else happened after Secretgrudge said he was in love with her the same way she was with him. But no. Every possible bad thing had to happen to her right now. She let out a heavy sigh and laid down slowly in her nest, wincing slightly when she tried to bend her leg. She rested her head on the lip of her nest, closed her eyes but couldn't fall asleep.

Sagepaw turned around and walked with the three cats. She had heard the news about her kits and wanted to cry, forever. There couldn't be a way that her kits survived without some terrible trauma, or deformations after their birth. Sagepaw hung her head low, and walked behind everyone else. A broken leg, head injury, and possibly no kits, okay, well, none of them know that I'm here. Maybe I could act dumb? No. I'll have to tell them what happened, it could be important! I'll just talk to Moonshade. With that, Sagepaw padded quickly up to Moonshade, and whispered in her ear, "Moonshade, I'm not gone! I'm right here, walking with you, I can see you," She whispered.

Moonshade shifted in her nest, wanting to fall asleep but didn't. She sighed with annoyance. Then she felt something by her face tickle her ear fur and she lifted her head quickly. Her dark blue eyes were wide with confusion when she noticed no one else was there. Then she heard something. She looked around her, but still nothing. Maybe she was going insane... She licked her back fur, smoothing down the fur that had lifted in her surprise. But she did hear something. She swallowed hard. "...Hello?'' she whispered.

Sagepaw watched Moonshade jump, "Yes! Hello! It's me! Sagepaw!" She pleaded. She wanted so desperately for Moonshade to see her.

I can see that tiny light inside you, crying to break free.

Starpaw dashed out of the Medicine Cat Cleft where they slept and kept storage. "Oh my gosh! Spiderfrost, what happened to her!?" She fretted, and ran over to the limp body of the young queen. "What herbs do you want me to fetch!?"

Moonshade jumped when she actually heard an answer and she looked around again but still nothing. She did hear a voice though, and a familiar one at that. She knit her eyebrows curiously. "Sagepaw, are you awake now?" She wondered if she was outside the entrance to the warrior's den. The dark-pelted deputy stood in her nest, making her way over and tipped her head to one side; impressed that her apprentice was awake already. She scented the air but there was no scent. She stopped dead in her tracks, afraid of what was going on. "Um.... Sagepaw?"
