Hi, Chibi (Now Early Bird) here. :3
So I gave up on my last story, Eragon, simply because I was bored of writing it. I had no idea where I was going with it, I had a good start, but no ending. So I've decided to start a new story, one that will blow your hats off.
(Don't get too excited. XD) Anyways, my new story will be posted here soon, as soon as I've finished the first 'lil bit. Its just a sneak peak, to get you guys hooked. (Hopefully)
So here goes nothing..
Note to readers-
Please tell me what you think! I love feedback. Critique is welcome too. Don't be afraid to be a little mean, I won't bite, unless you bite me first. ^^
Another note-
This story is inspired by James Pattersons's Maximum Ride. It's a great series, and if you haven't already read it I suggest you do. C:

Run, get away. Don't stop. Run.
My bare feet pounded against the cold metal floors, and I ignored the burning sensation in my heels. Sweat poured off my forehead but I kept on running. I could hear them coming, although they weren't close. I heard their words, loud and clear. "Project 3.147 is escaping. Requesting backup on floor 6..." I stopped listening and focused on the road ahead. The tangle of hallways were unfamiliar to me, so I just ran blindly through the Lab. I had no clue where I was going, just as long as I put as much distance between myself and them as possible. The doors on either side of the hallways became blurs as I ran. I knew I could outrun them, I was faster then the average human. Much faster. I was also smarter, but I don't mean to brag.
I turned a corner, and skidded to a halt in front of an elevator. I grinned and slammed my fist on the up button. Immediately, the doors slid open and I stepped inside. The doors closed and I felt my as if my heart would leap out of my chest. I felt enclosed, trapped, stuck. I wanted open spaces. I wanted to get out of this elevator. I gathered up my courage and glanced at the sea of buttons before me. Hundreds, maybe thousands of buttons, each one for a different floor. Man, this place is huge. I thought as my eyes raked the list. Each button had a label underneath. Floor 27, floor 26, 25.... I skipped to the bottom, where I found the word Out. I gulped and pressed it, and the elevator jerked upwards. I'd been in elevators before, but every time I got into one I felt claustrophobic.
I watched as the floors flew by, up until it reached floor one, then out. The doors slid open and I tumbled out, falling onto my knees. I lifted myself up, feeling pathetic, but my embarrassment was soon forgotten as I glanced at the world around me.
Blue sky. Clouds. Trees. Grass. the wind. The dirt. The fresh air. The freedom. I loved every second of it. I took my first breath of the outside world. Yes, my first breath. I had never, in my whole fourteen years of living, been outside the Lab. I sunk my toes into the earth, letting the cool breeze ruffle my strawberry-blond curls. Next thing I knew, I was running through the forest, my troubles shoved to the back of my mind. I ran faster and faster, pulling myself away from the only thing I knew. I whooped and screamed with delight. This had to be the best day of my life.
I am fourteen years old, and today was the first time I have ever seen the sunlight. They call me Project 3.147, but I don't know what that means. So I gave myself a new name, one that suits me.
Scarlet.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.
Somebody left the gate open
You know we got lost on the way
Come save us a runaway train
Goin' insane
How do we
How do we not fade
How do we how do we

The grass glistened with early morning dew as I sat, my back slumped against a heavy oak tree trunk. I let each blade tickle my feet as I watched the clouds pass by. Always changing shape, never changing course. These were the days I liked the most. The days of freedom. It was warm, for September, with only a cool breeze to keep me from heat stroke. How long I sat there, admiring the world around me, I did not know. I tend to do that, lose track of time so easily. A bluejay fluttered down from the branches of the oak tree I sat by and landed squarely on my right knee. I watched it as it hopped around, not daring to move in case it flew away. It pecked me, quite hard for such a small creature, and a small trickle of blood slipped down my leg. I winced in pain, but only in a pinch kind of pain. Slowly, I reached out my hand and wiped away the blood, which stained the sleeve of my sweater. Then, I reached out, very slowly, towards the bluejay. It bounced slightly around my knee in anticipation, as if it were anxious to meet someone. My index finger touched the top of its head, lightly, and it jerked upwards in surprise. I thought it would bite me, but no. It started to, it, purred, but in a bird-like kind of fashion. I wasn’t sure what it was feeling, scared, happy, or just ticked off, but it didn’t move from my knee. It stayed there, its eyes fixed on mine. I stroked its head, and it purred again. I laughed silently, not wanting to disturb it. “I think, I think I’ll call you Pajel,” I whispered, unsure on why I chose Pajel. Pajel was a scientist, back at the Lab. He never spoke to me, he never did anything kind to me, but he was never as cruel as the other lab workers were. I guess thats why I remembered him.
Uh oh. The Lab. It brought back unwanted memories, memories that I wanted desperately to forget. It had been three months since my escape, and I was living in a cave with my newfound friend, Bea. Her real name is Beatrice, but I’m not sure how to pronounce that. She never told me why she lives in a cave, and I never ask. I never told her about my experience at the Lab. We don’t speak much, we’re both not much of a chatterbox. Pajel, who still stood on top of my knee, spread out his wings and pushed down with all the force a little bluejay could muster, then took off to the skies.
I stood up and brushed the dirt of the back of my shorts, then slipped on my sneakers. I had been sitting in the forest by the mountain where my cave is. I started to hike back up, taking in the familiar forest scents as I walked; bark, cedar, sap, pine, dirt, the works. Ever since my escape, the forest has been a special place for me, a safe place. I came to a clearing, a large one. This looks like a good place, I thought. I pulled off my sweater and tied it around my waist. Underneath, I wore a simple blue t-shirt with two holes ripped in the back. I took a deep breath, and closed my eyes. Two shapes began to unfold from in between my shoulder blades, slipping out the holes and coming up to their full length. Golden, like, well, gold. Wings. Thank you, Lab. I guess you could say I was, glad, that I had my wings. But this was only step one. And I honestly don’t want to know what step two has in store for me.
I started running, the wind guiding my every step, until I was only a few yards away from the trees. Then I pushed down, feeling my feet let go of the ground beneath. Finally, I was in the sky. Like Pajel. The bird, not the scientist. No, I’m not an angel. I’m an experiment. Project 3.147. Scarlet.
I’m half human, half griffon.

I landed gracefully inside the cave, tucking in my wings carefully. Bea was there, waiting for me. Her long brown curls were tied up in a messy ponytail, with a few loose strands hanging down on either side. Her eyes were the same as usual, big, green and excited. She had a thin smile on her face, as she always did whenever I came home. Bea didn't leave the cave much, or ever, so company was a big treat. She wore her everyday outfit, jeans, sneakers, blue t-shirt and green sweater. She circled around me, examining my every inch. Then she reached out for my wing and pulled it out. I winced, yanking it back. "Bea, what was that for?" I exclaimed, pulling my wing forward and stroking it protectively. She smiled, in an I-have-something-really-cool-to-tell-you kind of smile. "Someone wants to see you." she replied, grasping my hand in hers and pulling me inside the house.
Yeah, when I said 'cave' before, I didn't really mean, just a plain old cave. We live in a small log cabin inside a cave. No cavemen here. Its fully furnished, probably an old abandoned cottage for skiers. I found it exactly two days after my escape from the Lab. It had been raining, and I could hear thunder coming from up north. I took shelter in a tree - Yeah, not my best move during a thunderstorm - and then I saw the cave. I flew up and saw the cabin, and it looked comfier than the cave. So I went in, and who should I meet inside but Bea. Of course, she saw me fly up, and so I had to explain my escape from the Lab. The rest, well you get the picture.
"Who?" I asked, perplexed. I skidded to a halt before she could get inside the cabin. She shrugged, her smile widening. I frowned, and, trust me, I regret what I did next, I walked right inside with my wing unfolded.
"Well, well, well, who is this Beatrice?" It was a man's voice, no doubt. He was tall, with sleek black greasy hair and a long pointed nose. His eyes were hidden beneath his sunglasses. He wore a black suit with a white tie. He looked... familiar. Bea ran right up to him and threw her ams around him, embracing him. Now I was very confused. "Scarlet, this is Mr. Loid. My dad."
Loid. I know that name. Loid... Doctor Loid. Scientist from the lab. Bea's dad. I backed away, tucking in my wing. He snickered. "Don't try to hide it, Scarlet, was that your name?" I gulped. How could this be Bea's dad? And why was she so glad to see him? I thought she'd run away from home? "He's come here to find me." said Bea, answering my question. "Says he's been travelling for three whole months just to find me." In a suit? "I told him about you and he told me that he wanted to meet you straight away."
"You told him?" I breathed, pressing myself against the wall. He grinned. "A wise decision, Beatrice. This is a very rare specimen." He dropped his voice into a fake whisper, just loud enough so I could hear. "It could be quite dangerous when provoked." I growled, wanting to throw a punch at his face. "Now now, Scarlet, lets not get angry with me." He advanced towards me. "Scarlet, what an interesting name. You chose that yourself, did you? I thought Freak would be more... appropriate." I gulped, then reached out for the doorknob. I twisted in and the door swung open. I looked over my shoulder to see if he was following, but he stayed right where he was, still grinning. "Creep," I breathed, spreading out my wings and pushing down. Something fell over top of me... a net? My foot was caught inside of it, my wings tangled up. I fell to the ground, winded. Dr. Loid walked out calmly, followed by Bea. She had a look of horror on her face. "Dad, don't do this." she begged, her eyes locked on my wings. "She's a friend." He laughed, kicking me in the side. I coughed. "Friend? This, this creature, is your friend?" Tears began to flow from Bea's eyes, and I felt sorry for her. "Dad, please-"
"Shut up, stupid girl!" He snapped, pointing his finger against her chin threateningly. "Or do you want to end up in a net too?" She gulped, and looked down on me and mouthed, "I'm sorry."
"Take it away." Ordered Doctor Loid. Two men, each dressed in identical suits, came towards me. The last thing I remember is Dr. Loid taking a kick at my face, and being knocked out cold.
