Bailey Male Raider

Bailey padded silently away from Cheyenne and Dezerae. While he was interested in helping Cheyenne grow more confident around the rest of the pack, he didn't know how to do so - especially since he was distant with the other pack members. He pondered his earlier idea to talk to Demetri about integrating Cheyenne into Alysia and Zach's group, but was once again cut short as he spotted a cluster of dogs by the bridge. Ears pricked and tail raised slightly, the male paused briefly as he caught the flash of an unfamiliar pelt. As soon as he lost sight of the newcomer, the Retriever trotted over to the pack kept their food stored. Once he made it to the crevice where food was stored, Bailey deposited his catch before stepping back. His pale eyes took in the fairly wide gap then the close proximity to the bridge's beams. With a shake of his head, Bailey stepped away before turning toward the clustered dogs.

As he drew closer to the gathering of canines, he noticed a tall, lean form toward the center - the new dog he'd glanced earlier. It was a female, with similar looks to a Greyhound he'd once encountered when he was with his owner. Bailey could tell that she'd been accepted into the pack, as most dogs had taken on more relaxed stances and Niall was talking to her amicably. Still wary of the larger female, he came to a stop by Okami, who was laying down to the side of the group, as he watched what would occur next.

Cheyenne Female Raider Trainee

Cheyenne glanced up quickly to see Dezerae backing away as she spoke. When the older female, turned around to lead, Cheyenne snatched up her raided food and scrambled to catch up with the long legged female. Claws clicking as she walked, Cheyenne nearly had to run to keep up with the easy gait of Dezerae. Sneaking a sideways glance at the black dog, Cheyenne wondered why the female was putting up with her. "T-Thank you," she growled softly around her food.

Every one is different. Sometimes if you are too outright bad things happen... But on the other hand if you sugar-coat things that doesn't help anyone either. He looked up at her once more, she doesn't look like a wimpy dog, no, if anything she looks like she's tough. She can handle it. And if she can't... then we'll just have to... eh, hopefully it won't happen. Then she made her wise-crack comment about his name and he raised an eyebrow questioningly before he tossed a look in the direction of Siren and Demitri. He would have thought that they would have given her their names, but he didn't know what the circumstances were when they found her. With his eyebrow still raised he said, "Yes, I am Bruce, and I do have a name. I thought almost everyone did." Then Okami began speaking and he was silent once again. He watched her as she talked calmly. He was impressed that she was able to react to her so well. I mean he didn't doubt her, but that still didn't change that he was impressed.

He then heard Niall ask him about needing him, Of course I need you. I need all the help I can get. I still don't know how Lyra's going to react to different things that need to be explained to her. Actually, I'm not sure if I want to be the one to explain, perhaps Niall would be better... Shut it, you're the alpha, and you must keep with your responsibilities. "I will. So don't go anywhere yet." He sighed. He was going to have to explain to her what being in the Devil's Kin meant. But before he started he turned to the others and said quietly, "I'm probably going to forget some stuff, so please help me out." He then took a deep breath, It's alright. She needs to know. "Have you heard of the Devil's Kin? Or does it not ring a bell?" He paused before continuing, "Regardless, we are a pack that tends to be feared. Not for anything that we have done, but for what we do and how we were formed." He hoped he was making sense, "Siren over there, or maybe Okami can tell you our basic history later, if you don't know already," He made a gesture to Siren and then Okami, "But for now 'll tell you what this means for you. You found us, and that means that we cannot let you leave." Everything wasn't going to make sense at first, and since he had never been the best at explaining things it just added up.

Lyra
Lyra listens to Okami as she speaks, somehow finding comfort in the fact that she at least has a name. "It's not the eating I'm worried about..." Lyra says quietly, not interrupting as Okami continues. More so what you'd think of me if you knew what I was... What I've done. The wolf-dogs words make little sense to her, and she only half takes in the meaning of what was said. Lyra has always been a realist, concerning herself primarily with what she can see and feel. The dirt beneath her paws, the wind in her fur and the taste of blood in her mouth. Some of her earliest memories as a pup were of her training to hunt down coyotes, racing in tracks after a shred of fur drug in the dirt. They were always something to hunt, to be killed as pests and nothing more. She never considered trying to talk to them, nor even the mere fact that they might have a voice. Now, here before her very eyes is a fea who seems to be more coyote than dog, speaking calmly with her.

Why did they have to bring me here? They should have left me where life made sense. Lyra thinks unhappily, and says nothing more in reply to Okami as she walks away. Her eyes following Okami, she doesn't even hear Niall when he introduces himself. She watches as a smallish, honey colored dog with floppy ears approaches Okami and stops by her side, taking no more notice of the wolfish dog than one would a terrier. He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare, And he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere... The quote crosses her mind, remembering something her father had said, so very long ago that she can barely touch on it. It seems like a different life, or at the least a lifetime ago. Yet then Bruce is speaking to her again, and she pulls her eyes away from Okami to look at him, trying to take in what he says. "The Devil's Kin... Of course. It is nearly impossible to meet a dog in this wretched place that doesn't have something ominous to say about the Devil's Kin." Lyra answers him quietly, still somewhat distracted.

Bruce finishes then, saying much the same things she has heard already, and Lyra understands nothing more of it than she did the first time. What she does gain, is a blossoming sense of self-satisfaction in learning that the black dog with the golden eyes really does have a name. She looks over Siren then, a bit of a smug look on her face before turning back to Bruce as he finishes. "Good. I've got nowhere better to be anyways." She finishes, having not the slightest idea what she is agreeing to. "So what next?"

(( Alright guys, I'm going to be quite busy for the next month, maybe more. I'll try to be on as much as I can, but it won't be very long. This post will not be one of my best so don't expect a lot from it xD ))

Niall

Nodding once to Bruce, Niall sat by his side, turning back to face Lyra. She was somewhat Greyhound-like, with the same long nose and thin, agile figure. But there was something very different about her that sent his mind spinning, and he couldn't put a paw on what it was.
A new wisp of a scent entered his nostrils, causing him to focus on that instead of the fae. Niall looked to his left, soon figuring out the smell was Bailey. A nice dog, he is. He always seemed very... collected. To Niall, at least. Is Bailey my friend? He thought, still looking at the golden dog. I hope so. He's always nice to me, even though I never really speak to him. I probably drive him crazy though never shows it. This argument went on in his head until he finally decided, Yes, Bailey is my friend. Then something Lyra said made him turn back.

Niall frowned, he eyes narrowing in confusion. Normally dogs seemed to need a bit more convincing, and usually canines didn't understand what Bruce meant by, "We can't let you leave." He cleared his face, though his eyes still stuck with that confused look, before he glanced at Bruce, wondering what was next.

Dezerae

Dezerae didn't answer Cheyenne, still going on with her easy gait, though she was glancing around them now as a new smell alerted her nose. She lead the younger dog to the food crevice where they stored all the catches. Looking around once more, she turned back to the small female and nodded, saying, "No problem." Dezerae then frowned in concentration, trying to locate the new scent. Successful, she gestured for Cheyenne to follow her, and set off at a quicker pace than her last, though she wasn't running.

Bast

After dropping her catch into the crevice, Bast suddenly realized that no dogs were around, except for a younger dog, and the oracle apprentice, who was trotting away from the food storage. Only then did Bast notice the wisp of a new scent in the air. She bounded forward, tracking the scent quickly, stopping when the saw them. Nearly the whole pack, besides a new face she didn't recognize. Slowly moving towards the group of dogs, she slunk up silently next to Okami, though still keeping her distance.

Bailey Male Raider

Bailey blinked in suprise at Lyra's quick and calm acceptance of what Bruce had just told her. Did the female really understand what she was agreeing to? Eyes narrowed, the golden dog tried to see if the female was ignorant of the truth or just didn't care about the consequences of such an agreement. He glanced over to Bruce and Niall to see how they were handling her simple acceptance of what the leader of their 'pack' had said.

The male glanced to the side, noticing movement in his peripheral vision. Dezerae and Cheyenne were padding away from the crevices in which raided food was stored, and Bast had come to stand near Okami and him on the fringe of the gathered group of dogs. I wonder if she's bothered by the number of dogs gathered around her, Bailey wondered briefly before he lost interest in the thought. At the moment, the newcomer wasn't showing in aggression or any odd behavior so the retriever figured that she'd be just another dog in the pack to him - she didn't stand out more than her ignorant acceptance of joining the Devil's Kin. That didn't account for much in Bailey's mind, so he only showed mild interest in what was to occur next.

A Loner at Heart

Cheyenne Female Raider Trainee

Cheyenne was grateful to have her catch finally out of her jaws. The muscles around her mouth were tired from carrying so much making them feel weird when there was nothing solid between her teeth any longer. The merle Border Collie looked over to Dezerae and saw her walking over to a large cluster of dogs at a swift pace. Are we missing a meeting? Cheyenne wondered briefly before she darted after the older female. The young pup looked up as she rushed to keep up with Dezerae's long-legged gait to see if something was wrong. She noticed a faint frown in the black dog's expression before she looked back to the group of dogs, still trying to figure out what was going on. Cheyenne felt a vague yearning for knowledge of the pack's ways and members, but the stirring was faint and she easily supressed it as she tried to read what was unfolding among the dogs in the center of the group - having recognized Bruce, although not the other dogs in the middle.

Dogs say those things for a reason. They are not in vain. Although many of them stretch the truth, they don't know any better. It's hard to know about things that it's almost impossible to see. But he did notice one thing about her that would be really hard not to miss, she was distracted, and it was likely that she wasn't even understanding what she was saying. He really wished that she would take this seriously. This was no laughing matter. She was never going to be able to be in contact with any dogs that weren't in this pack, otherwise she was condemning them to a life of misery... or death. This wouldn't, no couldn't be the case forever, because if she was careless and started doing her own thing they were going to have to get rid of her. He had only had to do it once before, and it was a choice that although he regretted it he knew that it was for the best of the pack, and of the rest of New York's strays. He decided not to think about that. It was best not to think like that. Shut up Bruce and keep on with it. She probably is acting like this because you're doing such a horrible job explaining it.

He was utterly shocked that she answered him so calmly. Why was she so willing? It was almost like she didn't care. Maybe she doesn't... But surely she must have a life, a family? Then he thought something else, something that hadn't quite stricken him before that moment, Maybe she doesn't /have/ something to go back to. That realization almost tore his heart out of his chest. He couldn't bear not having something to go back to. But he had had his family, and when they were gone he had his pack. The pack that had taught him everything. "Now you are going to be introduced to some of the pack." He threw his head in a gesture towards the others before giving her a reassuring smile. "Come closer to them, they don't bite." He looked back over at Siren's death stare, "Well... Most of them don't." he grumbled under his breath.

He was going to say their names and their ranks and then they were going to step forward, they should know the drill, he was pretty sure they had all gone through with something like this before. First he looked over to his beta, Nimble Prosperity. "This," he motioned for her to come forward, "This is my beta, Nimble Prosperity. She is in charge when I am not around." He figured that was the jist of what she did, he didn't want to bore Lyra with pointless stuff. "This is Okami, my lead raider. She leads raids, basically." If they wanted to, they could explain their ranks to her later, he didn't want to. "Here is Kali, my lead scout. You can probably guess what she does." He gave her a wink. He didn't have a delta as of that moment, he was still pending on the decision of who he was going to have be his delta.

"Hm... Now to figure out who to send you off with." He looked briefly over the small crowd that had gathered around them. Raider? Scout? Possible beta? Omega? He really had no idea. She reminds me a little of Okami. Okami. Raider. Perfect match. He looked back at her and a small smile crept onto his lips. He was going have Okami explain what her place was going to be and such, and then she could leave Lyra with Niall and he could show her around and stuff. Sounds like a plan. He said to Lyra, "Okami here is going to explain to you what you are going to be responsible for here from now on. You are going to be one of our raiders." He paused before saying one final thing to her, "I think you will do very well in that position." He then walked up to Okami, "You know what to do, and after you're done you can bring her to Niall and he'll show her around." He smiled, "She's going to feel right at home with you." He chuckled a little before turning and sitting over by himself, content with watching the rest of them now. I don't think you did too bad of a job. Now you just have to see where she will take herself.

Lyra
Lyra's careless, and somewhat sarcastic answer seems to unsettle Bruce. Glancing around, she notices that it is not just the alpha, but some of the other dogs, Naill and the golden dog sitting beside Okami especially. She is somewhat taken aback by this, and studies Bruce's face for a long moment while he composes himself. Was it something I said? After all their threats and bravado, did they really think I'd say no at this point? Her seemingly nonchalant acceptance stems from impatience, that part of her nature that has little patience for standing still, and a sad inner core of truth. One which even Lyra herself hasn't though through all the ramifications of. When her humans took her away from her home and her family, she had felt betrayed and alone. It was her choice to leave, and she has never looked back. Never regretted leaving a warm bed and and their love and affection. Even her siblings and parents are but a distant memory, as she has no idea how to return home to them. For a long time now she has been alone in her own company, never having met another dog she truly connected with the burden of survival keeping her occupied and mind off of the things she might have lost should she stop for a moment to mourn them. Yet Lyra won't let that happen. She pushes them out of her mind as though they never existed, and she lives is as if alone in the world.

Finally though, Bruce seems to recover and begins introducing Lyra to the pack. She steps forward with him, head still high yet unassuming she greets each one with a nod of her head and no further words as she tries to remember all of the names. The beta, another shepherd by the name of Nimble Prosperity is a dog comes as a bit of a surprise to Lyra, as she hadn't noticed her presence in the shadows beneath the bridge. The wolfish dog named Okami is next, followed by Kali, a border collie. Still somewhat unsettled by the lead raider, Lyra doesn't even look at her past the introduction, instead turning her eyes elsewhere. Imagine that... Scouts scout and raiders raid. How original... Her thoughts drift naturally to the sarcastic, and she uses the amusement they bring to push aside the uncertainty she feels at not really knowing what it means to 'scout' or 'raid'. No sense on fretting about it at this point, she will no doubt figure it out soon enough.

Lyra turns back to Bruce after the introductions, interested on what happens now. As he assigns her into Okami's care, Lyra's eyes go wide with surprise and no small amount of trepidation. "I don't think that..." She starts to object, but Bruce has already walked past her to speak quietly with the raider. Oh no... Please, not that! I... I don't know what to do... She whimpers quietly to herself, deciding it is best not to press her point. She acutely feels Bruce's absence when he walks away to be on his own. Until that moment, she hadn't realized just how comforting his strong presence was in an otherwise stressful situation. She now longs to go back to him, to ask him to reconsider, or something, anything just to avoid Okami. Stop it! Are you a wimp or what? You've faced worse and you know it. Lyra chides herself and in taking a deep breath she steps towards Okami and waits for her instructions. After all, she's going to have to learn to live with her sometime, might as well start now.
