THW's Diary Entry

I just found my very first Mystic today! She's absolutely beautiful! Violet and I were out looking for Ancients - and I had no clue I'd actually find a Mystic. We were starting in the south of Dragonclaw Island, making our way north, and then we'd split up - I was going search the west and she was going to search the east. It was about an hour and a half after we split up that I found the dwelling-place of this Mystic.
I was wandering around in an extremely rocky area, carefully clambering over boulder after boulder, when I saw a cave I had never noticed before. The caves in Dragonclaw Island are really more like tunnels - long, winding tunnels that branch out, twisting this way and that, like a maze. I decided to check it out - really, what would be a better place for an Ancient to hide out in?
"Good thing I brought my flashlight," I muttered to myself, getting my flashlight out of my backpack. It was dark in there, as you'd expect a nice, traditional cave to be. I had been walking for a few long minutes when I came to a fork in the tunnel. I decided it would be better to explore the cave later with Violet. If I kept going I could get lost. I turned around and was about to take a step back towards the entrance when I thought I heard a low growling noise coming from the left tunnel.
Curious, I decided to check it out quickly before leaving the cave. I walked along the ever-darkening tunnel for quite a few minutes, growing more and more doubtful of the noise I had heard. I was just thinking I should turn back and that the noise was just my imagination when I right smack into a massive, bulky form. I was knocked back by a small but sudden movement of a huge black limb. Breathing heavily and still on the ground, I raised the flashlight to shine in the beast's face. A pair of startled, gentle eyes blinked in the bright light. It made a growlish-chirpish noise and began walking to the cave's exit.
I got up to follow the creature but its long tail smacked me powerfully and I was thrown to the ground again. I got up, felt my face, found a small cut on my cheek, got up, and began following the animal again, this time from a good distance. I didn't know it was a Mystic yet, or even an Ancient at all! When viewing an animal's face with a flashlight in a dark cave, it is generally hard to tell what it is. As I followed the creature, the cave grew lighter and lighter. Eventually I realized it - er, she - was an Ancient. I wondered why she was so different from a normal Ancient for about five minutes, then realized with a great shock that she was a Mystic! I nearly collapsed with shock. Then, for some reason that is yet unknown, I started laughing hysterically. I suppose that is what one does when they find their first Mystic - or at least what I do.
When we got out of the cave I examined her completely. A massive thing, about the size of an elephant. Such a dark base color with such vivid, metallic markings. And those soft, gentle eyes. And those... Fins! I took her back to the gigantic building in which we keep all the Ancients. Later I told Violet about her, who, apparently, also found a Mystic! I also asked Violet about the fins. Violet was pretty shocked - she nearly choked on her dinner.
She explained that Ancients were once able to swim. In fact, at one point, in the very beginning of their existance, they were only able to dwell in the seas. She said that as people populated more and more of the world, Ancients had to spend more and more time on Dragonclaw Island - the only place that people weren't - because they didn't trust people yet. Due to so much time spent on land, they changed. They became land-dwellers, unable to swim. This Mystic, she guessed, was one of the last, maybe the very last, Ancients that were more closely related to their sea-dwelling ancestors. Though, since this Mystic was most like a normal Ancient, she couldn't swim, and therefore the fins would only be useful for showing off or attracting a mate (though Mystics can't breed, they can still have "mates", they just don't have any children).
This Mystic is simply amazing, and though I find it hard to let her go, with her beauty and gentleness, I know I have to let someone else keep her.
