he was abandoned.
the poor old boy, abandoned for something he never intended to have.
she was abandoned.
the poor old girl, abandoned for something she never intended to happen.
her mother was a witch.
a monster, something that had jumped out of the written works of a fairytale.
a deadly fairytale.
the boy.
oh, the boy.
precious little thing, yes?
he had the power to create new life.
he had the power to take it away.
all with the snap of his fingertips.
the eldritch swirl.
he breathed this power.
he is this power.
the witch yearned for this boy.
her daughter was nothing but a nuisance,
blessed with the voice of an angel.
of course the witch had also taken this away.
but she could never forget what was taken away from her.
the little girl's father was dead, all because of her mother.
on accident, of course. how could it not be?
though she didn't have any say in this.
she didn't have a voice.
the witch had snatched the boy in the dead of the night,
whisking him away into the safety of her home.
yeah. safety.
"i have a special task for you," she breathed, persuasion dripping off of her teeth.
"what's in it for me?"
"you will have a mother."
he considered this and asked what this task was.
"kill her."
the witch pointed to the damaged little girl, drawing something in the dirt.
the boy was torn.
a mother or a sister?
he was sure that if he didn't do this, the witch would kill him.
"why don't you do it," he asked her, summoning all of his bravery.
her lip curled into a smile.
"because if i did it, i could be in a lot of trouble with daddy."
she gestured to a small door,
something within screaming and pounding on the feeble plank of wood.
he sucked in a breath.
"don't you want a mommy?"
he knew she was no mother. he knew that he was nothing but a prize to her.
"what are you waiting for, the grass to grow? finish her off!"
the little girl raised her innocent head and smiled at her wicked mother.
"yes, mother? do you want something from me?"
anger ripped through the boy.
how could that witch want her own daughter killed,
such an angel? the girl loved her mother, but she only wanted her dead!
he look at the witch,
fury flickering in his eyes.
"no," he growled at her. "no."
and so the witch had fallen, her evil not exposed to the world anymore.
and so the girl had been saved by the boy.
