I also want to strike up conversations with strangers, but I never really feel like messaging them, because I'm afraid I'll annoy them.

Not to mention the fact that there's the chance they'll have forgotten who you are.

draw/write/make graphics of more fandom stuff

homestuck is a good choice, and you ship some of them it will be even better
if you aren't into that
Teen wolf. If you draw/write Stiles/Derek everyone will love you
Avengers is always popular. Tony/Loki, Loki/Thor, Tony steve, Natasha/Clint, Clint/Phil, Tony/Bruce, or pretty much whatever pairing you ever want
Mass Effect and Dragon Age are good fandoms if you like video games, and pretty much every pairing you want is canon in someone's playthrough.

Also if its gay, people will love it
