Alex grinned and opened the door. On the counter by the register, leaned an elderly woman with a beehive hair style. She walked up and hugged Alex, who released Grace to hug the woman back. "Hey there, Alexander," the woman said, ruffling Alex's hair. "Who's this young lady?" Alex laughed and pushed her hand away. "Granmaw Sallie, this is my friend Grace. Grace, this is my Granmaw." He grinned and pulled Grace to a seat. "Gran, get me a burger and some fries please. Grace? What do you want?"

Grace smiled at his gran and followed him to a table, sitting down opposite him. "Um… could I have the same, please?" She asked, untying her hair from the high ponytail and letting it spill around her shoulders in a coal-black wave.

Sallie grinned. "Two cows on a bun and pa'taters comin' up!" She darted off to make them.

Alex grinned at her. "Gotta love Gran."

Grace rolled her eyes and nodded, smiling back and dumping her bag on the floor.

Alex smiled as Sallie brought back two plates with burgers and fries on them. "Here ya go, youngins," Sallie said with a laugh. "Ya'll want anything to drink?" Alex nodded. "Dr. Pepper, please." Sallie nodded once then looked at Grace. "What about you, Grace? Anything for you?"

"Um, actually I'm good, thanks." Grace replied as she looked up, smiling at her and then looking down at the food. "Man, this looks good." She laughed lightly, brushing her hair over one shoulder.

Sallie nodded. "Okay, darlin'," the waitress drawled. She turned and left. She came back several minutes later with Alex's drink, then left again. Alex smiled at Grace. "It really IS good. Gran makes the best burgers in all of the city." He took a bit of the burger and let out a sound of satisfaction.
