Jack glared at Emerald, frowning slightly. "Why?" he asked "Why should I not care about taking someone's life away, when they had so long to live? And besides, most of those soldiers and knights are innocent people, doing things under order of the king. I wouldn't mind killing him, though" he said with a mean frown, gritting his teeth "But I will kill if my life depends on it. I will not die being a fool " he then turned away, breathing deeply and trying to calm down.

Frank watched as Arowin appeared and talked to the lad. As she did so he leant down to Emerald "I don't trust him" he whispered under his breath, a slight frown on his face as he readjusted his seat as Diad shuffled sideways, bit juingling in his mouth as he did so.
Frank stared at the boy after his outburst "Well, you say that, but I would like to see you prove it" he answered sharply, glaring at him with piercing blue eyes.

"Why don't you prove it then?!" Jack said, loosing his temper. He glared at the man, narrowing his eyes "I can kill if it is to save myself. That is all you have to know. And if I can't, then I will be dead, which is definetly no problem for you" he said, regaining his usual calmness "Only because I am from a farm, do you really think I don't know how to fight?" he raised an eyebrow, and then turned to Arrowing, noticing something.
"How did you know my name?" he asked "I don't recall having told you my name, nor any others speaking of it either"

Emerald glanced over at Arrowin and frowned just a little deeper. She could tell she was remembering Casper too. "I know you don't. Just give him a chance." she whispered back to Frank. "Arrowin and I will teach him, he'll learn soon enough, even if I have to beat it into him." Her blood was boiling with anger and grief as Jack and Frank started to fight with each other. She held up a hand for silence and then spoke. "If they work for the king, they're not innocent. We're not in war time, the king isn't drafting, they have an option to join. They do it of their own free will, Jack, They're not innocent. They know what they're signing up for. And so should you. Being with the Hood isn't all the fun and games the folk songs make it out to be. We face death at least once a week, we kill more people then we can remember and we don't blink an eye." She took a deep breath and dropped her gaze to Envy's mane, her voice softening. "We lost one a long time ago because he couldn't handle all of it. He was just a farmer's boy." Her gaze returned to Jack. "As are you. I'm not doubting your ability to fight, nor your courage. But if you can't handle killing someone or looking death in the eye, then you should leave now because I refuse to have another death weighing down my shoulders."

Arowin laughed. 'Your a fool boy if you think I wouldn't know your name. I know every family in the surrounding villagers because The Hood keeps them alive. I know how your family died and I knew them too." she said with a sharp edge to her voice. "My own brother was a knight, a tyrant who fought day and night to kill me and my family!" she said gesturing to Frank and Emerald. "He killed many families just like her own, just like every other knight that signs up to have their way with the village, MY VILLAGE!" she said shouting the last two words before giving a cold laugh. "Wake up child!" she said turned her horse to move closer to Emerald and Frank.

Jack listened silently, frowning at Emerald's words. He was about to ask how their friend had died, but shook his head. "I am sorry for your loss. But I have no other choice. If I do not kill, I will die, and that is enough for me" he nodded and then turned to Arowin, raising an eyebrow at her arrogant words "Child?" he muttered "Your village? You sound like the king. That is the problem, everyone longs for power and ruling other people, being able to claim a place as his or hers. If you want the village, go and marry him" Jack said, narrowing his eyes and not liking her at all as he tapped Geal's sides lightly as she moved to a steady walk.

Emerald just nodded when Jack apologized. It wasn't his fault, yet he still had the manners to offer condolences anyway. That was nice of him. She was able to push away all thoughts of Casper, but not the hollow guilty feeling it left behind. Her head snapped up when Jack mentioned the king, and growled when he compared him to Arrowin. "She's nothing like the king." she snapped. "Watch your tongue, boy. You don't talk down to Arrowin like that, got it?" She was just starting to like Jack, and then he had to go and talk like that to Arrowin. Now she was much conflicted. Which side of Jack was the side they would see more often?

Jack turned around, annoyed "Well then she can't claim the village as hers, can she?" he snapped. His voice then softened as he looked down at Geal's mane, stroking the black hairs softly "I know we have all lost our lives,our friends and our families and that is why we are here, and I understand that. But there is no need to be aggressive, especially between us. If you wish so, I will go and leave you to your buisness, but I will not stay here wasting my morning with stupid discussions" he rubbed his forehead tiredly, slightly frustrated by these people.

Emerald sighed. "We all come from separate villages, Jack. She was only saying 'my village' so that we didn't get it mixed up with the other ones." she explained, shaking her head. She knew Jack was right, it was pointless to argue, but she couldn't help it. Emerald loved to argue and hated to back down, but she knew she had to try and behave herself. "You're right." she said finally. "Just follow us back to the hideout and we can have something to eat. Maybe that'll help settle us all down."
