"The Discovery of the Rune in the Dark"

When Benathorn and her team offered me a research grant to search for Runes, I was more than slightly skeptical. I am an enthusiastic traveller, but not a very good one. Nonetheless, I was not about to pass up on my dream, so I took it gladly.

Three weeks later, I had 'discovered' nothing but Spark Runes and Rune-shaped rocks, and as I scaled a mountain, was feeling more than a little bit sorry for myself. My guide had disappeared ahead of me, and I was so focused on catching up that I didn't look where I was putting my feet. The ground was sucked out from under me, and I took quite a tumble. I must have knocked my head, for when I awoke, it was dark and I was terribly confused. I began to wander, my hands on the rocky cavern walls, hoping that I would find my way out. An eternity later, I was no closer to escaping, and was quite convinced that I would die in that blasted cave, alone and without discovering anything.

Just when I was conceding defeat, I saw a light ahead of me. My eyes brightened. My step quickened. I burst into another chamber, only to come face to face with the strangest-looking little creatures I had ever seen. It took a moment for me to identify them as runes at all, so strangely-shaped were they. They stared at me in clear surprise, waving their odd, flexible protrusions at me. One by one, they hopped onto my body, and began to snuggle up to my warmth, completely devoid of fear.

I didn't complain. I'd discovered my Runes.

Cave and Crevice runes, as their name suggests, inhabit areas of total darkness, not usually accessed by any other creature. They are omnivorous, feeding on fungus and plants, but they love insects when they can catch them. The glow from their antennae attracts small creatures, but seems to serve no other purpose, for Cave Runes are completely blind, communicating and navigating via echolocation, which is amplified to an extreme level by their antennae. These little runes hate the daylight, for it burns their bleached skin, but they navigate superbly by night. They have no fear of humans (or of anything, in fact, for they have no natural predators) and make excellent Watch Runes and companions.

Judging ends on the 28th of June, at 6:00 CS time!

Owner Name:
Shadow_paws
Name:
Keyoshii
Gender:
Male
Personality:
Strong, brave, cocky, obnoxious, cheeky.
How you found this Rune:
I had always been interested in crystals, and ventured into the caves nearby. With my trusty pick axe and basket, I would spend hours tapping into a wall, flicking out the jewels, which glittered like miniature suns in the warm glow of the lantern, which winked and sparked in the cavern. Each day, I would venture further into the cavern, finding more and more treasure lurking in the ancient walls. My parents begged me not to, knowing the danger, and that my luck would run out. Sure enough, it did.
I could feel the vibrations, the darkness surrounding me, i knew it was too late.
There was a flash of light, like none i had ever seen, and i thought my time had come.
I saw him there, glowing and growling fiercely, batting away the tumbling rocks.
Soon, all there was was dirt and fragments littering the floor.
I cradled the strong little thing, which purred and poked me with its claw tentatively.
I knew this little baby was worth more than any gem, jewel or precious stone.
Why do you wish to have him/her:
He is just beautiful and unique, I have not seen a rune quite like it, or anything like it. It reminds me of a description of a creature out of an amazing book, the Spackle from The Knife Of Never Letting Go. I admire its amazingness and the talent of the artist, and I would love to honour it by owning it and cherishing it with her.
What will you do with him/her:
Rp with it, keep it on a character thread and perhaps in my signature.
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
Yes, but it would have to be with the right one, with the qualities I'm looking for to create something even more unique and crazy like me :D

Owner Name:
"Ah dear me... Forgive me for forgetting. My name is Shiko Hayashi, at your service."
Name:
"I believe with all due respect, his name is Cassiel."
Gender:
" Male, of course. "
Personality:
"Well, I am not much of a good judge so I cannot say this with a sure attitude. I believe, that when I first met him, he was rather a silent gentleman. Pleasing to the eye, and yet completely tongue tied, he simply watched on with a politeness that astounded me. I had never met such a man so bound to, well, politeness as him. It was quite a refreshing delight. Of course, when he did speak, he was quiet even then. A little hard to hear, for one such as myself. He was quite intelligent though! I swear, he was able to deduce everything about me, up to what I did yesterday and what I ate. It was marvelous! On the other hand, my younger sister got quite a shock when he deduced that she was being cheated by her current fiancee, and he received a good smack for that one. I don't blame the poor dear, but turns out he was right. She has yet to apologize, I believe. All in all, as dangerous as his intelligence may be, he was very handy with using it. I have no fear with putting my life in his hands, although I am a bit wary. He seemed to enjoy the rather risky side of things. "
How you found this Rune:
"Well, it was during one of my many travels, wasn't it? As a writer, I frequently travel away from my home in London to various places about. This travel happened to be due to the fact that I had a nasty bought of writer's block, and my book was due in a matter of weeks. I had to find inspiration, and I had to find it fast. So, without another thought, I packed my duffel bag and took the first train out of London by midday. It was a rather boring, if pleasingly relaxing trip. No matter how many times I put pen to paper though, my hand refused to write. I knew that I would be in trouble if I did not manage to find some sort of inspiration on this trip. Upon arriving in Budapest, I found myself wandering the large market that resided near the Central train station. A fabulous market at that, I quickly got lost. Not speaking a lick of Hungarian, I wandered the streets aimlessly, hoping to find a way back to the hotel I was currently staying at. As my wanderings began to grow longer, and the day shorter, I realized that I was at an impasse. I had arrived into a small clearing, a cobbled path beneath my feet. In the center of the clearing stood a large, marble statue of a rather strange looking creature. It had the body of a wolf, but the wings of an angel. I swore it's eyes followed me as I meandered around it. Realizing that I would not find the hotel before the sun vanished over the horizon, I slumped against the statue's side, in despair for my situation. It was then that something happened I did not expect. The statue moved! Shifting behind me, a gap from beneath me appeared and I tumbled down into a narrow shaft beneath the statue. It was quite a fall too! Bruised my ribs quite good to be honest. Never mind that though. I fell down into this tunnel, pitch black and without a sound. Startled, it took me a few minutes before I managed to grasp my bearings (and belongings for that matter). Once I was able to get a good idea of where I was, I started searching for a way out. Believe me, I'm a curious person. I had read enough books to know though that plenty could be hiding in that darkness, just waiting to sink it's teeth into my skin. Unfortunately, it was only a one way ticket, and it certainly wasn't up. So, resigned to my fate, I began to follow the path the tunnel had been built on. Using the wall as a guide, I struggled through the darkness, my senses on alert. It was probably an hour or so later, when I began to notice a change in the light. It was getting brighter! Excited now, I raced ahead, no longer needed the sticky wall. As I went deeper and deeper in though, I began to notice something else as well. The light source wasn't normal. No, instead it was an iridescent blue, coming from the floor. As I stopped to study a patch of the light, I realized with both surprise and dismay, that it was a rare form of phosphorus. Slumping against the wall, I worried over the fact that I was no nearer the surface than I was before. It was then that something brushed my ankle. Now, I won't lie and say I didn't yelp a bit. It certainly startled me and at that point, I began to grow frightened. All those stories came back to me in a rush, and my mind screamed for me to run. So naturally, I began to run. Of course, I no longer knew which direction I had come from, so I was unaware that I was traveling deeper into the tunnel and not back towards the entrance. I could hear the sound of the unknown thing following me and with each breath, I felt my heart speeding up. The phosphorus light grew brighter and brighter as I ran and suddenly, something barrel rolled into my back, sending me tumbling to the floor. Freezing, I waited for my death. I was surprised then, of course, when something sniffed my ear and licked it. Confusion crawling onto me, I opened my eyes and turned my head to see better. It was a creature! No bigger than a large, overfed rabbit, it blinked at me with quite obviously sightless eyes! I felt my breath leaving my lungs (once again I remind you) as I gazed at him. He was quite calm, if intensely curious. I turned over and he hopped off, snorting in indignation. Obviously, he had not been done inspecting my backside. I chuckled despite myself. It was such a comical, and yet marvelous sight. His pure white fur was splashed with green, blue, and gold. Dyed by the light that now heavily emitted from the floor.
'What are you?' I wondered out loud. The creature flapped his wings, twitched his muzzle, and resumed sniffing me, as curious as can be. I smiled, feeling a growing fondness settle over me. And to think I had been running from him only moments before! Then, as I watched him, my current situation came back to me and I groaned.
How would I get out?
As if sensing my growing distress, the curious creature stretched out and sniffed my cheek, startling me. 'Do you per chance know the way out?' I asked, believing that my answer would go, unfortunately, unanswered. So you can imagine my surprise when the small creature snorted and nodded, letting out a faint chirp of amusement as I jumped to my feet. 'Can you lead me there?' I asked, feeling dimly foolish as I stared down at the creature. It reminded me of the dog Lassie. Lead me home Lassie! I felt like saying, just for amusement. Refraining myself though, I followed after the creature as it began to glide further into the tunnel, it's body faintly glowing within the phosphorus dim darkness. AS I followed it, I couldn't help studying it. The spokes along it's body glowed faintly, like a dim beacon that was slowly dying. As I stared at him, for that was surely what it could, I couldn't help feeling a sadness growing within me. For I knew that when I left this dark tunnel, he would not be able to follow me. His skin from the looks of it was far too fragile for the harsh light that would beat upon it. He would burn to a crisp. As my melancholy grew, and the phosphorous lights faded to be replaced with a more natural light that was steadily growing, I looked up to find a mouth gaping at the end of the tunnel. The creature stopped, keeping to the darkest part of the cave. I glanced at it and frowned. 'I wish I could take you with me...' I said quietly, crouching down to pet him tenderly on the head. He purred, a harsh rasping sound that resembled a cat, and chirped. Sighing, I stood up and looked towards the exit.
Walking at a swift pace now, I walked out and into the dim lights of the city. It was dawn. 'Dear Lord! A whole day!' I exclaimed. Taking one last look at the small, tunnel opening hidden within the alley, I raced through the barren streets of Hungary, making my way back to the hotel. Which was surprisingly close.
The next day, as I boarded the large train, I felt something shift within my messenger bag. Startled, I dropped it into my booth, staring down at it. 'No...' I breathed, watching as two pale, sightless eyes gleamed at me from within the darkness of my bag. A chirp answered my thoughts. Quickly closing the blinds to the window and booth, encasing the compartment in darkness, I carefully maneuvered the creature out of my bag. It chirped and butted it's head against my forehead, a grin seeming to appear on it's face, mirroring my own. 'You sly fox...' I said, laughing out loud. I couldn't believe it. The creature had followed me, sneaking into my messenger bag just as I left the safety of the tunnel and staying in it the whole time. Laughing, I set him down and stared at him. He cocked his head, opening his beak in contentment. 'Well, I can't call you creature for the rest of the ride, hmm? What about Muriel? My grandfather's name was-' A harsh, grating chirp filled my ears and I winced, smiling sheepishly. 'Alright. Not Muriel. What about.... Cassiel..?' I said slowly, thinking of my book character. Cassiel considered it for a moment, then chirped happily, curling into a ball and staring up at me happily. I sighed, sitting back and staring at the roof of the compartment. 'Cassiel... I believe I've found my inspiration.' I chuckled, smiling softly at Cassiel.
That was how I came upon, I believe. Now, there was certainly more to it, but I fear my mind is exhausted at the time. Maybe I can share the rest with you over a cup of hot tea at my house sometime."

Why do you wish to have him/her:
"Well, his colors of course! You would think he's a neon based design, but no! In reality, his blue tones and green hues blend spectacularly with the creamish white of his base color! I am infinity inspired whenever I gaze into those blind, bright eyes. It is very hard not to love such a creature as this. Not only that, but I have never stumbled upon one such as himself. I would dearly love to be his owner, and his caretaker. I am sure he prove to be quite the therapy companion, as I myself have lived alone for a very long time."
What will you do with him/her:
"Well, role playing with this fine lad sounds quite entertaining. I have no doubt it would prove endlessly fun. I also plan on other things though. I would use him as an inspiration for my books, and my drawings. He would be a frequent study. He would retain a room of his own though, and a perch as well. Maybe even a shelf of braille books, should he be interested in knowledge, such as myself. "
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
"To be able to have a family is a tempting idea. I believe I shall say yes, I would like to breed him in the possible future."
Other:
"I believe that, when I first encountered him, I sketched down a few concept sketches of him. I would love to show them to you, as well as the poem that we thought up of together on the train ride home. "

Wicked and Quicken
The hour make haste
For with empty eyes
And feathered ties
I know time must waste

So listen to me
And listen close
The hour is nigh tonight
I shall repeat
ad repeat again
Until my night is light

With a heart of silver
And a mind of snakes
My tongue is quick and sharp
But don't be folled
By this gypsy's rule
I truly love to taste

So bable such nonsense
And hear not a word
But I tell you fool
That you are like a bird
For my heart is true
My mind is set
And I shall not give up you

Re: Cave and Crevice Rune

Postby maluruloki » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:37 am

Owner Name:
maluruloki
Name:
Lascaux (after the site of famous cave paintings)
Gender:
Male
Personality:
As Verdana noted in her original description of her encounter with this species of Rune, Lascaux has no fear. Bless his little Rune heart, he is afraid of NOTHING. Well, at the moment. The more he comes to realize that the world in which he exists expands FAR beyond his cave and the inside of a backpack, he is beginning to quail a little on the inside.
This inexperience combined with his natural naivety gives him a personality that's very easy to get along with. He has no real idea of what an insult is or how to respond to anger other than with sweet confusion, so no one can stay mad at him for long. He does understand the idea of a hierarchy and has a natural sense for figuring out who's boss; whoever is boss gets to command a Rune who has never considered disobeying.
If there was one thing that can make Lascaux a real pain in the glowing tail to handle, it's how finicky he is about his food. When you grow up in a cave with a limited supply of fungus, plants and crevice-dwelling insects, you have your favorites. When they don't exist outside the cave, Lascaux can only handle trying so many new types of food before he throws his own version of a temper tantrum and shuts down. He closes those big, luminescent eyes, curls into a ball, and the natural aura of light emitted from his flexible protrusions dims significantly.

How you found this Rune:
I came across Lascaux when I was exploring a fairly well-known cave in an attempt to find any archaic artifacts lying around. I knew that prehistoric people had inhabited the area and if I found another arrowhead, the local museum would pay generously to obtain it for their collection. The cave was mapped out save for one tunnel that had always been flooded out and as I neared that area, I was surprised to see that the water level was low enough for an adult to actually stoop down and enter it! I couldn't pass up the opportunity and though I spent some minutes standing there, weighing my own personal safety verses the chance to see what lay beyond it, I did decide to go in. My headlamp reflected off the stagnant water as I sloshed through it, careful not to bash my head on the low-hanging tunnel ceiling. The tunnel took a sharp right and curved back around before opening up into a medium-sized room. It wasn't the Rune that caught my eye first. It was the small pile of fully-intact pottery all a-jumble on a small rise off to one side of the cavern. Stumbling over to it, I could only gasp and grin from ear-to-ear. Sure, the museum would have to clean off the rust-colored fungus that was growing on it and hopefully the growth wouldn't have damaged the artifacts, but this would definitely get my rent paid for the next three months! It was when I went to carefully bag the pottery that Lascaux showed up. I later realized that I was disturbing his favorite patch of food-fungus, but that was much later. I thought I was being menaced by something from beyond the grave, as he flopped down from the ceiling, landing ungracefully, before letting out a gurgling hiss. The sound was something between a large snake and someone gargling mouthwash; I won't deny that the hairs on my neck stood on end. After I slowly backed away and the adrenaline in my system leveled out, I did realize that he was just a Rune and not some zombie creature out to eat my flesh. I also realized my mistake when he hopped over and began daintily picking the fungus off the pottery. I folded my arms, watching him carefully clean it off, and came to the conclusion that if I just let him finish, maybe I could sneak in again and take the pottery pre-cleaned. A fair exchange, no? I also took the time to write down some notes regarding Lascaux himself. What an odd Rune. Obviously cave-dwelling and very pale. Seems to mind the direct light of my headlamp, I noted, especially after he grumbled at me when the beam passed over him. I was able to experience his natural luminescence after my headlamp briefly short-circuited, drowning us both in pitch black. Lascaux lit up the room like a firefly. I couldn't help but sneak closer and kneel down beside him. He was so involved in feeding that it was only when I touched one of his barbels that he looked up. I froze and winced as he sniffed at my finger. I don't think I was more surprised in this whole experience than when he purred and rubbed on it, much like a cat. It seemed like he couldn't get enough of the feel of my skin and climbed into my lap as if he belonged there. His skin was cool and smooth, like a salamander or frog, and I tentatively touched it again. Lascaux didn't seem to mind. The more I touched, the more he purred, until this freaky Rune was oozing all over my thighs like melted butter. I set my backpack to one side and quickly bagged the pieces of pottery while he was apparently drowning in Rune-ish delight. When I turned back to put the pottery into my pack, I found him inside instead, rooting around with avid curiosity. My laugh was something he had never heard and while he flinched and stared at first, he eventually decided to mimic me throatily. I laughed and he echoed the noise, endearing him to me even more.
Yes, I did decide to take him home and while I have regretted it some days (especially days...), Lascaux has made my nights much more interesting. And sleepless. He acts as a nightlight when necessary (and when not necessary...) and I finally found a fungus that he will eat with the least amount of grouchy behavior. Fireflies though. Oh man. I can't keep him away from fireflies. You know what the best part was about finding Lascaux though? There were also undisturbed cave paintings within that room and now, I don't have to worry about rent. I can write my papers at night and enjoy his alien-like presence in comfort.
Well, okay, the cave paintings weren't the best part. The best part was finding Lascaux himself, because he became my non-judgmental friend. Oh, and the telepathy was pretty cool too.

Why do you wish to have him/her:
He makes me wonder about the intricacies of owning such a Rune. I got to thinking: "How would you travel with this Rune? What would you feed it? How would others (including other Runes) react to it?" Etc, etc, etc.
What will you do with him/her:
I would like to have him in the RP, but I'm still figuring out how to integrate him.
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
Only if the children will be able to exist in sunlight. I wouldn't want to pass on the sensitive skin gene. X) (NERD MOMENT!!!!)
Other:
Such an intriguing Rune, Verdana! Well done! If I don't win him, that's fine. :) Oh, and I'd like for him to be the size of a crow, not very big. That makes sense to me, as cave-dwelling creatures are normally small.
And added some art - couldn't resist. If I don't win, the person can have it.

How you found this Rune:
Amy whined to her mom "Do I have to go... I don't want to go mountain climbing all by myself" Her accent was obvious scot. She never got rid of it. Her mom tapped her on the head "No luv. You have to though. Good to get fresh air for yourself. Now go on, your pap is waiting in the car to take you" Amy huffed and stomped out of the kitchen, slamming the door on the way out with a little scream of anger. She slammed into the car and started to sulk. Her dad then said "Cheer up" She glared at him

Soon Amy was climbing. "This isnt so bad" she sad. But suddenly, there was a snap. Her rope. It was breaking. Snap snap. She screamed as she fell, soon she hit a rock. She stopped falling. A sharp pain in her shoulder "Ow" She screamed. Her shoulder was broken. She got up. "Hello" she yelled into the cave. She sighed, it was the only thing she had till she figured out how to get down.

A squeak. Amy got up startled. Something next to her, was glowing. It wasn't that far away, but enough to where she couldn't see it proper. She went to it. But it hopped away. She followed until she saw a light. It couldn't have been dawn already. She walked closer and gasped. It wasn't. It was a bunch of runes. They told her she had been asleep for a week. Comatized. She gasped. She was supposed to be gone for a day. She asked them "Will you help me get down" thousands of heads nodded and they. Picked her up. Thousands under her. They flighted her down the mountain and set her down gentilly. They all said good bye and flew to their cave. Only one stayed. Owner Name: running red panda
(Your Username goes here)
Name: Julie
(Dragon's Name goes here)
Gender: Girl
(Male or Female?)
Personality: She is very shy, but when you get to meet her, she lights up the room! She doesn't have many friends, but if she wasn't so shy, the whole world would love her!
(What is the dragon's personality like?)
How you found this Rune: I was in a cave and she came and showed herself.(the whole story will be in other. Is that O.K?
(Some sort of story is mandatory for this Rune; length doesn't matter)
Why do you wish to have him/her: She has this beautiful, mysterious look. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
(State what drew you to the dragon or why you would want it.)
What will you do with him/her: I will RP it and put it in my siggy~
(Do you plan to RP with this dragon? If not, what else do you want to do with it?)
Would you like to breed him/her in the future: YES YES YES YES!!!!! (if I get her) She is BEAUTIFUL! so I can't wait to see her offspring!
(This is just general info for me to use. State if you would like to breed it later on or not)
Other: One day I went rock climbing. The weather channel was calling for 25 Degrees( It was in a cold place) and sunny. I was so exited! This would be the first time I went rock climbing alone. I right after I started climbing, it started getting really cloudy. "that's odd." I said. It was supposed to be sunny. After that, I didn't think anything about it. When I got about half way up the mountain, it started to snow. "so much for sunny" I thought and kept on climbing. I had brought a pack of food with me so when I got hungry, I could rest on a ledge or cave and eat. I found a cave and sat down in there. Before I went in, I noticed it was snowing a little harder. I started to worry for a little bit, but then I didn't worry about it. I just got into the cave to get my stuff out, when an avalanche started. It blocked the entrance to where I couldn't get out. I started to panic. "what am I going to do? I'm trapped inside of a cave, 20,000 feet off the ground!" I said running around the cave."HELP! HELP!" i screamed. "it's no use. There isn't anyone here. And if there were people here, they couldn't hear me." I started to unpack my bag to see what I had so I could figure out how to ration it. When I was about to put it back up, I saw a pair of eyes deeper in the cave. I started backing towards the entrance. I knew I couldn't escape, but when your in a situation like this, you listen to your instinct, not common sense. The eyes came closer. "get away from me! I don't want to die yet!" I screamed. I grabbed the flashlight that I had and shined it in the direction of the eyes. it was a little rune! I was afraid of a rune! I let her come to me. She went towards the entrance, walked back a bit, and rammed the snow so hard, I'm not sure a wrecking ball could do that! All of the snow crumbled away. The snow had softened and i was able to make it back down the mountain. The little rune had followed me down. She had saved my life! A little rune dragon had saved me! I looked down at rune. I will owe my life to this rune forever.
(Writing a small story or showing artwork may give you a better chance!)

Owner Name:
Azure23
Name:
GoldenGlow
Gender:
Male
Personality:
Goldenglow is no different than any other Cave Rune when it comes to bravery. He will rush into danger, a little recklessly, and really doesn’t think about it unless he is in some serious trouble. By then, I have to rush in and rescue the little ball of energy. Even then, he typically doesn't realize how much danger he could have possibly put himself in. He seems to not know, or he may not really care, if things are bigger then he is. I do not know if it is because he is blind, or because he came from the cave where there are not natural predators. Personally, I think it is just because he rather enjoys pushing his luck and getting into trouble.

I looked up from my writings and watched as Goldenglow sauntered around the room. He was exploring every inch, every nook and cranny of this little room. He didn't seemed to bothered that he couldn't see. He used his glowing antennae as buffer against anything that he would run into. I couldn’t help but grin at the sight. However, I did grow a little worried when he approached my grumpy, orange tabby.

Goldenglow, however, seemed to have little concern. He leaned forward, sniffing, his antennae flicking across the cat’s fur. The tabby started to fluff up, her eyes narrowing to slits with anger. She raised her paw, claws sliding out.

I scooped up Goldenglow, removing him from harm. The cat hissed in frustration before padding out of the room with her nose in the air. Evidentially, not everyone was warming up the little Rune like I was. I sat Goldenglow gently on the bed and sat back at my desk and began writing again.

Goldenglow is a bit of an attention hog. He loves to be in the spotlight, whether good or bad. Due to his recklessness, he typically gets the bad spotlight. He is very affectionate and loves nothing more than to cuddle in your lap and have his smooth, skin rubbed. If there is not affection to be given, he will go searching for it, and If he feels that he is being ignored, he will go looking for trouble. More often than not it‘s-

I was interrupted when a flash of white landed heavily on my journal. Goldenglow’s sightless aqua eyes bore into mine and he waved his antennae dramatically. A small gurgling, hiss emitted from his slightly parted maw. Despite being slightly exasperated, I couldn’t help but laugh at his antics. He always seemed to make me smile, despite distracting me from important research.

I scooped him up and placed him across my lap. He snuffled and curled up, before looking up at me adoringly. I grinned and went back to writing

In all, Goldenglow is a very sweet and kind Rune. He can get into trouble a little easily, and his bravery can be a bit of a problem, but he has me here to help him out. He is an amazing listener, and he will stare at you with those intense eyes with a look that seems to show that he understands everything you are saying. He definately seems to know when he is being talked about.

Goldenglow is an amazing friend, a wonderful source for entertainment and distraction, and the best nightlight you could ever possibly have.

How you found this Rune:
I found GoldenGlow by sheer accident. I was running. My breath coming out in ragged pants and sweat beading on my brow. My heart roared in my ears and for a few moments I cursed my backpack that thudded noisely against my back and weighed me down, but I did not have time to shed it. The boys that were chasing me were quickly catching up. Their cries of triumph sounded like hunting dog baying. It had the same effect, my blood turned to ice with terror. They were gaining fast, way to fast. I forced my burning legs to their limits, my heart felt as if it would burst. I glanced back to see if my extra spurt of speed had any effect. That's when my world turned upside down.

For a few moments it felt I was in a cartoon. My feet moved in open space before gravity set in and I started to plummet into the deepest, darkest hole I have ever seen. A short, high scream was wrentched from my lungs before the rushing wind swept the breath from my body. I hit the ground with a resounding thud and slipped into unconciousness.

When I woke, it was completely dark. Immediately my heart began to hammer in my chest. Was I blind? As my eyes adjusted, I realize I wasn't. It was just incredibly dark. Slowly I sat up, then moved to my feet. Nothing was broken, I sighed in relief for that, but where was I? How was I going to get out of this cave? A whimper built in my throat and I sighed softly. Suddenly, something caught my eye. A...glow? Way down here? Was it a person? A search party? I called a tentative hello, but my question bounced around the cave and my echo was my only response.

The glow, however, grew close. A small, growl-like hiss suddenly sounded and I panicked. I started to bolt, away from the light and hissing, however I still could not see well infront of me. I crashed painfully into a rock wall and fell straight on my bottom. My hands flew to my face and tears of frustration, pain, and fear squeezed out of my eyes. I was so intent in wallowing in my self-pity I completely forgot about the glowing creature. Until it was right next to me.

It was a Rune Dragon. However, it was an odd one. It's bright aqua green eyes seemed to stare right through me and I immediately new it was blind. It's mouth was wide open and small hisses were squeaked out. It reminded me of bats. It's bright white skin was slick with mucus and his glowing antennae waved wildly, casting flickering shadows on the cave walls. It did not seemed bothered by my presence and he even slowly stepped close. He pressed his tiny body against mine and I tentatively reached a hand down and touched his back, right in between his wings. He arched in pleasure, gurggling noise escaping from his throat.

It wasn't until much later I realized that Goldenglow, the little slimy, rune dragon, had saved my life. If I would have ran the other way, I would have fell right into an even deeper pit. I found this out while I was trying to escape the cave. While I was discovering an exit, I noticed he kept following me. I tried to shoo him off, telling him he had a family and home to go back to but he kept following me. Even as I finally neared light, he perched on my shoulder and crawled into my backpack for protection. I obviously was not getting rid of the little creature anytime soon. Truthfully, I did not mind.

Goldenglow now makes his home with me, in my dark, cool room. He is my best friend, sometimes my only friend. He listens to me when I talk about my day, either good or bad, and when he looks at me with his brilliant, sightless eyes, I sometimes believes he understands. Who knows? Maybe he does. He makes a wonderful nightlight, and keeps me company when I stay up late. I have learned to tolerate his sliminess, and the strange squeaks he makes when he sleeps. I even take him to the cave so he can play in his old haunts. Atleast he has gotten me over my fear of darkness and claustrophobia.

Why do you wish to have him/her:
I have been silently stalking these brilliant dragons for a while now, waiting for the perfect one to try for. When I saw this one, I knew I couldn't let him go without atleast trying. I love how gorgeous he is. He has all of my favorite colors wrapped into one eye catching package. The glow just makes him even more adorable. :3 He is so brilliant, and I would love to make him my first Rune Dragon.

*Edit: I would like to say, I have completely fallen in love with this Rune. The more I developed his personality and wrote about how my character met him, I fell more and more in love. He is so gorgeous and even if I am unfortunate to have him, I am still incredibly happy to have had the chance to write about him. He was fun and interesting! Thank you for giving me the chance for applying for this amazing, beautiful Rune. :3

What will you do with him/her:
I really do not RP anymore. I got tired of them dieing so quickly. However, I will write stories about him! I will also use him as inspiration for art or doodles. They may not be the best in the world, but he will be much loved.
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
I may. It just depends if anyone is interested or I ever adopt a suitable mate. :3
Other:
Here is a little sketch. Just GoldenGlow asleep on a book. :3

Here is another little drawing, this time in colore. I used a mouse so It is pretty awful but I am a little proud. :3

Here is my last little doodle before the judging. My layers messed up while I was saving the other night so It really messed it up. I worked with what I got but I did not get to make it as good as I wanted. Oh well, It is still pretty good. :3
