I asked myself the same thing. I read somewhere through Odin...
in "Thor" Loki found a way to bring the Frostgiants to Asgard without the Bifrost, maybe there gives other ways?... we have to wait for Thor 2 ^^

the explanation in Avengers was something to do with Dark energy and Odin... I wasn't really paying attention... too busy watching Loki
