Sandyfern looked at her kits with amusement and twitched her tail. "Hawkkit, you can't call a kit a wimp just because they mew. Every kit mews for their mother." Greystar looked at Sandyfern's kits. Butterkit wriggled in her fathers jaws, Cloudkit was silent.

Rosepetal looked at Pondweed and saw that he had caught a squirrel. She flickered her tail before she got to camp.

[walk.]

Hawkkit looked proudly up at Sandyfern and mewed loudly, "Well, I don't!" Shimmerfur lay down in the soft moss nest and gently took Butterkit from her father's jaws. She nestled her into her fur and did the same with Shiverkit and Cloudkit

Pondweed padded proudly into camp and all the apprentices gawked and began whispering to themselves. Pondweed held his head high, proud of himself.

Rosepetal looked at Pondweed. "Make sure you don't show yourself off." She muttered, but it wasn't in a mean tone, it sounded like she was sick or something. Then she turned and went to the medicine cat den.

Butterkit purred and snuggled against her mother, falling asleep. Cloudkit opened his eyes for the first time as his mother grabbed him, they were a pale blue.

[walk.]

Pondweed cursed under his breath and dropped the squirrel on the pile and he lay down just beside it. Emberheart padded over and cried, "Wow! What a huge squirrel! My favourite!" and took it swiftly from the pile. Fuzzyfur eyed it eagerly and Emberheart flickered his tail for her to go and share it with him. Pondweed burst with pride.

Shiverkit opened his tiny eyes as he felt Shimmerfur's warm body touch his, one was a misty grey and slightly clouded yet the other was a fern green. Hawkkit noticed how Brazenkit, his and Goldenkit's eyes were all green! Bright green like their dad.

Sandyfern lied down in her nest and placed her head on her paws. Rosepetal padded out of the medicine cat den with borage and she went to the nursery, nearly dropping the herbs when she saw Shimmerfur, she put the borage down and blinked her eyes. "I didn't think you would have your kits while Pondweed and I were gone, Shimmerfur." Greystar nodded and flickered his tail, he nuzzled his mate and kits one last time before leaving. Butterkit opened her eyes, they were a bright blue-green.

[walk.]

Shimmerfur purred and mewed, "Neither did I, they came a couple of days earlier than even I had expected, I suppose it was just bad timing!" she chortled and watched Greystar leave the den. She sighed and took the borage leaves when Goldenkit piped up, "Aren't they for increasing a queen's supply of milk and also bringing down a fever?"

Pondweed decided to go back to the medicine den when he noticed Rosepetal, she was probably still shaken up from her dream with Shadeflame. He sighed sadly.

Rosepetal purred and looked at Shimmerfur's kits, then she nodded to Goldenkit. "Very good Goldenkit." She meowed. Sandyfern touched her nose to Rosepetal's ear in friendliness, but jumped back, startled. "Rosepetal, why are your ears burning?" Sandyfern meowed and Rosepetal shook her head, but Sandyfern touched her nose to the medicine cats ear again. "Your sick!"

[walk.]

Pondweed head Sandyfern and came rushing in and meowed, "What is it! A fever? Take some of those spare borage leavs right away Rosepetal and get out of the nursery, you could pass this onto the kits!?" Shimmerfur touched her nose to all her kits and mewed in horror to feel Shiverkit's ears growing hotter. She cried out and licked him desperatly.

Rosepetal growled, then she left the nursery without taking the borage leaves and she went to the medicine cat den. Sandyfern looked at Pondweed. "Try and get her to eat something for the fever, and she's had the fever for more then a week at least."

[walk.]

Pondweed nodded and gavenShimmerfur a supply of borage leaves for Shiverkit and ran after Rosepetal. He mewed, "Um, Heya Mum... Please take these borage leavs or you'll die, I'm not ready to be the medicine cat, I have so much more to learn from you!" He sighed and chewed them into a pulp and handed them to his mum, his eyes now dull with sadness.
