Owner Name: Ashwyn Name: Vorren
{Sometimes goes by Vor} Gender: Male Personality: Vorren is not a rune for the faint of heart, he doesn't go against his nature and try to be kind to all those near him. Nor does he make much of an effort to tone down his general ferocity around others. Vorren is a Toruk, and he is proud to be one. Denying his naturally vicious nature is a deplorable thought to him, and he would sooner chew off his tail than act "tame". Despite that he is highly intelligent and very loyal, capable of making somewhat complex decisions in a short span of time as well as devoutly protecting those that he respects. That being said, he also has a nasty temper and is extraordinarily prideful and willful. Its his way or the highway essentially. The only way to really know him though, is to go a little more in-deoth into his personality, see firsthand how he ticks.

He is extraordinarily prideful, every kill he makes, every deed he sets out to do and accomplishes, each of these are praised, by him, without cease. He is highest in his own eyes, none can compare to him, and none are truly worthy of him. A slight problem when you think about it, seeing as it makes finding a companion or bond of any sort nearly impossible.Vorren let out a long snort of air from his nostrils. Perched in a strong tree he was surveying the ground beneath him with all the humility of a greedy king. He had made a nice kill today and was feeling particularly satisfied. Nothing like a full belly to boost his spirits. Though the conversation on the ground below him was entertaining and enjoyable as well. Two young runes were huddled at the base of the tree, talking to each other nervously about the fearsome Toruk Rune that had been sighted in the area. "I heard he EATS othes Runes." One of them whispered, a grey one, the other shook its head emphatically. "No way, no creature is so vile as to kill others of its own species..." But the second blue one didn't sound as certain as perhaps he should. Vorren rumbled quietly in his throat, this was highly entertaining and he wanted to hear more. Leaning down so that he was in better earshot he continued to listen. "But...didn't you hear about the Forest Rune who was killed earlier? They say he wasn't just killed...he was EATEN. Who...who does that? It MUST be that Toruk Rune." The grey one shuddered fearfully, and Vor tipped his head thoughtfully. Forest rune eh? Very tasty, I'll remember that. He had missed part of the conversation in his musing though, and now turned back to it with interest, "-so why aren't we getting more sightings of it? I mean, from what I've heard the Toruk are HUGE." This from the blue one, who Vorren decided sounded somewhat belligerent and disrespectful. It was irking him, they didn't think he was real? They didn't truly fear him? It was unacceptable. He felt sufficiently wounded by now and decided that the fun and games were over. Sucking in a lungful of breath he released a horrendous roar. The two beneath him began to shriek in fear, too terrified to do anything but tremble. Smirking somewhat Vorren allowed himself to crash through the branches and land not far from them. Narrowing his eyes into slits he glared at them, snaking his tongue across his teeth before speaking. "Full though I am from that delectable green rune from earlier, I wonder if I could find room for two such small Runes as yourselves. Yet I'm feeling benevolent, I shall give you five seconds to fly away. If I catch you, you become my snack, if you escape...good for you." The two still stood, frozen, and Vorren felt irritation flick through him, he didn't want to eat them, he was FULL, but they needed to fly away and tell everyone about him. And if they didn't flee he would be forced to gobble them down. "ONE." He bellowed, eyeing them again. The grey one was beginning to stir, seemingly realizing the peril they were in. "TWO." The grey one gave a frantic squeak and shoved his friend over, which thankfully made the blue one rouse and stare with horrified eyes at him. "THREE!" Vorren snarled, glaring at the blue one who had finally opened his trembling wings. "COME ON!" The grey one shouted, and they took madly to the air, flying desperately away. Four." He murmured, his eyes fixated on them, "Five!" With a mighty roar Vor thundered up through the branches, snapping twigs and making as much noise as possible. Thankfully the two had vanished, seemingly deciding that their chances were better in the woods. So he thrashed about and roared for a bit, just for show, before going back to his tree. He felt extraordinarily smug, the two of them wouldn't ever question HIS existence ever again.

Vorren wrote:But really, I know what I'm doing. Why trust anyone else?
Not surprisingly Vorren doesn't take well to being ordered around, and when he wants to do something he WILL do it. Direction isn't taken well by him, and having a bonded partner thus far has failed....quite miserably because of this. If you don't tiptoe around Vor then he is liable to chomp off your head. Of course, it would even be manageable if he was only willful about things that he is directly involved in, but for Vorren everything happening on earth is his business and relevant to him. As a result he attempts to impose his "brilliant will" on everyone in sight. Getting angry and stubborn when others reject his ideas.Vorren huffed moodily and eyed his latest "bond". As per usual it was a burly male who had caught him by surprise, that had earned some respect from Vor, and besides, the connection had been made and Vorren had to abide by that. Yet it seemed that the more time this burly human spent with him, the more cowardly and pathetic he appeared. Even now the man realized Vorren was staring at him, and he blanched and quickly turned away from the Toruk's golden eyes. Vor was coming terribly close to losing all respect for this individual and eating him. As it was the fool didn't seem to understand or acknowledge a word that Vorren said. Of course, Vorren couldn't actually speak to his companion, but through their bond they did have a sort of limited means of communication. Though this far the imbecile hadn't even bothered to try and reach back with communication. Too scared. Vorren thought contemptuously, already cursing himself for letting this human bond with him. But Vor was feeling lenient today, he would give the human one last chance and THEN eat him. Grunting Vorren uncurled from where he was lying on the ground and forced their connection over. The human, of course, turned and looked fearfully at him. Trying to put together a "sentence" using only images, Vorren imagined flying over the trees and then hunting down some food. His stomach was grumbling. The man put on an "angry face" though and promptly turned his back on Vorren. Through their link Vor could see the man preparing meat and feeding that to him. Angrily he pushed that away and forced his image back on the man. He didn't want some disgustingly cooked food! He wanted to eat raw, juicy, FRESH meat, and he wouldn't accept anything less. The man was stubborn though, and refused to acknowledge Vorren's request. So he did what he always did when someone didn't agree with him, he ate him.

Vorren wrote:Willful, prideful, and impulsive I may be. But NEVER call me stupid.
Now, Vorren has many flaws its true, but when it comes to intellect he's absolutely brilliant. The funny thing is that he doesn't really see himself that way, viewing himself as "not stupid" and thats about it. He is able to strategize in the span of seconds, making it easy for him to maneuver out of difficult situations that others would face and fail. I speculate that the reason his past bonds never worked out was due to his vast intelligence which they couldn't keep up with or understand, particularly since Vorren doesn't understand it himself.Vorren grunted tiredly and looked up into the sky, rain was just beginning to fall, and he estimated that it would be a while before it gave up, given the cloud density and what-not. Shrugging slightly he let his head hang somewhat. He had found a perfect cliffside cave where he had been residing since the killing of his last bond. Truthfully there was a deep and hidden part of himself that missed the companionship of a bond, yet...none of them had really suited him and he knew it. Grunting he rolled his shoulders and flopped restlessly onto his other side, feeling uncomfortable and somewhat unhappy. The last thing he expected that morning was to be accosted in such a protected den. But sure enough, even as he was lying there a slight weight fell atop him, and before Vorren even had the chance to roll or defend himself in any way it was there. The bond. He shifted with a ferocious growl, whoever had managed to sneak up on him here certainly had his respect, but Vor wanted to see if this male was able to stand under the full glare of his golden eyes. But when Vorren turned his head he was nearly struck speechless. A FEMALE stood on his back, dwarfed by his large size. Curly brown hair swirled around her face, and azure eyes peered out defiantly from her face. Vor let an uncertain rumble sit in his throat, his mind was spinning at speeds that were giving him a headache. Who was she? What female would DARE try to bond with him? And what was he going to do now? Eat her? For the first time, much to her astonishment, she seemed to be following his train of thought with relative accuracy, though clearly it was hurting her head too. She raised her hand then and winced. "You don't understand. I have no choice in this..." She paused, seeming to be listening to his thoughts again, "Vorren. I am being hunted, unjustly, by other humans who accused me of all manner of wickedness." Her voice held none of the pleading nonsense he had heard before, only a quiet plea for him to listen. And shockingly, Vor found himself doing just that. But then, it wasn't every day he was attacked by a human female and then spoken to. "Mighty Vorren. You need me and I need you. These men will leave me be if they see I have bonded with you. And I can help alleviate your boredom I'm sure." The first bit was said with solemn grimness and appropriate respect, the second with faint amusement that rankled. Snorting he looked away for a long moment. His mind was spinning again, all the different ways she could be lying to him, and what he was going to do about it. Finally she spoke up again, a faint wince in her voice. "You are a highly intelligent Rune Vorren, your brain is making my head hurt. Good thing I'm decently intelligent too right." This was spoken conversationally, and for the first time in his life Vorren found himself not only liking a human, but contemplating the idea that perhaps he was more than just some instinct ridden beast.
~ Loyal ~
Vorren wrote:Destiny? I don't believe in destiny. Its our own choices that lead us. As Kat's choices and mine led us together. Now it would be almost sacrilegious for me to abandon her. We are tied together. Inexplicably.
This was not a trait that Vorren was expecting himself to posses, but having met and bonded with the human female Kat, he finds himself remaining very loyal to her. As both of them have won each others loyalty and respect, it has become obvious that Vor is highly protective and possessive of her. When she needs him Vorren is there, and while they can't communicate verbally, Vorren and Kat have worked out a means to "talk" through emotions, images, and thoughts. As a result Vorren has grown unusually close to her, and if ever some unfortunate creature is stupid enough to threaten her, Vorren can be expected to fly in and destroy the foolish offender. Because to him, that is what loyalty is, defending her to the death, and not eating her when she gets bossy. There was a time when his loyalty extended only to himself. And to be honest Vorren had enjoyed that time in his life in a way. There had been no sense of responsibility, no need to answer to anyone but himself, yet if the Turok Rune was honest....his life had been empty and meaningless before Kat entered it. True to her word she had kept him from boredom. They had become patrollers of sorts, which meant that Vor got to terrorize, and occasionally eat, the bad guys who caused problems in the human world. Of course, Kat remained aloof among her own race, and Vorren got the feeling that she was an unwanted outsider to them, she never mingled, never laughed easily with them, and they glared at her as well. Clearly whatever had happened before she found him had been pretty bad. Still, they grudgingly respected her now, and at the very least they feared him. And in Vor's mind, that was good enough. On this particular hot day, the two of them had gone off to "break up a disturbance" in some far corner of a human territory. Vorren didn't understand their ways at all, but he was very good at eating and terrifying them. Both skills of which he got to utilize today, needless to say, the troublemakers wouldn't be back any time soon. Kat had left him for a time to go and "visit with a human friend", which had surprised Vor, he didn't know she had friends. It came in an instant, a feeling that seared through to his heart, white hot pain. And Vor instantly knew that Kat was in trouble. The old him would have left her to her fate, but his loyalty to her was strong, and with a furious shriek he rose into the air, following her memories back to a building that stood peacefully on a hill. Furious he ripped the top of it out, peering in to see a horrified human holding a red-stained knife, with Kat huddled in on herself. Vorren roared with fury, the human female, trembling now, put up her hands in a pleading motion, "Mercy please!" She squeaked. But Vorren didn't forget, and he didn't forgive. Snarling he snapped her up in one bite and turned to tend to Kat. She needed help, human help, grunting he carefully lifted her from the ground, managing to get her onto his back and flew to the nearest building that had a healing place in it. Kat's mind sluggishly managing to give me directions. Because thats the thing about loyalty, no matter how inconsequential, how pitiful your partner appears, you do what you have to do for them. And that remained truth.
Why do you wish to have him/her: Ah well, this is fairly easy XD I adored the Ikran rune, but sadly didn't have enough time to apply. I must say though, when I saw the Toruk rune...my heart literally jumped <3 I adored the parts of the movie that had Toruk in them, totally majestic and powerful, and from the start I had mad love for all things Toruk XD
Apart from that, this rune himself seemed to call to me, I can almost hear is gravelly, rumbling, booming voice calling out a challenge, seeking those who are worthy of him...if they dare approach him. Its just kind of....amazing, and he feels extraordinarily real to me <3 And so, I feel I have no choice but to apply. You did a magnificent job with him Benathorn, such a powerful Rune cannot be ignored. Where will you keep him: As with all my beloved characters he will have a place of honour in my signature, his own character thread, and potentially a website depending on how motivated, and how much time, I have over the summer. If you want to see how the majority of my characters are cared for, feel free to click on the links in my siggy. They're a decent example of how I care for a character, though my Tempestine thread is faaaar from completion. Would you like to breed him in the feature: Probably...or more like, possibly. It would have to be a special female though. Vorren isn't exactly "the perfect mate", and I'm not sure if it would even be a good idea to have offspring from him XD Not sure dealing with a miniature version of him would be a wise idea. But I'm definitely not discounting it. So I suppose the short answer is yes. Any Quirks: Vorren is a bit of a compulsive eater. Once he has made a kill the ENTIRE meal must be devoured before he can leave. Whether this is done with the help of others, or simply means he must stay there for a day or two, Vor doesn't care. He also has to do one complete 360 degree turn in his nest before lying down, a similar motion to a dog or a cat, its been suggested that he does this in order to survey his surroundings one last time before settling in...personally I think he just does this for no reason, purely and simply an odd quirk. Other: This story is told from the viewpoints of both Vorren and Kat
Vorren
Just another day in the life. I scanned the treeline below me, the air currents were warm and relaxing, barely any effort was required on my part in order to fly. Had today been any other day one would have assumed that we were simply out for a leisurely flight, and even to me it felt somewhat like that, there was an unreal sort of tilt to everything. A surreal feeling that none of this was actually happening, and yet in my head I knew it was. A soft rumble started deep in my throat and built until it rolled out as nervous thrumming. This was far more dangerous than anything we had done before, and while I was indeed looking forward to all the carnage I could, and would, cause....I also felt anxious worry for Kat. She was just a human, small even for her race, and while she was strong in mind, bold in her actions, and quicksilver fast on her feet, she was still small and weak. Seemingly she sensed what I was thinking, because she reached down to stroke my neck quietly. "It'll be fine Vorren, don't worry about it." I didn't even bother to formulate a response in my mind, it was spinning too fast and darkly to appear logical anyways. I heard her soft resigned sigh and felt only a flicker of guilt before it passed. She was wrong to do this, I felt it in my bones. She should have just told them no, it was foolish to accept and then stumble into the midst of such a mess. But far be it from Kat to listen to reason, in this she had been unusually stubborn, which was strange really. Normally she would at least contemplate what he was saying. But not today. I shook my head in frustration, what was it about this mission that had Kat all up-in-arms and ready to plunge ahead, careless of the danger? It just wasn't like her, and I was starting to get annoyed.
Kat
I could feel Vorren getting restless and testy beneath me. Truthfully it was making me feel a little guilty, but if he knew what I knew....Softly I sighed, he wasn't happy I knew that, but he'd just have to deal with it. There wasn't anything I could do about it now. Sadly I wondered what my parents had felt that day, caught up in the middle of this same battle, forced to choose a side, and in the end being killed as an "example" to others. Letting out a slow breath I felt the always present anger bubble inside of me again, they were going to pay. Pay dearly for what they did to my parents. That this opportunity had presented itself...it had been a dream come true, not even Vorren was going to ruin it for me, much as I loved him...this was just too important. I felt my face harden, lips narrowing into a narrow line as my brow knit together. These people had made me an orphan, leaving me to wander the streets and try to survive on my own, they deserved everything me and Vorren were going to give them and more. I could feel the hatred and vengeance burning beneath my skin, but for once I didn't try to curb it. I knew that it was my ability to control my emotions that generally kept me and Vorren in sync, but for once I found I didn't WANT to control them, I wanted my hatred and anger to burn, burn and fester until they cowered in fear from my very presence. They had laughed, so many years ago, sneered down at her and crushed her beneath the weight of their cruel gazes. "You'll die girl. Nothing more than dust, and just as stupid and useless as your parents." Those words never left her, branded on her heart for all eternity. She had proven them all wrong though, surviving, and more than that! She had bonded with the mighty Toruk rune! And now they would all pay.
Vorren
Vorren felt unease prick at his core, Kat wasn't calming down at all, rather she seemed to be getting even more illogical and angry with every wingbeat.
