That depends entirely on what kind of unicorn you're referring to. Some descriptions say unicorns were fierce, mean, and lived in swamps, while others say they were dainty little things that only appeared for dainty little virgin girls. Personally I much prefer to think of them as just horses or deer-things with horns, which means that the horn would naturally be used for fighting rivals among males.
