SoulScorcher~My New Species~Now up for adoptables!

Postby Peaceful_Chaos » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:11 am

Here's a new species I thought of called Soulscorchers.
A Soulscorcher is another subspecies I of my original Jewel-Hearted Dragons (there's Jewel Hearted Electrones and Jewel Hearted Wyverns so far) and so here's a Soulscorcher.
Energy
To get energy, Soulscorchers use their Spiritfire. What they do is they use their Spiritfire to burn away the flesh of a victim so that only the soul remains, then they eat the soul using their flaming black-hole mouth that glows the same color as their emeralds. The more souls they have, the more their eyes, black-hole mouth, and Soul Emeralds glow. They store the souls and spirits they collect in their chest-emerald, where if you watch closely, you can see the spirits being broken down into a form of energy the Soulscorcher can use, just like how we turn food into energy we can use.
Once a Soulscorcher has filled their chest-emerald as much as they can, they usually go into a long hibernation deep underground, and in their sleep, they digest the souls they stole. While they sleep they also mend any injuries they have--the more souls they have, the faster they repair themselves, but the longer their sleep is. When healing, their wound glows with the energy of a spirit as it mends itself.
They can also only eat 1 color of a soul. The color of one's soul is their Aura, so this one here can only eat the souls of people with a Blue aura. Other Soulscorchers that eat the souls of people with Red auras are red instead of blue, and etc.
Other Species
Soulscorcher Dragons often look different--some of them don't have flesh, just empty bones black as coal and emeralds that are simply floating in relation to them. Others have large gaps or tears in their flesh that goes straight through them that they're born with. Some are partially both, like how this one here is part flesh, part organic armor, and part empty bone (his rib cage). Soulscorchers are all hollow, and their insides are filled with colored light, which is the energy they turn the spirits they consume into. The ones that don't have flesh, just empty bones, have this light visible all over them.
Also, like I said when explaining how/what they eat, their Spiritfire, eyes, emeralds, and inner light is different for most Soulscorcher dragons. One who can only eat the Souls of a person with Pink Auras will have a pink inner light. Also, there is a chance of 3 very rare soulscorcher dragons: Black Soul Soulscorchers, White Soul Soulscorchers, and Rainbow Soul Soulscorchers. Those 3 kinds, as there is no white, black, or rainbow aura, can eat any soul.
Habitat
Soulscorcher dragons live in dead, empty lands, often exploring the empty plains that wars and battles leave behind them, sometimes following the path of the battles and army marches a few days behind, killing anyone who was forgotten. They will steal the soul of anything in sight, but if its soul aura is not compatible with the Dragon's so they cannot eat it, they will simply tear its very fabric apart with their Spiritfire. It is said they come from another dimension where there is no light and no happiness, just rocky lands devoid of plants and with animals made of empty skeletons.
Size & Repopulating
Size~ Soulscorchers grow with each hibernation. Once they eat enough souls, they hibernate and digest the souls in their sleep. Once their wounds are mended, they'll store away just enough energy to keep on living, but use the extra energy they have that they don't need to grow. A Soulscorcher can go to hibernation and wake up 2 feet longer than they were when they fell asleep in just one week. When hatching, they have no confirmed size (see repopulation)
Repopulating~ Soulscorcher dragons have no gender. When they die, their single chest-emerald becomes an egg, and after a select amount of time, the young soulscorcher dragon hatches from the egg, like how some phoenixes do in legend (when they die a hatchling is born from their embers). Therefore, sense a Soulscorcher dragon can grow to be any size, the size of the child that hatches from their chest-emerald can be of any size. If a soulscorcher dragon died old, their hatchling can be bigger than a house. If they died young, their hatchling can be no bigger than a small rock. Though a Soulscorcher hatching large is something many would think would be a good fortune for the hatchling as they are big and strong, it is actually sometimes a curse as the young one has to find enough souls to support its sized almost immediately, and with such little experience--while a small hatchling only has to take the soul of one rodent before it can have its first hibernation. As soon as they die, their body deteriorates so that only the chest emerald remains.
They also need to have enough souls in their emerald at the time for the child to hatch, so that the child can have enough energy to break out of the emerald. If the young Soulscorcher is not strong enough to break out of the emerald, it will die inside. If a soulscorcher dies with no souls in its emerald, its hatchling will not live. But if one has plenty of souls at the time, its hatchling will be very strong and have a good chance of surviving. It is also said that Soulscorchers themselves have no soul, which is why they rely on the souls of others in order to live.
Any Aura-soul-color of Soulscorcher dragon can be born from any other dragon. A Blue Soul Soulscorcher Dragon can die, and the hatchling that will come out of its chest emerald might very well be a Green Soul Soulscorcher and not blue.
There is also a not-rare but not-common chance that a soulscorcher will have 2 chest emeralds: one in front, and one sort of behind its front legs. When they die, though their hatchlings will be smaller, they will instead have 2 young soulscorchers hatching. Those with 2 chest-emeralds can also consume more souls than others their size because they have more space to store them.
Living
Soulscorcher dragons live in small, unloyal packs that have a social structure similar to a Lion Pride or a Wolf Pack. As Soulscorchers have no gender and do not breed like normal creatures, they don't have 2 dominate mates but rather they just have 1 dominate warrior. This dragon is usually the biggest and the one that collects the most souls. The one dominate dragon usually has 1-3 back-up buddies which are the next biggest dragon in the pack. These buddies advise the one dominate warrior (not with words but with simple gestures, such as if the dominate one was about to fight another creature but the back-up-buddies thought it wasn't a good idea, they'd simply stand between them or something as well as other ways to communicate such as snarling, roaring, purring, breathing fire, etc). The dominate warrior oversees the scorching of souls done by the rest of the pack, like how a lion pride has a few dominate males that watch as the females do the hunting. When one Soulscorcher has collected enough souls to commence in a hibernation, they find a comfortable cave and the pack leaves them behind.
However, Soulscorcher packs are very rare, as most prefer lives of solitude. Often times, they'll buddy up with another Soulscorcher or two. It is very, very rare to see Soulscorcher packs of over 8, even when seeing Soulscorcher dragons is rare in the first place (which you should consider yourself fortunate they aren't more common). Most of the time, Soulscorcher packs are of 3-5. They often find a little alcove of dead rocks in the lifeless lands they live on, a little valley or oasis, and hide (using their rocky camouflage) behind the stones, then they surround travelers when they pass by the oasis to camp.
Soulscorcher dragons, though, are very selfish, and this causes MANY problems within packs. They have bloody battles for leadership of a pack more often than they should, and will claw each other apart for one measly serving of a squirrel soul. This often causes unorganized chaos--which is another reason why most Soulscorchers prefer being alone, or with one or two others that they are actually compatible with rather than a big, betraying, unloyal pack full of deadly murderers.
The largest pack of Soulscorcher dragons ever seen was spotted with a pair of binoculars as a deadly pack of over 30 made their way across dead desert plains.
Battling
When fighting, usually just two Soulscorcher dragons will face off in a deadly battle of fire and claw. It is in battles that Organic Armor and Fleshless Bone Soulscorcher dragons have the advantage, for it is harder to injure a dragon made of bone and armor than it is to injure one made of scales and flesh. Also, like the blue one shown here, they can use their deadly armor or bone tails in battle.
Despite how barbaric Soulscorchers are, they actually have traditions with battle. They face off in a flat, empty area of land big enough for them to fight in, circling around each other slowly. Before the fight officially begins, they both bow and snort a breath of fire from their noses before they circle each other as they wait for a chance to strike.
When it starts, they will fight to the death with tooth, claw, and blistering Spirit flames. For a more powerful breath of fire, a Soulscorcher can turn souls straight into flames. The angered, lost, confused spirits will often tear away at the enemy before fading away into the afterlife. However, when a Soulscorcher uses fire made precisely from souls, this weakens their soul supply. Therefore, sometimes even when a Soulscorcher wins a battle, they still die from fatigue and weakness with the loss of soul energy. This is why, as soon as a Soulscorcher wins a battle, they sap the leftover souls stored in the enemy's chest emerald in order to keep living.
