Magic has fled the world.
Many years ago, humans and magic lived in fear of each other. Humans burned and hung witches, and even now, humans go looking for the magic beings, though they hide well from them.
Slowly, populations of the magic beings dwindled, leaving them inbred, ill, and dying.
So what did they do?

Worried whispers pass between girls.
"Did you hear that the girl in P.E. vanished? One night, poof! Nothing left."
Of course you didn't know about that. You just woke up in a room with a handsome man nearby, smiling.
You don't remember much.
You have a name, you lived with your parents in a normal home, friends, sports.
But details are blurry.
Then he tells you. Your parents gave you up for an arranged marriage.

"They owe us, lad."
"They took our lives, so now we take theirs to join us."
Why does this feel wrong though?
The girls don't know that their parents can't remember them.
All they know is who they are, and they belong to you now.

The biggest shock? It's not that you're going to be married. Heavens no.
It's that he isn't...
He's not...
He's not a human.
He's not a vampire or a werewolf either.
He's not some beautiful magical being.
He's something horrible. A beast.
Yeah, if he wants to be, he's a human for you. Handsome, charming.
The other form though. It scares you to death.
When you cried out in fear he looked so sad though. He tried to console you.
But can you be happy with a beast for a husband? Or do you risk going after the family who may not remember you?
What if they abused you? What if there is no family to go after?
What then?
Escape into the unknown, or stay and marry this... Thing.
You can't choose both.
