Sophia Russell - District Two
Trotting into the centre of District Two, a shiver runs down my spine. I have had a lot of bad luck this week - I don't want any more.
Arriving at the area used for reaping, I jump off of my palomino horse, Josie, and stand next to my friend Jason Small. We chat quietly at the back of the street.
I feel good, I think to myself.
Maybe I won't get chosen. Well, there are 599 other girls her so I stand a pretty good chance.Just as I begin to feel calm, the soldier reading out the chosen tributes barks out, "Girls first!"
After a lot of rummaging around in his bag for names, he calls out, "Sophia Russell and her horse Josie!"
All eyes are on me as I numbly walk to the stage. I have a poker face because I'm trying to stop myself crying. I do, however, try to run away idiotically which results in a sharp pull on my arm by the soldiers.
Good bye, Jason. My family. Everybody I love...Jason Small - District Two
My heart is racing. My mouth is dry. It's hard to breathe. What other torture does London want to put us through now? The reaping of course: also known as 'The place where you receive your ticket to Hell'. I can't deny it - I'm scared. Not for me but for my friends. They are all I have besides Knight, my gorgeous jet-black horse. I'm lacking in reasons not to volunteer if my fellow buddies do get chosen.
I feel worthless. Alone. Afraid.
My friends are gorgeous, talented people. They don't deserve to die.
I arrive in the street used for reaping and sit nervously at the back. My worst fears are confirmed when my best friend Sophia is unfortunately chosen to receive her coupon for a free holiday via death. I don't want to leave her on her own with a bunch of strangers in an unknown environment - who knows what the design is for the arena? The Gamemakers never let this information be accessible to the public.
Uh oh... It's time for the boys to be chosen, I think to myself, followed by a lot of swearing and cussing in my head.
"Kyle Jones and his horse Misty!" The soldier yells out.
Kyle? No no no no... He can't go, he means too much to me. He saved me from death in the cold winter months. He can't die, he can't die, he can't die...
"I volunteer as tribute!" I scream loudly, followed by loud gasps from the women, men and children surrounding me.
I walk to the stage as I notice Kyle mouthing something to me. "Thank you Jason. Thank you so much!"
After a series of questions asking if I am sure I want to be a volunteer, I am allowed to be a tribute alongside Sophia. I know I am going to die but it's worth saving others in the process.
