CONGRATULATIONS CITY GIRL!!!

Postby skïttles » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:51 pm

An unspecified time before the current date, the face of the Earth changed and modern civilization was seemingly destroyed. It is unknown precisely what caused the "end of the world", but major landmasses changed shape as the sea level rose to unknown heights around the planet. Some time after the end of the world as we knew it, a nation was established in North America that would soon come to be known as Panem. It is unknown precisely when Panem was established and how long it has existed, though it is certain that Panem has been around for more than seventy-five years, and it's entirely possible for it to be at least a century or two old.

Panem eventually grew large enough that it was segmented into thirteen separate districts, each responsible for producing goods of a particular industry to serve the growing needs of the nation, and all operating under the auspices of Panem's oppressive Capitol. Its exact method of expansion is unknown; it is possible that some of the separate districts may have even once been smaller, separate nations that were eventually annexed by Panem.

The various districts of Panem rebelled against the Capitol, primarily due to the oppressive fashion in which the Capitol government ruled over the districts. It is unknown how long the rebellion lasted or the exact number of casualties on either side (although the Capitol claims that for every dead Capitol citizen, two rebels died), but by the end of the conflict, the Capitol had quelled the rebellion, defeating twelve of the districts and obliterating the thirteenth entirely.

In the wake of the rebellion, the Capitol established the Hunger Games, an annual event in which twenty-four children between the ages of twelve and eighteen, one boy and one girl from each district, are chosen from a lottery and entered into a gladitorial competition where they must fight each other to the death until only one remains standing.

The event served two purposes. The first was to demonstrate the overwhelming power the Capitol had over the districts by taking their children by force and forcing them to slay each other in a no-rules competition. It was proof that the Capitol's control over its people was so inexorable and unstoppable that they could do something so sadistic as to force the children of their conquered foes to slay each other in a battle royale. The second purpose was purely for entertainment. The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in the same vein as a reality show, its entrants practically considered celebrities and the events themselves dramatized and glorified.

It's a whole new hunger games. The stakes are higher, the dangers are greater, and there is a prize if you win. Yes, that's right. There's a prize. And guess what it is? A rare 2009. You also get the pool. The pool is the combination of pets gathered throughout the Hunger Games for various reasons. And what's even better? There are several other prizes to be had. And don't worry, you don't have to win to get a prize!

Now that I have your attention, here's how it works. This is just like the hunger games that you have read, but the extremity is greater. There are twenty-four tributes, two from each district. One male, and one female. Only one of those tributes can win, and the others can only hope that they will make it to see their families again. Before the games begin, of course, there is a training. There's rating. Everyone shows off their skills. And then it begins. There is chaos around the cornucopia. Death. Then everyone goes their separate ways. Some hunt, some hide but its just a matter of time until one is left. Are you up for the challenge of the Hunger Games?

Rules

Postby skïttles » Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:56 pm

1. Please, do respect our game makers. We have the power to kill your character. :)
-Also, do not ask to be a game maker. If we need more, we will find the people we want for the job.
-We have a system of strikes. Three strikes and you're dead. You can see how to get strikes if you keep reading.

2. Think about it like this: your character is invincible. They can survive anything. Roleplay it like that, but if the situation presents itself, try to make their brush with death as real as possible. The only reason we want your character to be invincible is because if they just all die normally, we don't have any fun! Warning: this means if we don't like how your character survives/we don't think he/she could survive, we will kill them. And, please don't argue if your character does end up dead. 23 of them will, it's just a matter of who goes first. Also, your character isn't perfect in the way that he/she knows everything that is poisonous, how to avoid things, etc.

3. This roleplay is semi-literate. You have to have at least six nicely-written sentences, or you will get a strike. You don't want to get a strike. Three strikes leads to death. You will also get a strike if you alter the environment without our consent. Don't worry, you can have your character dig or make a lean-to or something, but don't have rain suddenly start falling when your character is thirsty, or have a wind pick up that sends something's scent your character's way. We control the environment.
-If there is an event, we will post it as a reply to the thread, so don't worry about checking the message boards or anything. That is just for our entertainment :)

4. If you want to quit/can't roleplay anymore, please send one of the game makers a private message. We will eliminate your character. You may only have one character. If you do not post within 3 days of the start of the roleplay, or within 1 day of your last post, with no speak of it beforehand to us, your character will receive a very imaginative death.

5. You cannot draw out of the pool once you have made a bet if you see that your character is not doing what you like them to do. Speaking of the pool, the winner gets the majority of it, while the rest is equally divided between the betters.

6. If a new element is introduced to the story, and your character doesn't notice/react to it *if the element concerns your character* you will get a strike.

7. Alliances are allowed, as long as you previously ask the person/people you want to make alliances with. Remember that however strong their friendship is, they aren't going to pull a Katniss-and-Peeta and have two winners. In this Hunger Games, we would prefer have no winners :)

8. Little to no romance please. This is a survival, fight-to-the-death roleplay. Imagine having a lover. Imagine having to kill them, or having someone else kill them? If your character is immediately in love, you will get a strike or get dead. Strikes are bad news. So is being dead.

9. Be detailed with your form, we aren't scared to deny you. Also, we will be judging the forms off of the forms themselves, not your writing abilities, keep that in mind. So, if you make an epic form, and we accept you, and your writing is not-so-epic *meaning you have less than the literacy required* you'll get a strike.

District Information

Postby skïttles » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:45 pm

The nation of Panem is separated into a total of thirteen nation-states known as districts, twelve of which are recognized as operational by the Capitol, and each being solely responsible for producing, procuring, or refining goods in a particular industry as dictated by the Capitol. All of the districts are subject to the unrelenting will of the authoritarian Capitol, and have no known influence concerning the national politics of Panem beyond their own individual territories.

The districts barely interact with each other since it was illegal, so each district generally has a unique culture unaffected by the other districts which strongly influenced by the goods it produces. Welfare levels vary significantly, and are often dependent on the goods it produces; some districts, such as 11 and 12, are far more impoverished than wealthier districts like 1,2, and 4, though apparently no district is nearly as wealthy as the Capitol itself.

Originally, there were thirteen districts in Panem. During the Dark Days, the 13th district was obliterated by the Capitol and is no longer recognized as operational. Each District provides something different to the Capitol; for example, District 12 provides coal and District 4 provides fishing.

Image
District 1 is one of the thirteen districts of Panem. Its industry is making luxury items for the Capitol. Due to the nature of its industry, it's considered the wealthiest district, the only other wealthier area being the Capitol itself. It is considered a career district. Little else is known about this district. At the end of Mockingjay, there are memorials made for the Tributes and Victors fallen from District 1, meaning District 1 has 148 of Panem's memorials in their District.

.

Image
District 2's seal depicts a block of stone and carving tools. The district's public presentation is that of stone quarries, but it also manufactures weaponry, makes trains, and supplies Peacekeepers. The main military complex in the district is known as The Nut. Citizens of District 2 are sometimes called "the pets" of the Capitol. They are the biggest supporters of the Capitol and therefore are pampered and given many extra conveniences.

.

.

.

Image
District 3's primary industry is general electronics of many types, though it is known for also making various mechanical products such as automobiles and firearms. Thus, many of its residents are technically apt. It is not considered a career district, though District 4 is.

.

.

.

Image
District 4's industry is fishing, thus most residents have experience using nets and tridents, making fishhooks from scratch, swimming, and identifying edible sea life. It is considered a Career district.

.

.

.

Image
This district's industry is power.

.

.

.

Image
This district's industry is transportation. In the 75th Games, two of the past winners were proven to be morphling addicts. Little else is known about District 6.

.

.

.

Image
District 7's industry is lumber and many of its residents have experience with hatchets, axes, saws, and other tree cutting tools. Also, this district's children begin work at an early age.

.

.

.

Image
District 8's principal industry is the production of textiles, and they have at least one factory that is primarily used for making Peacekeeper uniforms. It was the first district to rebel after the revolution. The rebellion worsened conditions for residents and some escaped.

.

.

.

Image
District 9's industry is grain. Little is known about this district.

.

.

.

Image
Livestock is District 10's industry. Not much is known about this district, but some known information is that its marriage rituals are similar to that of District 4's.

.

.

.

Image
District 11's industry is agriculture - orchards and fields of grain and cotton surround the district. Almost everything grown is shipped directly to the Capitol. It is one of the poorest districts in Panem, second only to District 12. In addition, it is also one of the districts where the Peacekeepers are the strictest. Ironically, this directly results in its residents generally being malnourished and underfed despite its focus on agriculture. District 11 is south of District 12. District 11 is located somewhere in the south and is quite large.

.

.

.

Image
District 12 is located somewhere near what was the Appalachian mountains. Its chief industry is coal mining. The district has the distinction of being one of the poorest districts, if not the outright poorest, in all of Panem.

Map, Creatures & Foliage

Postby skïttles » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:53 pm

What you're looking at is a poorly drawn map of the Hunger Games you are about to enter. At its center is the cornucopia, labelled clearly on the map. The jagged line that surrounds everything in a semi-circle is where the border is. The blue triangles are oasis's, and the green dashes represent trees. The purple dot near the bottom right corner is a mountain. The mountain isn't normal. It is infested with creatures that don't like humans, but there are also animals that are edible there. The climate is slightly better, although treed there is snow there. Deep, cold snow.

Image

The creatures of this Hunger Games are none-too pleasant.

{ { Giant Birds: These are generally called Raptors. There are very large, and they are grey. Mostly, they are bald, covered in tiny pin feathers. They have a large crest of feathers on the back of their head, and their beaks are very long and very sharp, with serrated teeth lining them. Raptors love to feast on the flesh of tributes, and they often take the tributes in their talons and carry them to their nest that rest underneath overhangs on the mountain to feed to their babies. Raptors hunt alone.

{ { Leeches: They lurk within the depths of some of the oases, an when an unfortunate tribute lingers too long, the leeches latch on. The only way to get them off is to cut off the flesh and meat around them. The main problem is that, although the leech is large and black, and hard to miss if seen, they emit a fluid that makes the area numb, so it can't be felt.

{ { Bugs: These are named Seedlings. Seedling are placed into tributes when the tribute is stung by a small, spider-like beetle with vibrant black and red colors. These spider-beetles come in swarms and they are very difficult to avoid. Seedlings are the babies of these beetles. The Seedlings travel within the blood stream until they reach the heart, and from there, they begin eating their way out, nourishing themselves on the tribute. This is very painful, and almost impossible to stop once it has started.

{ { Bats: They come out at night, and they drink your blood. Bats are everything that is feared. In the very dark of night, when nothing can be seen, they attack. They are twice the size of a tribute, covered in leathery armor. They have a great sense of smell, but that can't hear on the same frequency as humans and they are blind. They also use echolocation to find their prey. Once the sun begins to rise, they will leave, even in the beginning of a meal, but once they have fed, there is forever a tracker in that person and the bats will return night after night until the tribute is drained.

{ { Lizards: For once, here is a creature that is not vile. They can be poisonous. Lizards are good to eat, but they have poison glads behind their ears, and if that poison comes in contact with skin, it will create a minor burn. If accidentally consumed, that means death.

{ { Rabbits: These are completely normal. There is nothing special about them, but they have very good meat.

{ { Snakes: They move underneath the ground, and when they sense movement, they strike. Their fangs are very poisonous, and the venom is lethal. The only way to avoid these is to find a rock to hide on top of. They cannot move above ground, so they tend to stay beneath the earth. If captured, they can be used as a very good weapon, similar to leeches and beetles.

{ { Spiders: They live in palm trees, curling up into balls and passing for very large coconuts. Their bodies are about the same size as a person's head, not counting the expansive legs. They sting their prey, leaving angry welts over the skin. They are not lethal, unless you get stung too many times, or near a place that swelling will cause death.

The foliage is very sparse, but can still save lives.

{ { Cacti: These are the most common planets in the territory. If they are cut open, the tribute can drink freely a few precious mouthfuls. The water does not contain the possibility of contamination. The flowers that grow from the cactus are edible as well.

{ { Palms: These are dangerous to get too close to for fear of spiders, which is sad, because they usually surround the oases.

{ { Shrubs: They general live up on the mountain. They are very hard to get to, living deep underneath the snow, but if they are found, the roots provide a substance that can wash poison from the system. Their leaves are small and green, veined with darker green. If a tribute tries to eat a root from a shrub with the exact leaves, save for the veins being yellow instead of green, they will go into shock, and within hours, die.

{ { Pine Trees: There is nothing special about them.
