Amavin nodded and removed yet another leaf from her horses' pack. She unfolded this one and handed it carefully to Aragorn. Inside was a clear goo like liquid that seemed to radiate heat. She would have to remember to thank her grandmother next time she got the chance. "It feels like the last battle barely ended." Amavin muttered. A shudder went down her spine at the thought of yet another battle for the fate of the world. "The ring was supposed to destroy him for good, how can we possibly hope for another chance?"

"Could Sauron have forged another Ring in Mount Doom?'' That was unlikely. How could it be possible that Sauron was returning? As she thought, Elen nudged her back and shook her mane. "Not now, Elen!" Kalaria whispered though clenched teeth. The grey mare was usually more patient than this. She figured the mare might have been trying to alert her of something, but when she looked around her, she saw nothing.

"I do not know how he has done it" Aragorn shook his head as he placed the leaves on the dragon's wound. " It was said that he perished for ever after the ring was destroyed, but perhaps he had another power, another hidden part of his soul" his expression saddened as he thought of another war "Five years, so little" he whispered.

Nightshade blinked slowly at Legolas. "I am from.....Mirkwood. I do not know......how Sauron returned, but......I warn you, both he.....and his armies.....will be stronger. See....." she put a claw to a small, black, diamond-shaped gem, about 1 1/2" wide and 2" tall, imbedded in her forehead. "Shadowstone. As much a part.....of me as......my spines. I had......a larger one......here" she indicated the wound in her chest "but it was.......stolen by Sauron. Shadowstones are........very rare, and......very powerful."

Giode was in one of her trees that she had claimed for her own. Most people where used to her and claiming trees randomly. But sometimes people still wondered if she had problems. Giode looked down at her horse, Sugar, that was laying down underneath the tree. She had seen the creature crash and did not dare come any closer.

Aragorn frowned, concerned "Shadowstones? I have never heard of such thing" he continued keeping the goey leaves in place "Is it replaceble?" he asked, glancing around and hoping she would survive.

Nightshade shook her head slightly. "Not replaceable.......no. I can live........without it, but my......shadow powers will be.......weaker. The problem is......with the power........in that shadowstone, the Dark Lord.........can create an army. I........don't want to.......explain exactly how, I'm too......tired, but the stone's power.......creates creatures known as.......darklings. They.......resemble orcs, but are........black, with red eyes. They......feel pain, but do not.....bleed, and when killed, they.....dissolve into wisps of shadows. They are evil brutes......barely intellegent....enough to carry out.....orders, but that shadowstone.....has enough power to create........millions upon millions. And there is no way.....to destroy a shadowstone. The only way.....to stop it making darkings.....is for me to get it back.....so I can control it."

Aragorn nodded slowly at her words "So we must reclaim it, before he has time to create that army" he glanced up at the two elves and the human. "We must be going at once, but we cannot leave this dragon here. I suggest that we wait till dusk, and then we shall be on our way to Mount Doom" he frowned as he said that word again. Aragorn had thought that he would never again say it. "Or at least, those who will follow me" His gaze turned to Nightshade after a few moments "Your wound is healing fast. You will be strong in no time" The king stood up and smiled at Legolas "So what have been your doings recently, Legolas?"

Nightshade lightly touched the healing wound, closing her eyes. The shadowstone imbedded in her forehead began to glow, faintly, and a sphere of swirling shadows slowly formed in front of it. The black dragon raised her head, touching the center of the sphere with a claw. As if she were brushing away dust, a large area of the ball turned smooth, and shapes could be seen moving about. Nightshade whispered a couple of words in a strange, hissing tounge, and the shapes became clearer. They didn't really look like anything, but they seemed to make sense to Nightshade. She nodded slowly, not speaking.
