Divided We Fall -

The World has changed, as all things must.
It has been 500 years since The Great War; the third and last world war. Cities were flattened and countries destroyed, earth became a barren and war wrought land. When the dust settled nothing was the same and it has taken half a millennium but the world has finally regain stabality. The world has come together as one; one people of the earth. A nation, world wide, called The United.

It is said The United is the perfect society, the end to the wars and the beggining of Peace Time. It is said but there are those that know the truth. The United is no better then the Governments of the past; they just happen to have come along in a time of need and have the power of smooth speech.

They are called The Divided, their name whispered in alleyways and shadows. They are feared and hated, still seen as the lepros, outcast's of society all due to genetics.
They first started popping up during The Great War, used as weapons. Each Nation had them and each Nation used them. They are the next evolutionary step for mankind, or maybe it was just a flaw and was never supposed to happen. Children born with the power to control nature, to rule the mind and to do what has only ever been dreamed possible. Seen as such a threat to The United and, as it has been claimed, to Peace itself; it has been now decreeded that every child at the age of ten would be tested. If they have been found to be one of The Divided, they will be branded with the Symbol of their kind (two parallel lines on the back of their neck) and taken away from their family; to be trained and to be "Cured".
On their sixteenth birthday, if they have survived been deemed "Cured" they are allowed to leave. To join soiciety as one of many.

There are those out there that have slipped past the System as children and those who have been "cured" who still have control of their mind.
These are the ones who plan a silent rebellion.
A way to fight against The United, because the truth is there is no Freedom or Peace. The United rule all and the all have no say; so they sneak around and plan. Waiting for a time to move, trying to live past their next day.

Due to the limit on characters you may only have 1 Divided Character. You are allowed to have a second character as long as they are Unitied.

Nobody and nothing is perfect so I expect your characters wont be as well. No Gary/Mary-Sues. Flaws are natural and beautiful!

If you are a member of The Divided you are allowed to have a power, but only 1 power! There will be no ultimate powers, no unbeatable powers, keep them semi-realistic. If you have questions about a power and if you can have it, please message me or post OOC. Also do not double a power, if one person chooses to control lightning you are not allowed to choose that as well.

The Year Is

.:Setting:.

The United: The name of the one and only country on earth.

Pith City: Where this story takes place. The Captial City of United, it is located in the South Western part of what was once known as The United States of America. It is a beautiful city, rebuilt in the memory of the great city New York. Due to destruction during The Great War there was not as many resources, Pith is made of old metal and wood. It looks almost handmade (which it is). There is some glittering and perfect buildings but that would be in the heart of the city, where the United Council lives and works.

.:The People:.

The United Council: A group of five, a mixture of both men and woman, who are the Government of the world. They control everything and have final say in whatever is happening. The symbol of The United Council is a perfect +

The United Peace Core: They are what would be considered a police force. There is no longer any court system, they deal with anything that goes against the laws. If neccessary a criminal will be brought before The United Council for sentancing. The symbol of the Peace Core is a + with a circle around it.

The Divided: The nickname for all humans born with an 'unnatural' ability or power. It is also the whispered name of the rebellion that is against The United's way of doing things. The Divided Group is run by a Nineteen year old, or so it is said. The symbol of the Divided is two parallel black lines || and almost every single Divided has one tattooed on the backs of their neck.

.:The Way of Things:.

Travel: In the city the most common way of travel is Subways and Busses. There are very few cars, fuel is at an all time low. Only the rich have their own personal motorized vehical. Travel across seas are taken with boats. Long distance across land is done by a train or by an airship; there are no longer any airplanes.

Money: For the common folk most things are payed for through tradeing items or work. There are coins in circulations and the more prized items need money, but for basic needs people usually just find a way to get them without forking over hard earned cash.

Animals: People still own pets, though larger animals are not common in the city and exotics are unheard of. Dogs and Cats are only ever purebreed if you have the money. There are many street animals in the cheaper side of Pith, never in the Heart of the City.

Electronics: There are still cellphones and computers, there just aren't that many or used that often. Cellphones and the Internet are monitored at all times, making you unable to say or view certain material. For the saftey of the people, of course. No new advancements have taken place in the electronical feild since The Great War.

The Underground: Where the illeagle activies of Pith take place, yes even this great city has an underground. It is always moving, always changing. Home to gambling, drugs, booze, the black market and often a hangout and meeting place for The Divided as they are not welcome many places if they are identified as one.

Clothing: The style of clothing for most common folk is a type of Industrial Grunge and Punkish. The wealthier and older have a more refined look.

Before he turned ten he lived a normal life, the oldest child of two. His mother worked as a secretary for The United Council offices and his father was a Electrician for Pith. At the age of ten, like all children of Pith, he was tested for an ability. He failed the test, to the horror and disgust of his family, and was branded as a member of The Divided. He permenatly branded and taken away that very day to the testing facility. For the next six years of his life he was put through training and what he would define as torture until he was "Cured." When he was released he ran, becoming nothing more then a shadow on the outskirts of the city. He joined with other "Cured" Dividers as well as some forgotten ones who never entered the city. For three years he has been doing odd jobs, learning the in's and out's of the city and planning a way to take down The Council.

Kail is a tough nut to crack. He is a guarded man, keeping his most personal things to himself. He does not like to open up and even the people he is close to barely know anything about him. He has yet to find anyone he trusts enough to actually be truthful with. Saying he isn't truthful isn't saying he is a liar, he just doesn't admit to anything keeping almost everything to himself. Around his friend though he is light hearted and friendly, more like a teenager then a rebellion soilder. If you are lucky enough to see his smile and hear his laugh that means you are someone he actually cares about. Though he is often seen as the calm and cool soilder, keeping his head when in trouble, he does have a temper. If you go after something he cares for or believes in he will go after you, he isn't shy in admitting that he does and will take revenge.

His father was a council member before his death, but he never wanted to go into politics and preffered being the one in the front; physically keeping order. He was raised under strick United Code, at the age of sixteen he entered the Core. His skills and fathers power raised him quickly through the levels until he made Captian at the age of twenty-two. He has been working hard since then to destroy any trace of The Underground and The Divided (who he blames for his mothers death when he was three years old) in society.

Vegas is a man of the law, through and through. He believes that the United Way is the right way. He takes his job seriously and spends most of his time there, making it hard to really get a grasp on what kind of guy he is other then a hard ass workaholic. The man never loosens up and he never seems to be relaxed, this is his one big flaw. He works so hard to bring down The Divide but he never seems to gain any ground, it is both frustrating to him and infuriating; so never mention The Divide infront of him unless absolutley necessary.

Note from myself: I'm not trying to sound rude about this or anything, but it's nearly impossible for the average person, unless they have a degree of some sort in neuroscience or psychology, to point out that a person is a psychopath or sociopath. It's a pet peeve of mine when someone goes up to my character and states bluntly, without having any beforehand knowledge of the character or the topic, that my character suffers from a mental disorder of some sort.

Kate's main job is to do editing for newspapers and other pamphlets around the Pith; she is also known to help create United propaganda to learn more about the United programs. Whenever she learns something new about the United, Kate tries to report back to the Divided with the information.

It's quite obvious that Kate isn't built for the life of a fighter. She's a small, narrow-shouldered gal that is nearly dwarfed by everybody that she meets on the street. Her legs are long and lean, making it easy for her to escape out of situations with quick speed. Although she appears proportionate at a distance, Kate's arm length is slightly shorter than her height, although it is unknown by how much.
Skin Tone:
Pale; Kate usually only burns during the warm seasons. Also, she suffers from minor vitiligo (lack of skin colouration) in random patches all over her body; the most common places are on her wrists, knees, on top of her feet, and the top of her right hand. These patches aren't very noticeable due to her pale skin.
Hair:
Kate has a strange hairstyle that isn't commonly seen in teenage females like her. The left side of her head has only a very thin layer of shaved hair, which fades into longer, chin length hair on the right side of her head near the middle. (For a visual of this haircut, click here.) Her hair is oak brown with scattered highlights of copper red and honey blonde.
Eye Color:
Kate's eyes don't consistently stay the same colour throughout the day. Due to the different eye pigmentation, her eyes change colours constantly (dark green in poor lighting, dark blue in average lighting, light blue in good lighting, gray in excellent lighting, and sometimes heterochromatic [left eye light green, right eye light blue] in some lighting). There is some brown around the pupils of Kate's eyes, but it isn't that much noticeable unless you look closely.
Clothing:
When it comes to clothing, Kate just wears whatever she can find, or whatever the newspaper company that she often works with is willing to give her. Most of the time, she stitches and patches up her clothing with simple sewing techniques that her adoptive mother taught her; this is why most of her clothes is patched up. Kate does have a tendency to avoid tight fitting clothes and often wears layers in an attempt to hide her scrawniness.
Tattoos/Piercings/Etc.:
Since Kate managed to escape the program that she would have been forced to go through, she lacks the marking that the average Divided have. She has no tattoos or piercings.
Other:

• Due to poor eyesight, Kate has to wear these glasses. She hasn't had them adjusted in a while, so there are multiple scratches on them.
• People commonly mistaken Kate for being in her college years or having just graduated college. She has also been mistaken for a guy.

On the outside, it's quite obvious that this girl suffers from some mental condition to some degree. Kate wears the perfect stone face all the time, no matter where she is. When she's around complete strangers, she tries to blend in with the crowd, like she doesn't even exist in an attempt to stay away from socializing. Most people mistaken Kate for being schizophrenic and mentally ill, as she just seemingly stares through people with her blank stare; that's one of the main reasons people try to avoid her.
True Personality:
Schizophrenic, elusive, manipulative, anti-social; Kate has heard every insult possible to describe her personality. But she doesn't care what people say about her; it doesn't directly effect her like most people. It's the same thing when she insults someone directly or indirectly; she holds no remorse or feelings for what she just said to the person. Why? Because Kate is part of the small percentage of the world's population that can call herself both a sociopath and psychopath.
Kate has a "perfect" poker face that she constantly wears, no matter who she's around. When she does feel like expressing at least some emotion, her eye expression or facial expression remains blank. The main reason for this is her place on the sociopath spectrum directly effects how much facial expressions she can muster correctly. Most of the time, Kate just speaks with her hands instead of her expressions, as she knows that speaking with her hands means that she's most likely to persuade people easier.
Lying, manipulating, cheating; that's what people describe Kate's habits as. She can pull off lies with a snap of her finger, even when she doesn't have much time to think about the lie. Most of the time, her lies become more complex, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact location of where Kate's lies started. With her consistent poker face, it's easy for Kate to pull off lies without giving any hints that she's lying.
Despite having a poor background in education, Kate has an above average intelligence level for her age. She can read Greek philosophy, French philosophy, American philosophy, biology, college textbooks, whatever she feels like reading with no problem. Again, the sociopath factor plays into this, as most sociopaths have above average intelligence levels.
Kate analyzes people. No, not just analyzing people like saying "Oh, this person seems nice" or "Oh, I should stay away from this person"; she analyzes them to see how easy it is to manipulate them. Yes, as cruel and terrible as it sounds, it comes as a natural talent for Kate. She has learned that people trust too easily, which allows her to gain their trust easily. Depending on the person's personality, Kate will conform to their needs, gaining their trust more easily, and therefore making it easier for her to manipulate them. Most of the time, Kate isn't even aware that she's manipulating people to her will, or that she's conforming her personality to fit important peoples' needs.

History:

Childhood:
On December 15th in the place previously known as Finland, Kate was born into this world with quite a heavy burden on her shoulders. She never knew her biological parents--actually no one, not even the doctors and nurses that delivered Kate into this world, knew who her parents were. They were anonymous, not even bothering to give their own child a name. The hospital orphanage that Kate lived in during her infancy gave her the name Kate Beasley, after one of the nurses that had tried for three days to get the name of her parents.
For the first five years of her life, Kate jumped from orphanage to orphanage, hoping to be adopted. She was taught how to walk, how to talk, and mannerisms from the caretakers at the orphanages. An elderly man, who somehow remembered the ancient language of Finnish, taught her a few sayings in Finnish, though she remembered only a few of them.
Everyone knew that there was something from with Kate from the beginning. She was anti-social and aloof, rarely participating in group activities with other orphans. She rarely made friends with the other children, and only talked to the caretakers of the orphanage whenever she needed something done. Caretakers assumed that it was just from the fact that Kate was constantly jumping from orphanage to orphanage, and had caught on to the fact that she probably wouldn't be staying long at the same place. Most people just brushed it off, thinking that it was nothing to be worried about.
Finally, at the age of six, Kate was adopted into the Ingram family. She now had a mother, a sweet lady named Camellia Jocelyn Ingram, a hard-working father named Ophir Robert Ingram, and an older sister named Keisha Bridgette Ingram. Despite being very happy for having a family for once, the living conditions weren't the best in the world. Kate grew up in a rough neighbourhood, where her adopted parents worked in the farming market, trying to make a living. They all lived in a rundown house with multiple other families, where living conditions were poor and illness ran amuck. Keisha was the only one who attended school, but she made sure to teach Kate as much as she could.
At the age of ten, Keisha passed away suddenly at the age of thirteen. Fearing that Kate would be dubbed as mentally unstable to live in an average environment, the Ingram family passed her off as their deceased daughter, who had successfully passed the test. Kate is forever grateful for that. The government accepted the story, even accepting the fabricated birth certificate that was created for Kate. After the fear of being pushed into the test, Kate began to work in an attempt to get to the place called the Pith.
Adolescent:
For four years, Kate worked hard to earn money. She worked mostly for the local newspaper company, where she earned a decent amount of money. Of course, she helped with the family bills and health problems. Her father ended up passing away at about the age of twelve, which made saving up money a bit harder than it originally was in the first place.
Finally, at the age of fourteen, Kate earned enough money to get a boat ride to the Pith. She left Camellia in her original homeland, knowing that her adopted mother was too ill to make a trip across the ocean. When Kate arrived at the Pith, she immediately heard of the Divided and joined, having never mentioned her abilities to anyone. She still hardly mentions her telekinesis abilities, as she knows that there are people watching her, waiting for her to slip up.

Heteroromantic asexual, nearly an aromantic asexual. She has no interest in dating, and is rarely attracted to a male to the point that she wants to date him.

Kate never knew her biological parents, but she had quite a close relationship with the Ingram family.
Siblings:
She has never found out if she has biological siblings and if they're alive. The only person that she used to consider a sibling was Keisha Bridgette Ingram, who was the main reason for being able to get past the Divided program.

When she was a child, other kids bullied her for being frightened of thunderstorms and having nervous breakdowns whenever a severe thunderstorm was going on.
