~~~Rune Horses~~~~
Long ago, herds of wild horses ran free across the lands. Evolution acted upon these early wild horses and created two distinct lines. The modern horse of today descends from the most recognized of these lines. The other lineage was thought to be lost, the only proof of these creatures to be poorly preserved fossils. Recently, however, a group of scientists exploring northern Scandinavian caves made a miraculous discovery- living horses! Word has spread that these animals are the long lost "hidden line" that evolution created.
Upon discovery, the group of scientists began to study these unique creatures. A paper released about a year after the initial discovery describes some of the unusual characteristics of these creatures.
Characteristics:
*Five legs
*Patterns resembling runes on every individual
*Mostly natural coat colors seen in modern horses
*Unnatural coat colors unseen in the modern horse: pink, purple, blue, ect.
*Rune patterns glow in dark areas/at night
*Magical powers
*Lifespan: unknown
Scientists also released information on the life style of this species as well.
Behaviors:
*Live in herds of up to ten individuals
*Habitat: caves and hidden grassy meadows
*Region: colder climates, Scandinavian areas, other regions: unknown.
*Herbivores
*Act like modern horses
*Exception: Stallions use glowing runes/magic to win mares
*Breeding occurs in the winter
*Foals born about a year later (commonly in the winter as well)
After the scientists' study was concluded (a.k.a lost interest), they left the area. However, many of these horses had become accustomed to human contact and ventured away from their homelands to find human company. Cities and towns soon found themselves overwhelmed by the number of animals. Adoption centers soon popped up and offered individuals a chance to own this new species.
~~~Adoption~~~
To adopt a Rune Horse, all you have to do is fill out a form on that Rune's page. Rune's up for adoption will have "Adopt Me" written on the image. More common runes will have simpler, easier forms, and will be up for adoption for a short time. Rare runes will most likely require a story or some kind of art. They will also have a longer adoption time so forms can be completed. You can only adopt one Rune every 14 days, and as of now, no limit to how many Runes you can own.
Forms should be filled out correctly, and have no extras such as color, pictures (unless specified), or different fonts.
For most runes, you will be able to choose what the runes on the horse say. Breedings and specialty Runes will have runes already on them.
~~~Mutations~~~
Mutations are common in Runes. They occur at the genetic level and can be a major or minor mutation. Mutations can appear at any stage of growth- foal, yearling, adult. Just because one stage doesn't show a mutation doesn't mean its not there. It may appear at a later stage. A Rune may have a mutation but it doesn't appear physically at any stage. The mutation is still there, and can be passed down to offspring.
Major mutations can include: missing a leg, addition of extras such as wings, feathers, antenna, internal changes, and more.
Minor mutations can include: new patterns, new coat colors, small extras such as gems, and more.
If a Rune has a mutation, it will be marked on its page.
~~~Breeding~~~
Rune Horses can be bred to produce a single foal. Twin Runes are rare, and in that case the mare usually has a mutation that allows her to carry two foals. For now, Runes will have 5 breeding slots each. I may increase this limit in the future.
Runes take 4 years (weeks) to mature from the foal stage to the adult stage. The yearling stage occurs at two weeks.
Breeding will not be available until I am sure that people are interested in this species and want to adopt and breed them. I am hoping that it will be available fairly quickly.
~~~Customs/Artists~~~
Since this is just starting out, I am looking for one other artist. I am also looking for someone interested in designing custom lines for this species. Customs will only be available to artists, mods, and other staff members. They will get to design their own Rune.
