I noticed something in the first episode.
They called Luna and Celestia Unicorns in the story.
I don't even.....

Alicorns Have Pegasus Wings And Unicorn Powers xD
They Said "The Older Sister Used Her UNICORN POWERS To Bring Up The Sun While The Younger Brought Out The Moon To Begin The Night"

But it also said "One faithful day, the younger UNICORN refused to lower the moon to make way for the dawn."

Well, have they ever even called ponies with wings and a horn alicorns in the series? I just realized that; I don't think they have... I suppose they could've used "the younger princess" instead of "unicorn," but then it seems like it would be very repetive.

Personally, I like Celestia better than Luna. And you're right, she needed to banish Luna because permanent night would definitely...well..."get rid of" everypony. Her threat was serious, and Celestia had to do what needed to be done.
Good thing they made up though ^^
