Log out of your account. Go to the 'adopt' page. Adopt a pet.

You now have an off-account, or accountless, pet.

Quick question, though. When adopting off-account, is it ok to use your real username, and then put that off-account pet in your signature or something? Every time I see someone's off-account pets, they have used a different name for their pets. (i hope that makes sense ). I've looked all over but I haven't found this asked anywhere. Thanks!

Yeah, you can do whatever you want with off-accounts. You can even trade them, though you HAVE to be ABSOLUTELY SURE the other person knows that the pet won't be attached to their account BEFORE the trade takes place.
