Love the crestie, is he fired up in the pic? If not, I'd love to see him fired up, must be a nice shade of yellow.
Also, I'd suggest getting a Photobucket rather than downloading the files directly to the site. o3o

Okumura Rin wrote:I'm not really sure why, but everytime I try to get my geckos to eat mealworms, or smaller crickets instead of the usual larger crickets they refuse to eat them...

And it's also sad because evry day when I put 4-6 crickets in there, Ragnarok eats all but one and leaves Crona to fight for the last one. Now Ragnarok is ridiculously fat and Crona is... not unhealthily skinny, but skinny. So now we gotta take Ragnarok out while Crona eats...

Buy a plastic bin, and feed them separately outside the tank. I house all my lizards separate and still do this, because I don't want feeders running around. They may not know to catch the feeders at first while in the bin, and that's okay. After 15 minutes or so put them back in their tank and then save the feeders for later if there are any left over

Ivalynfyre wrote:It's official. Honey has taken a dump on me the most. At least four times! In two weeks! I might start giving him warm bathes to get him to poop before handling him.

This always works for my lizards. They look forward to it, and once they poo, then I know I'm about 99% safe from being pooped on for a good day. I'm not sure how an arboreal gecko like that would react in a bath though, so let us know how it goes or if you find info on it.

Crum wrote:He seems fine with mealworms, I don't think crickets are needed. I just fed him the calcium worms and he ate all of them in like a minute! I went to fill up his spray bottle and they were gone when I came bak xD
he is still healthy, he is nice and plump and sheds much easier than he used to.(btw, Dustin is about 6 inches, he is still young and not full grown, not sure exactly how old he is)

Would you live off something like cheerios for your whole life? No. They can be okay to eat from time to time, but you can't live off them, because they aren't very nutritious. Mealworms are essentially cheerios for lizards. The link above will give you facts on why mealworms make a very poor diet for leos. If you don't like the sound they make, then put them somewhere else like the garage or bathroom. When keeping above 5000 mine were kept in the garage, and when keeping less I put them in the mud room. Better yet, order feeders that don't make noise. Roaches make no sound, and neither do phoenix worms, silk worms, horm worms, butter worms, and wax worms. If Dustin is a juvenile then you need to be feeding him everyday, and it needs to be quality food, not mealworms.

Ivalynfyre wrote:Mealworms' shells are pretty hard, I heard they can cause impaction. Is he pooping well? I'd just give him crickets, I don't think they're any harder than mealworms to obtain.
Speaking of getting feeder insects, where do you buy yours? I think Honey would appreciate some crickets, and I'd like to see how a slow little guy like him goes after 'em.

Also, I know this is the lizard thread, but UGH. Some of the ads on Craigslist! I just saw someone selling a 3ft red tail boa.. being kept in a 10 gallon. I put my 3 ft BP in an empty 10 gallon so I could look under the glass and get some belly scale pics, and he was cramped. XD

I buy mine at a local shop when I feel like housing crickets(boxes of 2500). After the mass die off from a few years ago I switched to feeding mostly dubia, butter worms, and silk worms. The roaches are bought from a local hobbyist that breeds, and the worms come from Mulberry Farms.

There are different kinds of crickets. You just need to find the wingless ones.

You can buy silent crickets, but I find there's always one or two noisy buggers in there!

You can always order them Online!.

I have to ask, is it alright for my basilisk lizard to eat pinkies? Or any type of frozen mice?

If he is big enough to safely eat them, then a pinky once or twice a week will add variety to his diet. I wouldn't get anything larger than pinkies though, and make sure they are fully defrosted. I always stuck my feeders in the fridge the night before, and then before feeding I dunked them in bowl of boiling water for a minute or so to warm them up.
