Mason kept walking until he felt it was safe. He walked to an area where the trees made a covering. He gently propped Hayley against a large tree and sat next to her.

Hayley turned her head to look at him, "I never told you my name.. did I?" she said, blinking.

I followed, hand in hoodie pocket. I missed the feel of the knife. It made me feel safer, but I'd left it god knows where in the woods.

I inspected my nails, chipping a bit of dirt off them. The hawk was still there. I didn't look at it. Maybe there was a mouse around or something.
