Dear TJ
I spotted the girl with her mouth have open from her yell. I gasped for air again and looked back at the scarred dude, hoping he would listen to her.
"But Ana-" he began
"Let her Go! Can't you see she's dying!" cried out the girl, her brown eyes flickering with anger.
Reluctantly, the dog let me go, I crumpled into a heap of fur, feeling weak. The sudden intake of air made my chest hurt, but it was better than not being able to breath. Once I regained my breath, the girl helped me up.
"thanks" I croaked, my throat feeling sore.
"No problem" she said with a smile.
"But we're still taking her with us." growled her brother, before stalking off, his gang following.
"I hope my brother doesn't mean that." murmured the girl. "His name is Antonio and my name is Ana"
I smooth out my wrinkled jacket, "My name Is Dark Rose, you can call me Rose."
We started following Antonio and his gang, "Dark Rose? that's a pretty name." Ana said with a smile.
"I guess it is, My mom wanted to call me Rose, but it seemed odd with my dark-colored fur, so my parents settled on Dark Rose." I said with a shrug.
We followed Antonio through the city, following a road but sometimes changing direction. After a while we walked out of the city and followed a long road with the occasional car driving by. After a while we came to a small town, I could tell it was home to poorer dogs because the clothes they wore were ragged, the roofs on the houses were made of metal scraps, and the kids would go up to Antonio saying : "Un bocadito?" which means: "A little food?"
Antonio pulled out a half of a hamburger for them and the kid's eyes glowed with happiness before darting off to their mother. I felt sadness pierce my heart, I was complaining how my life was a dump while they're struggling to live. I felt selfish, so selfish. Right at that moment I stuffed my hand in my pack and handed Antonio my 200 dollars. He looked at me in surprise, eyes wide.
"For the town." I whispered.
"Are you sure?" he asked, eyeing the money.
I pushed the money into his paws, "I'm sure."
He smiled then began going house to house, splitting the money so everyone could have some. One of the kids who asked for some food saw the money with wide eyes, suddenly he ran to me and wrapped his skinny arms around my waist.
"Gracias" (thanks) he murmured.
