The scientist re-entered the room with one of his collegues a few minutes later--one carrying a small case and the other a dart gun. Alex looked at them, furious. They'd never make him do anything. Then, a panel on the wall opened and one scientist began pushing buttons and pulling a lever. A loud noise came from behind as more panels opened up along the walls. Alex tensed. Strange machines were in the walls--what were they doing? He didn't have much time to react. Some of the panels started flying at him, and the machines began shooting chains, large boulders, and fireballs.
Alex ran, dodging the panels and avoiding the chains. Would they really go this far for science? A chain flew in front of him, nearly causing him to fall. He leapt from side to side, ducked, and jumped trying to avoid the boulders and flying panels. Glancing back at the two men, Alex knew they wouldn't stop until they were satisfied. He was getting frustrated. A ball of flame nearly struck Alex and then a panel knocked him to the ground--another coming straight for him. He had no choice, he had to teleport across the room. Just when he'd reach safety, another panel or chain would cause Alex to fall or would block his path, and he'd have to teleport before he was hit again. This went on for nearly a half an hour, and Alex was getting tired--constant teleportation made him dizzy. When a chain suddenly struck Alex on the shoulder, the first scientist pushed the lever back in place and turned off the machines.
Alex lay on the floor, grasping his shoulder, as the two men approached. He didn't bother resisting. They checked his blood pressure, his breathing, and his heart rate. "Well, that's good. Everything is normal," one said. "It's time to go back now." Alex was too tired to move. He let the second scientist open his small case, pull out a full seringe and administer the drug. Everything then became blurred as the room seemed to spin, and then deep darkness.
