Owner Name:Geode
Name:Faunus (after the Roman god of the forests, which you can read about
here)
Gender: Male
Personality:Faunus is a generally shy and cautious Rune Dragon. He prefers to remain in his Woodlands and keeps to himself most of the time. He is a lover, not a fighter. He enjoys looking at the clouds and day-dreaming. Faunus also can be curious and likes to investigate new or unusual things in the forest. He has a few close friends (asides from the bugs he plays with in the summer), to whom he is very loyal and enjoys giving advice to. Despite his youthful appearance, Faunus is actually very old and very wise. He will always take time to listen to your problems and offer advice and encouragement.
Why do you wish to have him:While writing various short stories to accompany my characters, I decided to write about the history of one of the areas that they live in: The Great Woodlands. I later decided to create a separate story altogether, writing it like a legend that proves to be true in my other characters' story. This is due to the character that I hope this Rune Dragon will represent: the deity of the Woodlands. I would like this particular Rune Dragon because he appears perfect for the part, and even the personality fits what I had in mind.
Where will you keep him:I will keep him with the information regarding my other characters (not yet posted on CS) and possibly in my signature. In my writing and art, he will appear in his Woodlands.
Would you like to breed him in the feature:With permission, I would like to breed him if I manage to adopt another Rune Dragon that can represent the lover of Faunus in the legend I am working on. I do not yet know how any offspring would play into the story, so I may also choose to not breed him to avoid confusion.
Any Quarks:Faunus is rather shy and a dreamer. He can be cautious of strangers in his Woodlands, but once they earn his trust then he will be a very loyal friend. Contrary to his typically cautious nature he can be curious, which gets him into trouble occasionally.
Other:Here is a rough outline of how the legend goes so far:
Faunus and Caelestis (Fact: Caelestis – from the Roman middle Imperial period, the title Caelestis, "Heavenly" or "Celestial" is attached to several goddesses embodying aspects of a single, supreme Heavenly Goddess.) were each the child of some powerful deity in the Ethos Realm. The Realm was ruled by one High Deity and one Advisor. It was tradition that the Advisor was the High Deity's spouse, so that if the High Deity was removed from power (by death, exile, retirement, or other reasons) then the throne would pass onto the most eligible and relatable deity. If both the High Deity and the Advisor were to retire, they would begin to search for heirs (indicating that the heir did not necessarily have to be the child of the ruling deities). This was the case of Faunus. He was the most obvious choice as heir to the throne. Therefore, it would be almost certain that Caelestis would be the Advisor. Now, there was a child of the current ruling deities:
Invidia. She wanted the throne desperately and was willing to do anything to get it. So, she set out a devious plot the night before the Announcement of Heirs ceremony. She offered a poisoned drink to Caelestis, who drank it. When she collapsed, Invidia went to Faunus and told him that Caelestis was ill and would die if she did not receive a healing herb from the deepest forests on Earth. Faunus knew that if a deity were to leave the Ethos Realm, they would renounce their position in the Realm and be bound to Earth forever upon the morning of the following day (which in this case would be the day of the Announcement of Heirs). But he loved Caelestis deeply and went to find the herb anyway. Invidia thought that Faunus would be too late to save Caelestis, but just as the sun crested the horizon Faunus returned and gave Caelestis the herb. She was saved, but the lovers were separated for eternity. At the Announcement of Heirs ceremony, the ruling deities could no longer offer Faunus or Caelestis the ruling position. However, they did not offer it to Invidia either because Caelestis was able to expose her plot. Caelestis wanted to go to Earth to be with Faunus, but she was too weak from the poison to do so. Feeling sorry for the Faunus and Caelestis, the ruling deities allowed them to take on physical forms so that they might be closer. So Faunus took the form of the forest that he found the herb in, while Caelestis took the form of the sky, which looked upon the planet that her lover was bound to. Although they may not touch, you will always see Faunus' trees reaching up towards the sky anyway as a testament to their love.
If I can adopt this Rune Dragon, I will alter the legend to include this form as well (which will become his more common appearance) and possibly add something about the acorn necklace as well. Not sure how it will all come together, but I am very hopeful with this one!
