That golden glint was what caught me at first. How could it not? His eyes were deep, soulful. I looked at my own in the mirror, and felt as if they were lesser in comparison. His held the scars of the battefield, the ones that were not physical, but emotional. They had depths, and they were like windows to his soul.
My eyes were a simple one-tone colour. Teal. Bland, boring, nothing. They did not hold the sparkle that his did when he was happy, or the shadows when he was sad, or the fire when he was angry. They did not shine, nor did they have depths. His were like windows to the soul; Mine were like brick walls to nothing.

He's a self-conscious one. I can tell by the way he presents himself. He thinks he isn't as great as everybody else. Despite the fact that he's handsome and intelligient. He's shy. Again, I can tell. Whenever I look at him, he looks away. It's almost like he doesn't want me to see him, like he doesn't want to burden my eyes with his presence. Little does he know, he intrigues me. I try to talk to him, but he doesn't say much. Shy. Unlike me. It's hard, but I'm determined. I want to be his friend. I don't know what drew me to him - perhaps the bold, in-your-face-but-in-a-good-way colour of those lovely eyes - but I have been curious about him since the day I first laid eyes on him.
Hopefully I can get him to talk, even for a little while.

Things Happen

Image
Pet's name: Taylor "Yeah, I helped her. I didn't do it for fame, or love, or any of that crap. I did it because I care about her."
Image
Pet's name: Kallie "He hurt me, I guess. He said things that weren't right. I guess I started to believe him."
Image
Pet's name: Danger "It's not like she matters anyways. She's just another person in the universe."
It's highschool. I mean, who doesn't get teased every now and again? That's how it works. But some things go beyond teasing. They seem real, almost part of you. It shouldn't matter. But it does. They say those things to degrade you. Sometimes, they don't even mean them. Things happen.
We were walking to art. It was a normal day. We were all there, the teacher was overwhelmed. It happens.
And then I saw her. She was perfect. Always happy, and always vulnerable
So here's what happened: Danger started saying things, stupid things that I shouldn't believe, like calling me fat, stupid, crud like that, and yeah, I started crying. It hurt. A lot. And then, I just kind of shut it all out, and Hannah told him to shut up and whatnot, but that didn't stop him at all. Every time I looked up, I could see Taylor shaking his head, and it looked like it was hurting him almost as much as it was me. Then Danger made some remark about him hating me, so Taylor got really pissed of, so he told him to shut up. That still didn't work, but Danger's remarks were getting slower. So Taylor went and said to Laurner, the buffest boy in our class, "You need to help me, and tell Danger to stop saying that stuff." Laurner didn't listen, cause, duh, he's Laurner, with his big opinion of himself. So after, I was just sobbing and trying to avoid everyone, but that didn't really work, so I walked with them and listened to them laugh and stuff, and then the classroom door opens and Taylor comes out into the hallway, still shaking his head, and he said, "Don't worry. I'll take care of it." I was like, yeah, right, cause I didn't believe him. Taylor isn't my real friend, so why would he do that for me? But back in class, during book reports, he's in the middle of the room, and I catch eye contact with him, and he mouths "We got it taken care of." I nodded and mouthed, "Thanks", even though I had no clue what they'd done, no clue that they'd taken the bully behind the school and hit him, hurt him just as much as he hurt me. But things happen.
We took him out back. We got Christina. Christina always wears high heels. Just what we needed. Mike and I, we each held one of his arms, grabbed one of his legs, held him open in his vulnerable position. Christina kicked him where it counts, right there, where girls should never kick a boy. Then she turned and walked away. Mike and I dropped Danger to the ground. He clutched at the pain, but Mike and I laughed, and I punched his arm. Hard. Sucks for you, Danger. Then, when we were walking away, I couldn't help myself. I ran back to him and pushed him over.
He got suspended. They never said why. I'm glad to know that he got suspended to protect me. Danger hasn't ever talked to me again. Not since what he did. I'm glad. Every time I walk by Taylor's house, I wave to him. And last night, when I walked by, he was outside. He took me to the backyard, and he said he had something special for me. When we where hidden by vines, he kissed me. I miss him. Every day I walk by, I get a kiss, so I guess it's worth it.

Two lives intertwined together.
Two loves woven deep in their souls.
One story to share
Of the love they both bear,
But that's where the sameness ends.
One story to split,
To fork off and to rip,
Leaving two tales to thrive or to rend.
It's not that the two tales are different,
Both stories have love that burns strong.
But while one can repair,
The other despairs
Leaving broken pieces behind.

Life can be sweet.
Life can be cruel.
There are so many paths one can take.

~Broken Words~

The day was bright and glorious outside; perfect weather to be out and having fun. Yet a young couple kept shelter from the light, hiding away in a small apartment that had been plunged into darkness. It was well into the afternoon, but the two were curled up on a lonely reclining chair. The only sounds were the low tumble of the dryer in another room, and the twosome's gentle breathing.

They seemed a bit of an unmatched couple, as they appeared very much opposites. He had the look of a troublemaker, someone who gave little care to what happens in life. His eyes, red and odd in their beauty, had a spark that was eager for excitement and laughter. His dark hair was tousled carelessly, although in all honesty much care had been put in how it was tousled. He was a fire that people poked to burn brighter, than ran from to avoid the thrashing flames.

She seemed much more soft hearted and timid. She gave off a sense of innocence that was both genuine and a false image. Her blue eyes were not gems of soothing grace, but were rather more child-like and playful. Her hair cascaded in long waves of sandy blonde, with bangs painted evening colors: orange, violets, and blues. She was a friendly and welcoming girl, but there was something off reach about her. She was the moon, always there and always encouraging, but strangely frightening.

“Tell me,” Edan finally broke the near silence, holding the girl's face in his hands. He had that childish look on his face again, the one Zelenia adored. It was the one that made teasing him all the too tempting.

“Hmm.... Nah,” Zelenia grinned. The way she saw it, it was his fault for being so endearing.
“Come on,” he whined, one arm wrapping tighter around the girl as he buried his head against her neck.
“And why should I tell you?” she countered with a devilish twitch of her eyebrows.
He paused for a moment, then flashed a dorky grin and responded, “Because you love me.”
Zelenia narrowed her eyes and puffed out her cheeks. “Now that's not fair,” she grumbled, “using my love against me?”

Edan's smirk only widened, eagerly awaiting for her to spill her secret. Still, Zelenia kept her same mock-annoyed expression. “Please?” the male pleaded, allowing his grin to fall into a pout. The girl's lip twitched, but she somehow managed to remain otherwise unresponsive.

Edan hung his head in defeat, or at least that's how it first seemed.

His fingers danced along Zelenia's sides, tickling the poor girl relentlessly. “St-stop!” She cried out, trying her best to push the boy off without hurting him. “Edan!” She called out once more as she tumbled off the tottering chair.
Swiftly, Edan grabbed around Zelenia's waist, rolling with her so that the girl fell on to him instead of on the floor. Aside from a small 'oaf' from the couple, both turned out fine from the fall.

“Tell me,” Edan whispered, his red gaze fixed calmly on her blue one and their noses touching.
Zelenia dropped into silence, relaxed by the sound of his heart thudding in his chest. “Okay,” she breathed and pressed a gentle kiss against his lips. “I got a new job.”

“Really?”
“Yes,” Zelenia grinned excitedly.
“I'm so proud of you Zele,” Edan gave her a congratulatory kiss.

Zelenia giggled, feeling pretty proud of herself as well. All the information of her new job gushed forward, as if she had been bursting to tell him about it all. She shared how worried she had been when she had missed their call, and how sure she was that she hadn't gotten the job. According to the girl, she had nearly died when they told her she had gotten the job.

“I'm not sure how well I'm gonna manage to balance work and college though,” she sighed.
“You'll do fine Zele,” Edan nuzzled the girl's cheek.
Zelenia smiled, snuggling closer to the boy. It was a short lived calm however, as her phone suddenly started blasting from inside her pocket.

“Dang it,” she cursed, “Gotta go.”
“You coming over tomorrow?” Edan asked, trying not to show that he was disappointed she had to leave. It wasn't really something he could control, after all.
Zelenia placed her hands behind his neck and pulled his lips to hers. “Of course,” she beamed.

“Love you,” she rubbed her nose against his.
“Love you too.”.

Kayla(♀)****************************************************************Dyce(♀)

But what they
fail to tell you
is that you
might like it...

Kayla Montgomery walked down the street towards school with a group of her friends. They walked close together, sharing the latest gossip, their voices low. Their conversation was only interrupted by occasional fits of giggles. Kayla was a stereotypical popular girl. She had long brown hair and eyes that were in between golden brown and hazel. She wore all the latest trends and hung out with the other popular girls. Life hadn’t always been that way for Kayla though. In middle school she’d had a hard time fitting in anywhere. She was too smart to be one of the popular kids, but not smart enough to fit in with the geeks so she spent most of middle school as a loner; content to hang out in the library and just pass time until the end of the day.

The summer between 8th and 9th grade she had grown up and matured into a very pretty young lady. She was shocked when she started high school and was finally accepted into the popular crowd. Even though she didn’t always agree with the way they treated people, she was so happy to finally belong that she let it slide.

Now halfway through their junior year her group of friends often talked about how great it would be to be seniors and rule the campus. That morning though, their conversation was centered around the new girl who had started the day before. Kayla rolled her eyes as her friends swapped theories about who she was and who she would end up hanging out with.

“I heard, that she got kicked out of her last school for stabbing someone.”

“Stabbing? I thought she shot someone?”

“No, I don’t think its any of that. But I do know she’s been in Juvi before. I’m pretty sure she’s adopted, or in foster care, or something like that.”

“You guys,” Kayla huffed, pulling her fur lined hoodie up around her neck farther to block out the cold wind “I seriously doubt she would be allowed in school if she shot, or stabbed anyone….or had been in Juvi. And who cares if she’s adopted or in foster care. Shouldn’t we just wait to meet her before we start talking about her?”

Her friends all regarded her for a second and silence settled over the group as they considered the fact that she might be right. Then they started chattering again all at once, the moment of clarity forgotten.

“Amber told me that Jackson already asked her out and she said no, that’s she likes girls.”

Kayla sighed. She liked her friends most of the time, but sometimes she wished they would put the gossip aside just for a while. She tuned out the chattering voices around her and looked up the street towards school and that’s when she saw her. She figured it must be the new girl because she hadn’t seen her before.

She was leaning against a light pole outside of the front gate and looked like she would rather be anywhere else in the world but standing there. She was dressed in dark clothes with black fingerless gloves. Her hair was cut short everywhere except her bangs, which were long enough to hang over one eye and down past her chin and was dyed an odd shade of black that had an almost silver sheen to it. She reached up to run her hand though her hair and Kayla noticed a thin silver bracelet on her wrist and had the odd compulsion to ask what it was. Her groups chatter got quieter as they got closer to the new girl and eventually turned into silence as they warily walked past her. Kayla wanted to stop and say hello but didn’t want to leave the comfort of her group, so she just glanced back at the girl as they walked by. She noticed and raised one eyebrow in Kayla’s direction. Kayla smiled then quickly looked away, but not before noticing that the girls eyes were a breath taking shade of green.

“Oh my god, did you see how she dresses?” Her friends chatter picked right back up as soon as they were on campus.

“Yes! And that hair. What color is that anyhow?”

Kayla tuned them out until they got to the group of tables where they always hung out. She started to drop her backpack, but decided she needed some quiet time.

“Hey guys, I’ll see you at snack. I have some homework to finish before first period.”

“Aw, alright, that’s what you get for taking honors classes.” One of them called after her. She laughed and waved bye over her shoulder. Even though she fit in with the popular girls, she hadn’t given up her honors classes and still got straight A’s. None of her friends were in any of her classes with her except for PE, and she was okay with it.

She wandered to her first period English class and her mind kept drifting back to the new girl. She didn’t know why, but she wanted to try to get to know her. She changed her mind about homework and headed back towards the entrance to the campus, hoping to find the girl still standing there. She didn’t make it to the front gate because she turned a corner and almost ran face first into the new girl.

“Oh…geez..I’m…I didn’t mean to….sorry.” She stammered as she backed up a few steps. The girl regarded her with a guarded smile and slowly raised her eyebrow.

“Hm, who knew. I thought your kind only traveled in packs.”

“Huh?”

“You know, the popular girls. The pretty ones who never go anywhere by themselves for fear that they might run into someone uglier or not as popular as them and get kidnapped or something.”

Kayla wrinkled her eyebrows together and tilted her head at the girl and she laughed.

“What’s the matter? Can’t come up with a comeback on your own?”

“No…I’m just trying to figure out why you feel the need to judge me so harshly when I haven’t even said anything to you yet other than sorry for running into you.”

The girl hesitated for a second, debating the sincerity behind the statement.

“Oh please, like you haven’t already judged me. You were in that group of giggling airheads that walked past me at the gate this morning. What’s the latest rumor?”

“That you’ve stabbed someone, shot someone, spent time in Juvi, and like girls.”

The girl barely held back a laugh.

“Really?”

“Yup, at least, that’s what I’ve heard. I try not to judge someone before I know them.” Kayla winked and the girl ducked her head slightly.

“Want to start over?” Kayla asked with a smile. “My name is Kayla.”

“I’m Dyce”

“Dice?”

“Yes, but not the way you are thinking. Its spelled with a Y.”

“Ah, Dyce. That’s different. Is it short for something?”
“Nope, just Dyce. Anyhow, I’m gonna go. I wouldn’t want any of your friends to see you talking to me and ban you from the pretty and popular club.”

Kayla was about to respond but Dyce turned and walked down the hall quickly and she decided to just let it go. She turned and headed towards her first period class and slide into her seat just as the bell rang. The teacher took a few minutes taking roll and was about to start class when the door swung open.

“Nice of you to decide to join us. I will let it slide because it is your first day in this class, but tardiness is not acceptable in my class room. Come take a seat up front.” The teacher spoke to whoever was coming into class and gestured to the seat next to Kayla.

“I don’t think of it as tardy, I like to think of it as fashionably late.” Dyce said with a wink at Kayla as she slide into desk. Kayla tried to keep the look of shock off her face, but failed.

“What’s the matter? Weren’t expecting me in your little honors class?”

“Not exactly, no.”

“Well, there is a lot about me you would never expect.” She said quietly, her voice taking on a harsh edge. Kayla tried to read the emotion that flashed across her face but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. She opened her mouth to respond, but the teacher started talking and they both shifted their attention to the front of the class for the rest of the period.

More? And to the person who asked, yes, they are both girls...tho i think that is obvious now lol :)

The Messenger & The Lighthouse Keeper
Good journey love,
time to go.
I checked your teeth
and warmed your toes.
In the horizon
I see them coming for you..

Lea had to admit, she was rather amused that her old, stolen lantern had been kept, and was now perched just above where she and Eustace sat. Between the lantern light, the full moon, and the tower's light itself, he had expressed complete confidence in actually being able to see what he was doing, though he had warned her of the possibility of a jab or two if his hand slipped.

"Why do you have lockpicks, anyway?" Lea asked, resisting the urge to look back at Eustace. He had stressed the importance of remaining still- not only could it risk harming one of them, but it could cause the pick to break, which would both inconvenience him and nearly completely ruin all future chance of Lea getting the collar off.

"Just in case," he replied, shifting his hands sightly as he worked. "If a door gets stuck, if I ever come across some locked chest or journal or something." Eustace paused for a moment, and added in a voice barely above a whisper. "And... well, for whatever reason, I just lose keys. A lot."

Lea giggled slightly, though she immediately silenced herself when she felt her shoulders shake. "You lose keys... yet you're able to keep track of an entire set of lockpicks?"

"Hey, keys are plenty easy to replace. Replacing a pick is difficult, and it gets you a bunch of funny looks," he said with a slight laugh. "I mean, there's plenty of legitimate uses, but no, everyone thinks you're going to try and break into their house."

"It's wartime," Lea said. "People will be suspicious, you can't really blame them for that, can you?"

"I guess not," Eustace replied, his voice soft. "Especially around here, I guess... everyone's paranoid."

"How come?" she asked.

Eustace was silent for some moments following that, all that could be heard was the quiet sound of the picks moving within the lock.

"The Empire's bent on conquering everything," he finally said. "They've taken just about all of the north, they took that... canyon place, and it sounds like they're taking the islands now. And they've had it out for Utopia since it was first formed."

"Utopia?"

"Really old word... it means 'no place'. It was founded by people who resisted the Empire, those who managed to escape. It was back before the Empire was even a proper empire, I've heard, they didn't have much land. The people who found this place... they called it a sign from god. Somewhere perfect and beautiful and safe. So they dug themselves in, and... well, I guess it was inevitable," he sighed, pausing his work.

"You want to remain free," Lea said, turning to look at him. "A perfectly noble cause."

Eustace nodded, smiling slightly. "If it means anything, Utopia's never... engaged in slave practice or anything," he said. "We were the cast-offs of the Empire, their old slaves and servants, it'd just be a thousand levels of wrong to do anything like that."

Lea gave a slight nod and turned away as Eustace took up the picks, and once again tried to undo the collar's lock.

"How do you think the fighting will go?" she asked after a few moments, staring out the great glass windows of the tower room to the starry sky outside. Her voice was soft and despite her stillness and the relative warmth of the mid-spring night, Lea felt a slight chill creep up her body. She'd done so well avoiding the thought, just trying to pretend the war was somewhere else, that she was completely removed from it and would never see it again, but... she had to ask, to voice those fears that still lingered in her mind.

"Badly," Eustace whispered. "We've got the strongest mages on the continent, but they've got numbers. The best we can do is just... hold them back until everything's so ruined it's not worth taking any more, or the last Utopian dies. And I'd put my money on it being the latter, the Empire would still try to claim this land even if was a wasteland, and there's no way in hell we'll ever agree to any sort of surrender or treaty with them."

"I see," Lea said, casting her gaze to the gray floor below her.

"Well. That's just what I'm trying to prepare for," Eustace said after a few moments, gently touching Lea's shoulder in a comforting manner. "I told you, we do have the strongest mages on the entire continent, and everyone who fights does so because they love their land and want to see it free. I'm pretty sure a fair portion of the Empire's army can't say that. And there's always turncoats... I just keep the lights running, I don't know much about war," he said with a weak laugh. It turned into a jubilant one a moment later though, after a rather loud click sound.

"What was that?" Lea asked, barely daring to hope that it might really be...

"Got it!" Eustace cried out, gently prying the metal tongue of the collar out of the lock. The steel band crashed to the floor moments later, and Lea could barely believe it. She took it into her hands, examined it, the traces of blood and wear and tear that had come to it over the past ten years, and felt the coolness of the air on the scarred flesh where it had been for so long.

"You... you got it," she finally whispered. No more tightness whenever she moved her head, no bite of cold metal in the dead of winter, no lingering trace of that horrible, heavy feeling that had prevented her from shifting since the day she had been caught. "Thank you!" Lea cried out, whirling around, the grin on Eustace's face matching the one on her own. The two embraced, but it lasted only a moment, for Lea pulled away and took several steps back, just to see if she really could change, even after so long being confined to her human form.

She closed her eyes and began the process of relaxing, of feeling her body shift and twist into a smaller shape, the covering of soft feathers and long wings. If she had lips, Lea would have smiled when she opened her eyes. She cocked her head to the side and looked up at Eustace, who shouted and stumbled backwards in shock.

"Holy... you- you really did that?!" he exclaimed.

Lea nodded, shaking her head and stretching her wings. It had to have been a shock for her dear friend, watching her change from woman to albatross in a matter of seconds, but she was sure he'd get over it. Rather awkwardly (she had never been good at walking as a bird, and her years out of this form only made it worse), she moved down the stairs, her wings half-spread for balance. She could hear Eustace following behind, and about halfway down, she felt him carefully pick her up into his arms.

"Look, I'm sure you're excited, but you're not running down the stairs like that," he said, giving her an unamused look. Lea gave a soft warble of gratitude as Eustace carried her the rest of the way, until they were outside. She was only dimly aware of him saying something as he set her down, but she didn't catch the actual words. She took off towards the beach, and after several clumsy failed attempts, finally managed to get herself airborne.

The rush of damp air, the warmth of the ground billowing up under her wings, the thrill of those dead falls of cold air- the islands weren't her home, this was, the very sky itself! Lea trilled and whistled loudly, spiraling higher and higher into the night sky, farther out to sea, until the lighthouse was a distant shape on the horizon.

She was free, that thought rang through her mind like nothing had before. She was free, she could go wherever she wanted. She could stay a bird, hide in remote locations, safe and far away from any who might want to reclaim her... but could she? For the first time, she had something on the mainland. She had Eustace- she couldn't even call him a friend any more, he had become something far more important, and she would bet her very freedom that he was feeling the same.

The sound of a ship bell below her broke Lea out of her thoughts, and it only took a moment for her to make up her mind. She dove and turned, heading back to the shore. Her landing upon arrival was almost as clumsy as her takeoff, and she shifted the second her feet were on the sand. Eustace was nearby, though his back was to her, and he seemed to be staring out towards the forest. Lea ran towards him and threw her arms around him, still breathless with the exhilaration of her flight.

Eustace cried out in surprise, turning to face her, and Lea felt a brief pang of sorrow when she saw his face, it was clear that he had shed a few tears.

"I..."

"I was just stretching my wings," Lea whispered.

"But you can fly, you... you can go, you can be safe," Eustace said, though he held her just as tightly as she held him.

"Not if it means leaving you behind," Lea said firmly, pulling away just enough so she could touch his cheek, wet with fresh tears.

They stood in silence for several long moments, until Eustace finally seemed to regain his composure.

"I... I thought I had seen something out there," he added, gesturing towards the trees. "It just looked like an animal though, probably a deer, they're usually around this time of year. A... anyway," he said, clearing his throat. "We should..."

"Yeah," Lea said with a slight laugh, glancing back to the lighthouse. She took his hand as they made their way back inside and up the tower. At the top of the stairs she paused, a small smile on her lips as she turned to Eustace.

"I just wanted to thank you again," she said softly. With that, she leaned close and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek.

"You're welcome," Eustace said, and Lea was amused to note that his voice seemed to have risen to something resembling a squeak, and his face seemed quite red.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lea. Lea, get up. Now!"

Lea groaned as she felt a strong pull on her arm and heard Eustace's voice, which seemed... off, low and rough. She had gone to bed early, the previous night's events having completely worn her out, had she slept into the next evening? No, the sun was shining brightly through the windows, it seemed it wasn't even midday yet.

She looked at Eustace, and became immediately awake when she saw his expression- he was terrified. A sharp knock at the door made her jump, and she quickly got to her feet, standing close beside Eustace.

"It can't-"

"The tower. Break the window if you have to, just fly. Get to the city, or... or anywhere, you just have to fly. Now!" Eustace hissed, pushing her towards the stairs. "I'll hold them off."

Lea took only one final look at Eustace before doing as he said, only just disappearing from sight when she heard the door open.

"Is there something you need?" That was Eustace's voice. The reply, however, sent such a wave of fear through Lea, she thought she might simply freeze up right there on the stairs.

"You were seen in the company of a sylph woman, identified as a soldier who went missing six months ago. Harboring a runaway is a criminal offense, boy, I hope you were aware of that!" The voice of her old commander, the man who had bought her and made her into a messenger. The man who would take any reason to execute a 'difficult' slave.

Lea hear nothing after that, she was too high up. She did not go to the light room, though, instead she ducked into the floor just below, a room that housed the often-cursed bell and an opening that led up to the outer walkway around the light room, usually used just to clean the windows.

Lea froze when she heard clattering and shouting below her, and the sounds of people racing up the stairs. One shout, one incredibly pained shout, she could swear belonged to Eustace, but there was no time to be sure. She sprinted to the doorway, just as a soldier burst through into the bell room. The soldier chased her up the outer stairs, and the moment Lea reached the outer rim, she ran towards the rail and threw herself over it.

The soldier cried out, first in shock, then to bark out orders to shoot when Lea shifted, raising her wings and rising into the sky, only just having manged to save herself from completely crashing onto the ground. She wasn't even sure what direction she was traveling in, where she would go. She just needed to fly, fly and not look back. Fly and pray that no harm would come to Eustace.
------

How long had she been flying, a day? More than that, she had flown into a night and into a day, and now the sun was setting once again. She had frequently changed direction, in case she was being followed, but she knew she had to land and find rest soon, or she would simply drop out of the sky and die from the impact, and if not impact, she was facing severe starvation.

She banked and glided on a draft of warm air, taking a moment to really look at where she was. The coast was once again visible, along with something else... something new. A city? Yes, a city rose up ahead of her, and for the first time in two days, she felt a spark of hope. He'd told her to get to the city... this had to be it, just had to be.

The moon had risen by the time Lea reached the city. She slowly spiraled down towards a large, open area- a marketplace? There were several stalls that held various goods, and better still- people! A few of those people stopped and stared at her, immediately clearing away when she landed and promptly collapsed onto the stone road, using her last reserve of strength to shift back into human form.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Another sylph, can you believe it?'

'The collar's gone, too, that's a first.'

'Think she'll make it?'

'Pro- hey, she's waking up!'

Lea groaned softly, struggling to open her eyes. As her vision cleared, she saw that she was in a small, pale green room decorated with rather pretty but bland pictures. A window was nearby, flooding the room with bright sunlight. And she seemed to be in a bed, with two women standing beside it- one of whom had scars on her neck.

"You're safe here," the scarred one said in a soothing tone, and despite all her fear and pain, Lea smiled at the familiar accent.

"Utopia welcomes all sylphs. We'll keep them from taking you back."

When you are born,” the golem said
softly, “your courage is new and clean.

You are brave enough for anything:
crawling off of staircases, saying your

first words without fearing that someone
will think you are foolish, putting strange

things in your mouth. But as you get
older, your courage attracts gunk, and

crusty things, and dirt, and fear, and
knowing how bad things can get and

what pain feels like. By the time you’re
half-grown, your courage barely moves

at all, it’s so grunged up with living. So
every once in awhile, you have to scrub

it up and get the works going, or else
you’ll never be brave again.

Journey x Pinkz

POV of Journey
I had lost my car keys today and had to walk to school. I was one of the most popular kids at school and without my car, I was nothing. The worst thing that would happen is that Pinkz would see me. Pinkz. What a striking beauty she was. Boy did I wish I was her lucky man. But, no. She was dating some other guy from college. Everyday I would see her in her phenomenal white Dodge Challenger. Oooh. What a super-sexy car. And a super-sexy girl to go with it. What couldn't be better? I flinch as I notice a fast car rear past me. A white Challenger. Oh no. Pinkz. I hid behind a garbage can with dreadful flies floating around it. I plug my nose. I then hear a voice. "I know you're their Journey. Come out." I come out of my nasty hiding spot and notice those blonde curls shinning so bright, wanting to blind me. I painfully say, "Hey Pinkz." She gets out of her car and says, "Get in. I don't want such a sexy guy walking to school with no car." I blush. I say, "What about your college guy. What happened to him?" "Oh him? That loser is long gone. I am single and ready to mingle." She grins and her soft lips touch mine. I then say, "Well then. Let's get to school." She drives me and I soon get ready to ask her out.

Should I continue? o_o
