Lewis watched his sister, Olivia, scramble through the front door, her Mary-Janes clacking down the steep driveway. His father called, "Lewis, bring your sister back here. The neighbors are going to arrive any minute now!" Lewis grimaced. The neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Bennington, were under the impression that Olivia was a hired maid, and without her here for supper, they'd find out that she was actually a family member. Arms pumping against the wind, he began the descent down the driveway, following Olivia a few yards behind. "Come here, Olivia," he muttered under his breath, trying to conserve his energy for the take down. Lewis had never been the most athletic, but this was fairly important. A long time of running around town past, Lewis always slightly behind his sister, and he started to feel tired and sluggish. Olivia was too fast for him, and she probably wouldn't return to the house until early the next morning. Lewis cursed under his breath and sat down under a willow tree. Dad is never gonna let me go anywhere ever again. All because of Olivia. That brat, he thought. "I might as well stay here for awhile and catch my breath," he mumbled to himself. Soon, his eyes drooped down, and he fell asleep under the willow tree, the brim of his straw hat shadowing the top half of his face.
Liza ambled along the edge of a pond. She liked the way her reflection looked in the water; she looked sophisticated in her own way, bun tightly wound on the top of her head. A gorgeous willow tree caught her eye, so she stepped toward it, entranced. "Better place to sleep than the curb," Liza muttered nonchalantly. Maybe tomorrow she'd find a job, something to earn herself a decent apartment. She curled herself into a ball with a giant root as a pillow.

Shot a rabbit from the backseat window,
Sat and watched the summer corn grow,
Ate ice cream in a desert dream,
Got lost in father singing!
Too hot inside
Too hot outside,
Lazy days when he'd say, "Let's go for a ride!"
We'll sail on Spirit Lake,
Just me, my pappy and his lemonade...
