Username: Water of the Sun
Character's name: Fuego
Character's gender: Male
Picture/story/poem/history/bid: I breathe in. This is my first day on my own.
"I am invinsible. I am fire."
Fuego... that means fire... Mama told me it was Spanish.
I look for foes and search the skies. For what? Nothing. There is nothing there.
My pace quickens. I walk around the hot, dry desert. I almost fall in a small hole.
Rattlesnakes?
Cccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtttttttttt.
Rattlesnakes. Just my luck.
I zip away from the snakes... hungry snakes... I shiver. I was so close to death. Everything could have just ended for me.
I think... I am a fool. I told Mama I did not need her.
I was supposed to leave her in my twelth week. This is my eighth week. This is my doom.
I awaken. Such a cozy little rock... it is positioned just inside a little gap in the ground so you can crawl under it. It gives shade in the day and warmth in the night. I may stay here.
"Time for bugs... or cacti... or something." Whatever I can find. It hasn't rained in a while. Of course, it doesn't rain often in the desert anyways, but it has been longer than usual, and hotter than usual. Bugs are dying, and plants are drying out.
"A fool," I say, "a fool. Why did I do this to my mama? To me? My siblings?"
One fight. That's all it had taken me to lose my temper and run away.
I walk out from under my rock and close my eyes, deep in my thought and guilt. I am thirsty.
But all of a sudden, I feel wet. A dream. It can only be--
Drool! No!
I open my eyes in panic and wriggle around. It's all black, except when the animal open its mouth the smallest bit. I can see pink and bits of white when the lights come in.
I move faster, wriggle... how do you say... harder. I hear a yelp, and I fall on dry ground.
I forgot. My spikes. Thank you spikes.
I do not know what almost swallowed me, but after I get up I run and I do not stop to find out. I hear growling. With one short burst of speed, I am running of and on an important journey.
I come up on three rocks. There is a small gap between two, and another rock is on top of those. A lizard that looks like me, but with bluish gray and clay-colored scales. Two lizard my size, one that looks like me and one that looks like her, follow her.
"Mama."
She looks up.
"Fuego!"
She is not mad at me! She is happy to see me, happy I am alive!
I have learned my lesson. If you ever see me again, it will be with my mother and two siblings.
