- 1. Start with the area you want to add fur to
2. Copy and paste that same area onto a different layer, lock the alpha, and erase the part where light's coming from.
3. set the layer setting to Multiply, and select the now shaded area. and make a small dash under it, creating a darker shade. repeat about three (tops) times.
4. Now click the Smudge tool, and set the size to 3, opacity either 180 or 190. NEVER use it for more than that unless the fur is VERY close to the viewer. Then smudge in a downward motion, the same way fur is on an animal.
5. repeat the same motion until the area is completely filled.
The square is an example with a larger size and 190 opacity. so as you can see, the 3 point gives it a much more realistic effect.
The same method applies when the light source is below the fur. Except the opacity. when shading from darker to lighter, you have to set the opacity to either 155 or 160.
