Ice
I stepped out into the warm morning sun, in the land of forever-summer. My red and gold fur lit up in the sun's rays and I frolicked in the fields, like a young child. A chill drifted along the breeze and I stopped, my paws halting before the border. Ice and snow was in front of my paws and I looked up to see large snow-capped mountains and grey clouds, snow raining down softly. I backed away, my fur bristling and my hackles raised. A male turned his head slowly and his eyes reflected me. They were as blue as the hot-spring waters in the plains and his snow-white pelt was etched through with the purest blue designs. I silver bracelet and necklace hung around his paw and neck and his eyes were cold as he regarded her. It was Ice. I ducked my head and walked away, still backwards. My heart was racing and my cheeks were warming. Long ago, fire storms and ice storms often clashed, sounding war. We all fought until one day, the border formed. The storms stopped and peace came between us, but if someone crossed the border they would be killed on sight unless they were approved messengers. Secretly, I had a crush on Ice. We had met as kids when he accidentally crossed the border. I saw him and we played together as young pups. We had met secretly every day, until we were older. Here's the story...
I sped away from my father, blood rushing down the side of my face. "I hate you!" The words echoed in the air until I was at the border. My father had found out about me and Ice meeting and he had been furious. Claw marks were embedded in my cheek. "Ice!" I cried. His silhouette was in the distance and I rushed forwards, on a turn of speed I didn't know I had. He turned and looked at me. A smile broke out on my face but was soon shattered when Ice lunged and pinned me to the ground with one paw. His teeth were bared and in the moment of confusion, I realized it wasn't Ice.
It was his father.
Ice pounded along the plains as he saw the distant outlines of his father attacking Fire. He ran faster and tackled his father. In the heat of the moment, he didn't realize his father's claws were out. They had dug into Fire's throat slightly and now they raked across her, the life blood pouring out of her. "NO!" Ice hollered as his father grabbed him and dragged him away, He broke free and hurried over to his love, tears pouring down his face.
I stared at him, a smile on my face. "I die for you, not in vain." I whisper as my eyes close for the last time. "I love you..." The unspoken words linger in the air as my spirit fades from my body, leaving it cold.
I lifted my head and howled in agony, my heart breaking. "FIRE!" I screamed, tears pumping down my face. I turn on my father/ "
YOU BLOODY MURDERER!" I yell and leap on him, lightning flashing down as my father is killed. Blood spills over my paws and my rage ends and I crumple to the ground beside fire, sobbing. "She's gone, my one true love is gone..." I cry, tears soaking the grass, my pelt and hers. The wind blows and the sky cracks open, pouring with rain. I stand up and walk away, leaving the two corpses.
So now I run away from Ice and my spirit starts fading. I look back and whisper, "I love you..." Before my spirit fades.
I look into the plains and just for a moment, I think I glimpse Fire's ghost. My heart has never healed and as the words "I love you..." Come to me in her sweet voice, a tear runs down my face and a small scratch appears on my chest.
My heart is still breaking.
