Ah, the heart of the day; the sun was at its peak, some burning hellish eye up in the sapphire sky that watched over the Egyptian desertscape like a vulture... It was a cruel, wicked thing, the sun, that burned and killed, but it was perfect for Conláed and his eternally blazing heart. He quite liked the fire that it sent down upon the earth. Night was cold and dark, and though the sand-pelted Mithrellian could hunt and kill well in the dark, he was not fond of the cold, and hunting had become more difficult the older he had become because of the Eye of Horus which was a glowing emblem upon his shoulder.

Ever since Conláed had reached two hundred years of age, the Eye had begun to glow brighter; as blood flowed through that foreleg, it caught fire and shone through his skin. Being born in a temple of Ra had resulted in this, he was certain. Somehow the gods had thought this would be a gift. Was having such a stigma upon his body really such a gift anymore? The gods had gone; they had abandoned the Mithrellians when they allowed them to be captured and nearly wiped out by the human race. The Eye of Horus was nothing but a painful reminder of the misery they'd forced upon these loyal creatures of Egypt.

It was lucky for them that the Mithrellians were not completely dead. They would have allowed their pets to go completely extinct? Apparently. Now they got to live with their guilt, if they were even around anymore. It didn't matter. The humans had settled, finally, and they did not know Mithrellians existed. For the most part, the Mithrellians could live in peace... but human invasions still occurred occasionally. It was really obnoxious... Conláed was sick of them bursting in like idiots, stumbling upon him and ruining his hunt. He was already thinner than he should be for the summer season...

The Mithrellian kept his head low as he stalked across the desert in the glinting sun; along his neck, the blazing red fur which was completely strange and unusual for Mithrellian's was bristling, standing up on end. He did not like being out in the open like this. It was completely disconcerting, and he was anxious. Though the feel of the sun on his back heated his very soul and made him comfortable, having nothing but desert around him made him feel exposed... vulnerable. The fiery Mithrellian did not like that. Not one bit. Fortunately, there did appear to be some foliage ahead in which to hide, which also meant water.

Unfortunately, in most cases, water also meant competition and the company of others, and though there wasn't much of the Mithrellian race left to mingle with, Conláed did not want to be near them. He had been in isolation since he was one hundred and fifty years old; he didn't need, or want, other Mithrellians now. Regardless, Conláed needed a place to get out of the open stretch of desert, and a drink of water probably wouldn't hurt. His deep violet eyes, hidden behind thick Egyptian-styled make-up, focused straight on the river, his black-tipped ears perked up to listen for the expected company.

As he reached the tree line where grass also began to spring up from the harder-caked dirt, Conláed could hear the sounds of other life forms within a mile of himself. His ears flattened back against his tan skull, his fiery red mane brushing against its soft rims, and he felt the Eye of Horus burning a little brighter as his anti-social nature and desire to avoid company kicked in. He could tell where they were, clustered together around the edge of the Nile river; unfortunately, the only way to really avoid that would be to swim, and being born of fire, that was not his specialty.

Conláed kicked up the pace once the trees began to block out the sun; the Mithrellian cantered through the foliage, keeping his head low and his steps light. The sooner he got his fill of shelter and water, the sooner he could get out of here. He reached the edge of the water several yards away from the others, and for a moment he stood with his head low to the ground, the flaming mane on his shoulders bristling, the Eye of Horus flaring up into a fiery beacon, regarding the other Mithrellians which had gathered around the edge of the river.

One was slightly larger than the others; though Conláed did not socialize, he did recognize the eldest of all Mithrellians, though his name was not known. He was a dark brown with other lighter brown markings on his belly and back. Another male Mithrellian was a pretty royal blue in shade with black paws and a white mask, quite a lovely decoration, Conláed though. There was a third male, as well, being a dark gray white white socks and leopard-like markings on his forelegs. The first female he could see in the group was a milky brown in color, generally boring, but a bright white tattoo of a snake on her back made Conláed curious... but not curious enough.

The final of the Mithrellians held a stick, or so it appeared from this distance, and she was a strange pale grayish brown in color with markings like paint splatters all along her chest. They all seemed quite content to be talking in a group amongst themselves, and Conláed was quite happy being here without them pestering him. At last he was content to return his attention to the water, but the Eye of Horus continued to blaze. He lapped up the water with a snaking black tongue, and once he was satisfied, he stood up, licking his razor fangs and looking to the group again. What were they discussing...?

Rae

Rae glance up as he felt a heat and noticed another, his a flame coming from a marking on his front leg, The eye of Horus? How intriguing. He thought to himself, but he merely blinked at the other Mithrellian, he didn't seem social. Rae's eyes flickered back to the two he was talking to, then he stood and stretched, "Well, I must be back on my way to the Great Pack." He said, reffering to the pack of Mithrellian that lived near eachother.

Rae smiled at the two younger ones he'd been speaking with, then he lapped up a quick drink of water, then padded on his way, past the strange male, glancing at his as he passed, but saying nothing to him.

Fyre

Fyre smiled at Rae and watched him walk away. Her eyes then rested on the newcomers, they, her eyes, jumped from the first to the second, and sharply to the third. She could feel his eyes when they noticed her tattoos, her heart started to quicken, anger running its course through her veins. Tinted red her eyes burned as she stared at him. After a few minutes she rolled them and walked to the waters edge, far enough away from the other, but close enough to keep a warry eye on him.

After her drink she strode back over to the shade, looked over her shoulder, and disappeared into the bushes. Finding a soft place to rest, she laid down and shut her eyes. They calmed down and lightened to a bluish colour.

Rae

Rae padded into the trees and went into the forest, deeper and deeper, until he came upon the pack, where other Mithrellian were scurrying around, some of then nosing their pups back to dens, ther's idly chatting, and some eating a recent kill. He jumped up on a rock and layed down, closing his eyes and enjoying the gentle breeze flowing through the clearing.

Breif History: (From her point of view)
o.o Can it be? She looks so much like the first tatooed Mithrellian... But she never had a child did she?
I was born a hundred and fifty years ago, a decendant of the first Mithrellian to ever have a tattoo, and I am often stared at because of my tattoos, but I've learned to ignore it.

As a pup my mother hid me from all others, and I found a friend, a snake, and it curled up my leg and hid a tattoo on my leg, which is a vine with thorns and a rose where her head rests, I named her Ivy, and she protects me now, and she never seems to die, which is odd, but back to my mother. She taught me to hunt and defend myself while I was young, then she was forced to leave me before something bad happened to her for having me as her daughter.

I was alone at the age of three, taught to hunt at one year and six months, how to defend myself at two years. Mother had always told me the stories of my tattoos, but never did she say anything about my tattoo that Ivy covered, and when I mentioned it, she would just ignore me and move to a different subject, so I stopped asking.

I traveled for a long time, when I found a poor pup, alone, her parents dead, and so I took care of her, teaching her to hunt and care for herself until she was four or five years old, then I left, knowing she'd be fine from then on. I sang a lullaby to her each night, knowing she'd learn it and sing it one day for herself.

I traveled on, Ivy always slithering along beside me if she wasn't curled around my leg, and I've recently found the pack of Mithrellian that I've heard so many stories of, and I've met the elder, Rae, and he has told me wonderful stories of my grandmother, and the stories about my tattoos, except for the vine with thorns and the rose at the top.

Personality:
She has a very..... Dynamic personality...

Conláed let his pale lavender eyes linger on the group for quite some time, a gentle breeze flitting across the river and tossing his scarlet mane a bit as his black-tufted ears perked up in a half-hearted effort to listen in to their conversation. It seemed that the elder had, at first, been doing most of the talking. Either the others had very little to say in response, or they were completely intrigued by what he was saying. The fire-marked Mithrellian lashed his long black-tipped lion's tail and looked back to the water, taking another long drink of the cool water, faintly scanning the horizon for crocodiles.

By the time the Mithrellian had raised his head again, he heard the elder speaking just a bit louder than he had been a few moments before. "Well, I must be back on my way to the Great Pack." The elder excused himself and stood, stretching his long, lean body as he said goodbye to the two Mithrellians that were nearest to him. After getting one last drink, the elder went on his way - unfortunately, his way happened to be in Conláed's direction. Though he quite loathed the company of others and was thoroughly convinced he should attack, he knew he would not.

It was built deep into Mithrellian instinct and social structure to respect and obey the eldest; Conláed knew that this one here was the oldest one of their kind remaining, which put him several decades ahead of the fire Mithrellian. He had no choice but to leave the elder be, though he did not have to respect him. He refused. He didn't care what his instincts told him to do, he was not a follower or an obedient little pup; he was in charge of himself, and not even the gods would tell him who to obey and to follow. He would not listen. The Eye of Horus burned in protest at his blasphemous thought, and he grimaced, if only slightly.

The elder Mithrellian now came within several feet of Conláed, and his ears flattened back against his head. He turned from the water, watching the elder through narrowed dark violet eyes, the fiery mane on his neck standing tall as he let thick black smoke spill from his nostrils, little tongues of flame gently peeking from his nose. The two made eye contact, and though the elder continued to walk, saying nothing, Conláed kept an utterly defiant glare fixed on the brown creature. At last the elder was out of sight and Conláed let down his guard, if only a bit. He looked up at the sun, letting out a mouth full of fire that dissipated in the air.

The Mithrellian then turned to look at the other Mithrellians down the way; the one with the tattoos seemed to be about as antisocial as Conláed himself was. She appeared to be glaring at everyone and everything in sight, her eyes a dark, burning red color that Conláed found rather thrilling. The female took her fill of water before turning and retreating into the foliage by the riverside; the tan Mithrellian blinked his black-outlined eyes and watched the place where she had disappeared. He was very tempted to follow her, though what it would gain him but sore haunches in the morning was beyond him. Likely, she'd ring his bell for following her. But he liked the feisty ones.

Conláed took his final drink, feeling it cool his snaking tongue, and then he took off down the bank, making a bee-line for the hole through which she'd disappeared. Unfortunately for Conláed, following her meant he put himself out in the open for others to approach him. He swore, he'd have a conniption if they tried to hold a conversation with him. To try to deter them from approaching him, he let out a little snarl and his left front leg suddenly ignited into a column of flame that spread slightly up his neck and half-scorched his left eye. He didn't mind... it was well worth it if it kept the others away from him.

Once Conláed reached the tree line, he let the fire dissipate into little snake-like wisps that soon disappeared; his pelt steamed from the heat, but he was unharmed. He entered the coolness of the forest, following her scent. It didn't take him long to come across the pretty young thing; he was much older than her, being nearly five hundred years of age himself and she being somewhere under one hundred, but it didn't matter to him. She was a female, and she was quite the sight for sore eyes, and, despite his own antisocial nature, he desired to be in her company. He cleared his throat quietly to catch her attention.

Eclipse

Eclipse padded thought the forest, Ivy slithering along beside her as he went, her eyes on everything but the ground. She paused after a moment, the smell of smoke wafted through the trees, and she followed it, remaining in the bushes and out of sightr as she looked at a male who was smoking and a female who appeared to be resting.
Eclipse's eyes wandered over the two, then her eyes became an orangy-red color, a mixture of curiosity and anger overcame her, she hated strangers, for they almost always questioned her until she was insane, but then she noticed the female had a dragon tattoo, only is was different from her own. She liiked at Ivy as the snake slightered out of the blushes and paused just in the sunlight, keeping her eye on the other two as she sunned peacefully.
Eclipse shook her head with a light growl, she stepped out and picked Ivy up, gently in her mouth, she looked at the other two Mithrellian, her eyes blackening, as if daring them to speak, then she turned an dissapeared back into the bushes, setting Ivy down and nipping her, but she remained within hearing distance of the other two, her curiosity overpawering her hatred, for it wasn't often that she stumbled upon strangers.

S'Louch'ai

S'Louch'ai looked around. He would never admit he was confused, but this was very difficult for him to understand. Should he follow Rae, or should he stay were he was?

Fyre

Peaking out from her left eye, annoyed at the disruption. She shifted over and rested her head on her front paws, before opening both of her eyes and peering at the male above her. Muscle moving as she raised her head and pointed her nose his way. "Yes?" She hissed, standing she stretched out and returned her eyes to him.

She was feeling edgey by this untimely distraction, after a few days without a good rest. This was unneeded, but she was somewhat happier for somekind of company.

Eclipse

Eclipse sat and watched from the bushes, the age difference was obvious, the male was much larger than the female, let alone herself, but she was confident she could defend herself easily. She felt Ivy climbing up her leg and curling up on her head, but she paid the snake no mind as she watched the two others.
