I believe its by chance/luck alone. When adopting, you don't really know for sure what the pups full grown stage will be (since their adult form is randomly picked/decided upon adoption)... if your lucky, you might just get a rare one. At least, that what I think happens.

And, yes, I do Shar. That would be me alright. ^_^
