I am in no way trying to sound rude or mean or anything, so don't take it that way, and feel free to totally reject/ignore what I'm about to say;
Don't you normally want the first chapter to be interesting? Other wise people may start reading it, get bored with it, and never go back and finish?

Well, for me, a big issue is making my action really fast. One after another after another. And my stories always start with something really intense, and I never explain anything. So my strategy was take it nice and slow at first, then get really intense and full of action.

Well... I'd start by putting some words on a page, then try rearranging them to make a sentence or two. XDD
















But seriously, I'd think of a plot and a few characters before you start.

Good ideas, but when you have the plot and ideas ready...how do you really start a novel? I'm having some trouble writing my first part because there is so many ways you could start it.

Just start with whatever scene pops into your head (as long as it should be relevent) and write it. I usually rewrite my first scene three or four times before I publish a story.
