fisrt one is unfair to the 2008 rare alot : ) that green dog is called Camo dog and its quite wanted : )

second one is about fair (the cat is warrior cat line art so it has higher demand than normal cat lineart and cat is older rare so its fair to the dog rare) : )

I have the item valued at mid 09 uncommon, but I'm not sure if a late one will do for it, especially as it's the red one which doesn't match as many pets.

Still wouldn't take it.
A Dec equimage + a recent rat (almost everyone has it) =/= Bow. You're better off with the Bow.

What could they add instead of the rat to make this fair?

Id think its probably around fair. Just with the pure quantity of "common rares" if you're going for trade fodder or mass amounts of hoard pets I'm not sure. But maybe add a few lower value '08s in there yet.
