This wasn't unusual.
It sure wasn't the first time.
Yet, to her, everytime he raised his fist, it held the horror it had first brought a year ago all over again.

She staggered out of the lounge as soon as she felt it was safe.
He'd left half an hour ago, probably to drink his conscience away, but she still couldn't stop shaking.
Blood still clotted up her vision, and she didn't need a doctor he'd probably dislocated her jaw again, and the familiar pain in her ribcage indicated that at least one was broken.
She sighed. This had definately hurt more than the other times. He'd left her beyond numbness.

How could he do that to his own sister?

She rummaged through his drawers. From when he was cutting himself, he had some pills.
They always seemed to ease his pain, so she presumed they would work for her.
Aha!
There they were, behind his Swiss Army knife. How ironic.
She emptied the vial into her palm. He didn't use them anymore, and there were only a few left. She needed all the help she could get.
She took them how she would take her paracetamol, with a glass of water, and curled up into her sheets.
If only he hadn't cut her toys to pieces. How she needed all the comfort she could get.
She closed her eyes.

{ - When she was just a girl,
She expected the world,
But it flew away from her reach,
So she ran away in her sleep.
Dreamed of para-para-paradise,
Para-para-paradise,
Para-para-paradise,
Every time she closed her eyes. - }

{ - P a r a d i s e - Coldplay - }

For a reason she couldn't explain, she woke up in the middle of the night.
He was back - she could hear his snoring from the opposite room.
He was so close... It filled her with fear.
She couldn't do this anymore.
With her sheets wrapped around her like a cloak, she snuck out the window, into the cool Autumn night.

After running for what felt like hours, she reached the quiet streets of the city. She would've run further, but she was tired, bruised, broken, and had just tripped over a cardboard box.
Instead of getting up again, she climbed into the box and covered it with her sheet.
She felt like she was close to sleep when a noise startled her. She turned around to see a goose. A Canadian goose, if she remembered right.
She realised it would soon be preparing to fly south, possibly to New Zealand, where her happiness remained. She sighed. "If only you could pick me up and fly me there..."
"But I can..."
This would have startled her, but a line from her favourite story - Becky's Christmas Dream by Louisa May Alcott - echoed in her mind, "There is an old belief that all dumb things can speak for one hour on Christmas Eve."
The fact that it was far from Christmas was irrelevant, who was all of a sudden asleep.

She had not realised she had fallen asleep, but she definately remembered waking up. Why? She was about three kilometres off the ground in her cardboard box being pulled by a flock of geese in the middle of the ocean.

{ - When she was just a girl,
She expected the world,
But it flew away from her reach,
And bullets catch in her teeth.
Life goes on,
It gets so heavy,
The wheel breaks the butterfly.
Every tear, a waterfall.
In the night, the stormy night,
She closed her eyes.
In the night,
The stormy night,
Away she flied. - }

{ - P a r a d i c e - Coldplay - }

She saw many amazing things that night.
Citylights, cruise ships, countries, continents, airplanes, shooting stars - all from a bird's eye view that she didn't doubt hadn't been seen like this by a human before.
Yet, what she found the most amazing was landing in her favouritest place in the world - Home.
Not the house of sadness she had left behind, no.
You know the saying "Home is where the heart is"?
Well, she had left her heart here, with her happiness, her freedom, her summer love.
This place was where she called home.

She climbed up the side of the house, clinging on to the familiar vines and branches. She pulled herself up onto his windowsill - her earlier injuries seemingly gone - and tapped on the window.
He had been asleep, but he thankfully stirred.
His expression, when he saw her, was not one of shock that one would usually have, but pure, blissful joy.
He opened his window, and she fell into his arms.
"Brandy!" she murmed, her face buried in his embrace.
"Belle..." he whispered, and lifted her face up to look into his eyes.
He leant in, and all she could feel was the love she'd been missing for two years.
The moment was perfect. It was all she'd ever wanted.
Suddenly, she felt herself gently being pulled upwards.
A nagging instinct at the back of her mind told her this was something she should fear.
Yet she felt nothing but happiness.

"I'll love you forever, Brandy."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annabelle Moore - "Belle" - was found dead in her Vancouver home this morning with severe injuries, smiling and clutching a photo of her best friend, Bradley Johnson - "Brandy".
It is thought she died of a drug overdose due to the empty vial of painkillers found beside her bed and the fact that although her wounds were severe, they were not fatal.
Aidan Moore - her older brother - is being questioned in relation to her death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Brandy was shaken awake by his tear-stained mother. "Brandy? I have some bad news..."
"I had a dream about Belle last night," he interrupted, "It was so vivid. She tapped on my window, and I opened it, and she came in..."
"Yes, yes, very nice honey." his mother sighed dismissively. He'd been having more and more of these dreams. "But I have bad news. It's about Belle. She's dead."

Brandy's whole world came crashing down around him.

{ - You used to call me your angel
Said I was sent straight down from heaven
And you'd hold me close in your arms
I thought of the way you felt so strong

I never wanted you to leave
I wanted you to stay here holdin' me

I miss you, I miss your smile
And I still shed a tear every once in a while
And even though it's different now
You're still here somehow

My heart won't let you go
And I need you to know
I miss you... -}

Just an idea I had. I got it from seeing a couple of Canadian geese yesterday, actually. What did you think? I worked pretty hard, and I'm proud.

she's funny and she likes to laugh a lot.
she's the first person who comes to mind to make me happy when i`m sad.
she irritates me more than not
but she`s the best friend i`ve ever, ever had.

"What, another person come to mock me?" I sat by the road on a bench. It had started to snow, but unlike most of these busy shoppers who turned a blind eye, I had nowhere to go.
"Not at all." She'd be staring at me from the bench next to me for a good ten minutes, almost assessing my level of neediness. I didn't need her pity.
"Then why don't you just leave me alone?" I snapped irritably, turning away. I could still feel her eyes - green as grass - boring into my back as I huddled on the frozen wood. "I don't need your pity."

she`s colourful like her own personal rainbow
and she shines brighter than the stars overhead
she`s powerful enough to melt this ice and this snow
she`s everything and more than i`ve said.

"Back again?" I was still sitting on the bench the next day when she came back. It was colder than yesterday and everything around me - the trees, the grass - was dead. Nothing was green about today... only her eyes, as they lit up when she smiled.
"Yes." She settled herself next to me on the bench. She clutched a rainbow, woollen jumper between red fingers. Leaning over, she draped it over my shoulders. "You look cold, right? And you need some colour. Grey does nothing for you, let me tell you that."
"Huh. Won't you get cold?" I was about to shrug off the jumper but realised how illogical that would be. So, selfishly and without thanking her generosity, I turned away from the intensity of her green eyes, the only light in this cold world. "I don't need your pity."

she`s incredible and beautiful in every single way
she`s everything i`ve ever wanted to call my own
but it`s just so very hard to look at her and say
i need her and never again do i want to be alone.

"Hi." I'd given up with trying to ward her away; this pretty girl with too much time on her hands, obviously. I'd gotten used to seeing her.
"You're still here, I'm so lucky!" She laughed and danced onto the seat next to me; her eyes were drawn to the rainbow jumper wrapped around my torso. The smile on her face was like the lights on a christmas tree. She took a striped scarf from around her neck and wrapped it around mine, the smile on her face looking slightly worn, as though she was ill. I was too cautious of breaking our newfound friendship to dig into her personal life so just smiled gratefully.
"Lucky? Yeah, right. I don't believe in luck." I snorted, fiddling with the rainbow tassels on the scarf. This earned me a disapproving glare.
"You don't believe in luck? Seriously?" Her gaze was disappointed and I instantly regretted my words, if it meant she was angry with me.
"Well, look at me. I'm homeless and I barely scavenge enough food for a dog, let alone a human being." I complained bitterly, watching as a flake of white landed in her hazel hair. I refused to meet her eyes, but before she could reply, she bent down and plucked two clovers from the grass. I hadn't noticed the tiny specks of vivid green in the murky yellow-green. She handed me one of the shamrocks and kept the other.
"For luck." She explained, tucking the plant in her breast pocket with a smile. I tucked mine away in one of the rainbow jumper's pockets. "Now we can share luck, see?" She laughed and reached into her mustard-coloured rucksack, which was decorated with purple and green strips. She retrieved a warm pretzel and offered it to me. I shook my head.
"I don't need your pity." I protested, the long-ingrained words blurted before I could stop myself. The truth? I wanted her to keep warm. She'd given me all her warm garments and was looking paler than the first time I'd met her.
"Fine, fine." She smiled and nibbled on the soft, sweet bread. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"I don't need your pity." I repeated to myself after she'd left. "I don't, I don't." The words rang false in my ears and I shook my head without another word.

when was the last time someone actually cared
instead of pretending and acting untrue
wasn`t there a time when people didn`t avoided us, scared
or does this time just exist in you?

She didn't come the next day. Or the day after that. Three days after our last meeting, I read in a discarded newspaper, in a tiny article hidden at the side of the page, that a girl had died of pneumonia in a hospital. There was a picture of a girl with green eyes, hazel hair, and a rainbow jumper. Of all the information in that paper, it witheld her name. Before that day, I couldn't remember the last time I'd cried.
I had a dream that night. She came with a happy smile on her face, like the last time I'd seen her.
"Don't you blame me?" I'd asked in my dream. She shook her head, clasping cold red hands together.
"Why not? I took all the warmth from you... your jumper, your scarf. It's my fault you died." She shook her head again, and pointed to one of the pockets in my rainbow jumper. I dipped in a hand and found a small, wilting shamrock.
"Be lucky. Live a long life. Find yourself a family." She smiled and turned to leave. I tried to run after her, but the frost had set and it was hard to move from my bench.
"Stop!" I cried out; she paused and glanced back over her shoulder.
"Why do you think I wore so many colours? It was so everyone could share my luck. Everyone has a lucky colour, so I tried to give everyone a tiny piece of luck. Do you know what your lucky colour is?" I shook my head. "It's green. Bright, vivid, happy green." She told me softly, and then I woke. I left the bench without looking back. She wanted me to be happy. So I would be.

I'd do it for her. The Rainbow Girl.

Not the best, I know. Sorry ^^;; Hope you liked it, though. If you did read it.
probably not going to be around much, but if you see this signature, I hope you're having a great day and hang in there, you can do this xx
