"Being an orphan is lonely. You've got no family, often no friends, you're utterly alone. Nobody to rely on, you have to learn to survive and kill on your own. I may act alone, but if I can bring myself to trust another, I will definitely watch out for them... And I can only hope that they'll watch out for me too."
Atra trudged along, too tired to do anything but continue the rhythm. Step, pause, step, pause. She wasn't thirsty, no, nor was she tired. It was as if she were in a trance. She shook her head to get rid of the fogginess clouding her brain. She stopped and leaned down to take a drink from the creek. The cool waters refreshed her. When she lifted her nose, she caught a wiff of something. It smelled like... her. Atra raced forward, skidding to a stop when she noticed a wolf ahead of her. Atra stepped back into the shadows, but it was too late. She had been noticed.
Atra backed into the underbrush as she realized that she had, in fact, not been seen, but it mattered not to her. Her heart pounding, her head spun as she almost threw up. She had seen her own kind for the first time. Her heart pounded within her ribcage, and her fur stood on end. Time seemed to freeze as her mind leaped into overdrive, instinctively analyzing all the information presented to her. The wolf had vibrant green eyes and a brilliant white pelt. Atra couldn't tell if it was male or female, but that was probably due to her inexperience with others. When she returned to the world, she realized it weren't acting hostile at all. Instead, it seemed to be humming joyfully. Atra stepped back a moment, freezing up as she accidentally stepped on a twig.
The wolf instantly shot up straight, stock still, ears twitching. Atra silently cursed. She would have to meet this wolf. Atra slowly stepped out into the open, tilting her head in curiosity. After all, if she was meeting her kind for the first time, she may as well take in any information she could. The wolf tilted it's head in response. "I've never seen you around her before. Are you new?"
Atra nodded, shoving down the slight fear that was attempting to twist itself up into her mind, her eyes flaring neon blue for a moment. "Yes, I suppose I am, aren't I."
The wolf chuckled. "Yeah, definitely never seen you around. I'm Alicia by the way."
Atra shifted a little on her paws, but managed to force out a small smile. "Hi, I'm Atra. I take it you're a hunter for whatever pack you're in?"
Alicia nodded. "I'm a hunter, yeah." Alicia looked at Atra's slightly nervous face. "Say, you're what, two years old about? What're you doing without a pack?"
"As if it's unusual to not have a pack?" Atra mentally cursed. She was cornered.
"Welll..." Alicia tilted her head back as she thought. "We have gotten a number of new wolves recently, but that could just be because of Black Dawn."
Atra shrugged. "If I say I don't know what Black Dawn is, would you be surprised?"
"You'd be surprised. We've had a number of wolves who haven't recently."
Atra was getting antsy. She hadn't any social experience, and just wanted to be out of there. "Hey, you okay?" Atra's head shot up as Alicia addressed her.
"Yeah, fine."
Alicia tilted her head again. "You don't look it, if you wanna be alone, that's fine."
Atra gave a soft, but genuine smile at this. She didn't know if others would be nice at all, but here was the very first wolf she had met, and Alicia seemed pretty nice. "If you don't mind?"
Alicia shrugged. "I don't mind, long as I get another chance to talk to you Atra, would that be okay?"
Atra nodded. "That'd be... nice. I should get going though, so goodbye."
Alicia nodded and walked away, humming again. Atra glanced at her retreating figure, before walking away a little. Atra went over what happened, and then dropped to the ground trembling. Fear and shock caught up to her. Although she hadn't shown it, the conversation had been nerve-wracking, but she did feel a sort of bond forming between them. Perhaps she could... finally have a friend? She would never admit it, ever, but she started to feel lonely. Meeting Alicia had brought something out of her that had previously been buried within the depths of her mind. Only then did Atra realize how being depraved of a social life had affected her. Atra couldn't tell if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
Atra shook her head. It wouldn't do to just sit there mulling over her thoughts, it was getting dark. Atra walked a little farther along the stream as the starts started to shine, and she found herself looking upon a sparsely populated clearing. She circled around the clearing, relying on the light of the moon to guide her. She found what looked like an old game trail, which meant food and shelter. Turning into the forest, she looked back upon the clearing once more, before plunging into the dark, taking twists and turns, and before long, she found another clearing. Very small, but very cozy, with a small natural cave, and plenty of game would be found in the morning. Atra fell asleep that night mulling over the possibility of making a friend.
((Note: Yeah, I got Destonation's help with this for her OC, also permission from her to have Atra meet Alicia, so yeah. Gonna be the only time I do this probs.))
