"The ashes felt like snow. And the ground gave in between where we were standing. And your voice was all I heard. That I get what I deserve."
The song rang through her head, perfect for this moment. She stood, stunned, in front of Aspen.
He picked Corall.
Not her.
She shook her head in disbelief. It couldn't be true. He couldn't love that......no. He was lying. This was all a dream. Her heart couldn't be broken so easily.
Could it?
"You......You don't mean that." she said, shaking her head. "You can't." Her voice cracked on the last sentence. This couldn't be happening.
Insomnia didn't dislike Corall. She never had. She had just never truly like her. Murcury was her best friend, and that was really all she needed. But now....A fiery pit of hate began to build itself in her heart as she saw that Aspen was telling the truth. That he didn't love her.
The fire grew larger and larger, and began to consume her. "You can't! No!" she barked, her eyes wild. "She doesn't love you! I....I do." Once again, her voice broke as she saw his face. This was impossible.
She spat at him, disgust on her face. "Fine, then. Go see your love." She snarled the word. She turned, leaping past him and straight into the forest. She ran blindly, and it was as if she was a yearling again. The world fell, crashing around her. She ran, knowing that the only one she loved loved another, knowing that her parents were dead.........
It was all too much.
With a loud, eery howl, she shifted directions, heading for the human camp. Anger and hurt seethed through her veins, a powerful ally in a battle. She let loose another howl, leaping into the camp. She snarled, turning and snapping the first human she saw into pieces. She didn't even bother to savor the kill, for more were suddenly on her. They swarmed her, and Insomnia snapped and snarled uncontrollably. "Donna kainji? Sonna kainji!" She screetched, though she doubted they knew Japanese.
The song drifted back into her head as she fought more fiercly than ever.
"So give me reason, to fill this hole, connect the space between. Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes. Across this New Divide."
A man with a knife came at her, and they circled each other. He was large, with beefy muscles, but she knew he had never hurt a fly. The fear in his eyes was plain, and she grinned. "Lorem Inferno," she said.
Then she leaped.
She sailed through the air, the humid breeze dancing in her black fur. Her eyes glowed a blinding violet, and she opened her jaws.
She slammed into him, then felt a sharp pain. Looking down, she saw the knife embedded in her stomach. She looked at the man with disbelief, and the pride and fear in his eyes were a terible mix.
Insomnia drooped to the ground, and her eyes swam. She watched as several humans stepped towards her, arms outstretched. She tried to fight, though the pain was unmistakeable. She felt a bracelet slip onto her right front leg, and she stared at it, denying what she saw. An amethyst bracelet.
Her world went dark.
