That's how I came up with Ex's name. Xehol just kept popping in for no reason. Every other name sounded wrong, and after a day or two, it was like a perfect fit.

It's mostly because of the fact that in His Dark Materials/The Golden Compass, daemons are generally the opposite gender of their human, so that's what everyone normally goes with. And it depends on what feels right - Mar is male and that's that as far as I'm concerned. I can't even really imagine him being female. XD

Go with what feels right. Many daemons have completely made-up names. We're picky mental constructs.

I think I was wrong about him being Settled as a Black Footed Ferret. He uses that form and that of a Common Barn Owl most often. Yet, I think he may be a Common Barn Owl as his true species.
