Adam made a sound of fake disgust, something like "eughck" or "eesh" before he took a bite of his burger. "Maybe one'll pop into the city," he laughed. "Next thing you know, police horses'll have bat wings and ram horns." He almost kept expecting to see a person walk in through the diner doors, but there was no one. There was the familiar sound of the bell above the door playing in his head, but he was just imagining things. "So, you said you have a brother, right? Tell me about him?" He'd always been an only child, and at one point, he'd asked Santa for a little brother. Hearing about Rhett's sibling would have to do, although he assumed that her brother was older.

Rhett grabbed somethings from the fridge before turning back around. "Oh yes, Elliot" she said pretending to be annoyed by the sound of the name. "He is a year older than me, making him 18. He is the most sophisticated thing you will ever meet." she continued chuckling slightly. "He doesn't really take my childish joking lightly, and is super over protective." she added scrunching up her face. "But he is really into music and photography, which is cool I guess"

Clearing her throat, she hummed a soft tune before turning to him. "Why not I sing and you just okay along? Choose the tune that you think is right?" She suggested finally, breaking the silence between them. Placing the pad of paper on her lap, she glanced at it quickly, skimming the lines.

"Well he sounds nice. He's my age, and photography's cool. Music, though, is.. yeah, that's me." Adam had always been confused as to why kids hated their siblings. But then again, he would never know, since he didn't have any, and his parents were long divorced, as well as too old to have any more kids. Over course, Rhett was just teasing her brother behind his back, out of love. But whatever; he wiped the thought from his mind to apologize unnecessarily once again. "Sorry, shouldn't turn this into something about me. Uh.. do you have any pets besides Mooshi?"

Elliot shrugged "Sure thing" he said doing his best to hide his nervousness. He knew he was bound to mess up, but maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deal. He usually never acted like this, so there was no need for him to start. All he had to do was keep calm and every thing would be fine.

Rhett raised one eyebrow for a moment. Then shook her head, deciding to stop over thinking things. "Er...well Elliot has a dog" she said shrugging slightly. "I am more of a cat person, but Zink is a sweet heart" she said remembering the calm fluffy dog, who was her brothers favorite companion.

Giving a little nod that seemed to say "not bad", he added in a thoughtful little "Dogs are sweet," before taking another bite of his burger, followed by a few fries. There wasn't much to say anymore, really; they'd hit a bit of a dead point in their conversation. "Just.. out of curiosity. What were you doing in the middle of New York City with a cat who's obviously skittish?" He gave a little smile, if only to ensure her that he was just trying to keep on a steady conversation. The thought that the rest of the night might be in the same semi-awkward tension almost made him sick with nervous anxiety.

"would be lonley if Mooshi didn't tag along..." she paused for a moment. She knew she probably thought of her cat differently than most. Mooshi had been her best and only friend for awhile. She knew he didn't understand her but when she was younger she would come home crying from all the abuse from her fellow classmates or when her parents fought. And the last thing she wanted was to be around another person when she was upset like that. So she would talk to her one eared companion and actually feel a little better. The dark haired girl was looking down at the ground think for what must have seemed like ages, unaware that her expression physically changed when some things popped in her mind

"I'd just say it's bad to bring a cat with you. I think it's nice to take a stroll through the city. Not even the parks, just down an alley or something. But that's just me." He ran a hand through his hair, still expecting the little bell to chime above the front door. Just nervousness, he guessed, or the paranoia.

Rhett shook her head attempting to get away from the memories. The last thing she wanted to do was cry in front of someone. That would just make her seem weaker than she already seemed. She attempted to look up at him and smiled a weak fake smile, that he hopefully he couldn't see threw. But Rhett was terrible at hiding things.

Adam noticed right away that Rhett was holding in tears. He'd had a keen eye for it, not as much now as he did when his parents were getting a divorce. But even though his raven-haired friend was a little more on the obvious side about it, he could read people like they were parts of a library. Dropping his sandwich right then, he moved the wrap his arms around her shoulders. Close friend or not, when a person is tearing up like that, he thought they deserved to be comforted. "Hey, it's okay," he said softly, almost inviting her to cry. He hesitated in whether to call her 'babe' -- it seemed a bit natural, since he called just about every female his age by the nickname. Figuring he had nothing to lose, he repeated himself: "Ts'gonna be alright, babe."
