I'd love to get some critique on this; it was supposed to be a shorter story, but I felt I needed to explain the whole thing. XD. It's not even finished yet; I have a week to do so. :L All the French was ran through google translator (I take spanish. xD), so it's probably....interesting. :3

~And so the lion snake fell in love with the lamb fox.~

Lovelies: Sousielle Anne & Hadley Sintest

Liverpool, England, 1884

A sleek, dark wolf trotted along the cobblestone streets, keeping her eyes down and her hair flipped over her face. Sousielle whispered what little English she knew to herself, alternating in French, as she stared down at her lolita outfit. "Qu'est-ce un moment triste, nous sommes tombés dedans, où un peu Hannukah-Serfait fille doit mendier de l'argent. Folie." She sighed and stopped under a dim streetlamp, reaching up to adjust her ponytail and retie the bow on her top. Sousielle took great pride in little besides being sharp and dressing accordingly. She'd dyed her hair into her favourite shade of blue to match her daily outfit, and even her crimson red eyes matched the bows she abhorred. Around her were a few shops; a general store, a shoemaker, a tailor, and the place she was looking for; a casino and tavern. It was time for little Sousie to show the world how she made her money.

Meanwhile, a young, handsome bachelor sat inside that very tavern, as fortune may have it, playing a few card games with his friends. Everyone knew Hadley Sintest was a low character, slyly working his way into the hearts of many, but that kept none from playing with him. "Maybe just one game? It won't hurt, I promise. Besides, Vous devez perdre une partie beaucoup à gagner." He sing-songed and cracked his brilliant grin, coaxing another young gentleman into the game. Flipping aside his shiny coif, he motioned to the waiter. "Another round of hors d'ourves for everyone, on me!" Looking about, he looked away from the astonished waiter and pressed a small pawful of gold coins into his hand, with a note, saying 'small pups tend to eat a lot, good luck!'. While the waiter hurried away to fetch plates of fried shrimp and finger sandwiches, Hadley turned to the table and his grin turned to a look of studious impatience. "Well, what are we waiting for?" He called, taking out a deck of shiny, blood-red cards. Dealing quickly, he began to flick out all of them, making sure an ace or two hit his own pile. The first hand went by quickly, as did the second, and the third, and soon, Hadley was paying for his friends' food with their own money. A poorer boy, with little sense of humility, quickly went after Hadley, accusing him of cheating and such. Although the boy was not wrong, Hadley didn't apologize, but rather turned to the door in a look of wonder as the darkest, angriest, most beautiful wolf he'd ever seen trotted in.

Sousielle wandered about the tavern, smiling warmly at the girls she recognized from the academy and giving hostile glares to any wolf who wandered a bit too close. She went over to the waiter and began to speak in broken English. "Soda-pop.....grape......please you...uhm...here." Sousielle was much better with numbers than with languages, and she quickly counted out a dollar fifty and handed it to the waiter, who simply nodded and walked away silently. She walked, tail swishing, towards the poker and pool tables and slid over a chair. Not wanting to attempt her English again, she began to whisper rapidly in French, keeping one eye on her hand and the other on the wolf who couldn't seem to look away. Sousielle looked up and blinked, giving the sweetest pout they'd seen. "Comment .. comment voulez-vous jouer avec ces cartes? Je crains que le seul jeu que je connais est aller pêcher!" And one by one, the wolves trickled over in front of her and tried to show her how to play, as her eyes grew wider and wider. "Oh, I see." She gasped and smiled the slightest coy smile before returning to a blank look. "Let me try...I put in." She slid a few coins to the center and looked up as the wolves dispersed, returning to their seats. Only that one wolf sat silent, studying her. Maybe he doesn't speak French. Maybe he's one of those folks from the West. He's very well dressed, very flashy..I bet I can take him for at least five hundred.. Sousielle's thinking hardly matched her helpless demeanor as she thought out all the ways to con the men. She worked her way into it, and lost twenty pounds making silly moves, and one of the wolves pulled his cowboy hat off his head and smiled pityingly. "Now there, little girlie, we don't want you to lose your supper money. Maybe you can just finish this hand, and go join the others; they're playing for kicks, not coins." He motioned over to a few younger girls playing near the pool tables, and mostly gossiping. "I may do that. After him." Sousielle smiled, inwardly writing off the poor fellow as the silent wolf laid down his hand; nothing more than a three pair, high ace. The other wolves whistled; he'd beaten them all with his high ace. They began to get up, remark how late it was, and wander off with what was left of their purses as the silent wolf barked.

"Wait, we've got a young lady over here who isn't finished." Hadley nodded at Sousielle, while she hardly bothered to return his smile, staring at her cards. She shuffled them around a bit and laid them down cautiously. "Is this good?" She asked quietly, straining against her urge to grin. Hadley whistled and looked at the heaping pile of coins. On the table laid Sousielle's hand, a three pair of aces and two smaller cards. He nodded in disbelief and slid the rolling pile to her as the other wolves groaned and looked on in envy, eventually departing. Sousielle began to collect her jacket and returned her soda glass to the table, humming to herself as she tossed the last of the coins into her purse, leaving a few on the table. Hadley leaned against the pool tables, watching her graceful stride and quick grabs. "Relax, no one's going to take it from you...yet. That's quite the trick you pulled there; usually I can't get that reaction from slipping an extra ace in the pile." He talked quietly, running his paws through his tousled hair, as she looked up in interest. "Ah, you must only hear English, not speak it. Funny, I learned much the same for Russian. That's why they keep trying to take me for a fool. Their mistake, of course." He laughed dryly to himself, recalling his bout with the English mafia groups. "I don't suppose I'll be seeing you again around here? Toby looked quite upset with you." Hadley tried to charm his way past her cold demeanor, but she only shook her head in response as she left. He stared after her, smiling at the challenge. "Well, I'll see you around somewhere, peu la chasse."
-will finish soon-
Not around much longer except to get rid of most of my pet collection (probably while also amassing art). If anyone's still interested, I'm still eating my weight in carbs, I'm just working retail now to burn it off instead of running cross country, unfortunately. :)
I have the attention span of a squirrel, please don't take it personally. c:

He's one of my best friends.
I tell him most things and he listens well.
He knows I like him.
He doesn't know I've liked him since we met a few years ago, but he knows I like him.
I go out of my way to talk to him in the halls even risking being late to class, even though I feel like I'm annoying him.

He's the reason I make sure I try to look good some days instead of my usual jeans and hoodie.

He's the reason I draw hearts all around the edges of my notes for school.

And he's the reason I try to be happy even when I'm at my lowest.
I only wish he knew that...

him xx me

I awoke on a boat. It was dark, and the boat wasn't very comfortable. Frightened as to where I was, I stared down into the water, yawned, and quietly glanced up at the moon. It hung high, stars clinging to the night sky. I thought I was alone, but quite to my relief, I wasn't. I stared at the other end of the boat as a shadow of a boy lay clutched in my vision. He, obviously not that fluffy, had a blanket over himself, which wrapped him like a cocoon. It was obviously night, and we were in the middle of nowhere. I suspected it was just him, being cold and such. Come to think of it was pretty cold. Starting to shiver, I yawned again and tiredly let my head fall back. I was clutching my knees for warmth, as they lay against my chest, but it didn't help at all. The boy at the other end of the boat turned around, as I opened my eyes a bit, but he didn't notice. He stepped closer and I got a better look at his face; to my relief, it was him; not some creeper. He glanced at me sweetly and removed the blanket from his shoulders. I closed my eyes just in case he noticed I was awake, and he obviously noticed me shivering. I opened my eyes just a slit, just to see him smiling at me, possibly thinking it was cute how I was shivering, but I couldn't be sure; im not a mind reader. He, a few seconds before removing the blanket, set it overtop of me and went back to his side. I waited a few minutes and almost fell asleep until I was awoken more to the sound of his chattering teeth. The wind picked up, and it was even colder now, so I suspected he must be really freezing. I opened my eyes, faking like I just woke up, and sat up quietly, not to scare him. "Aren't you cold?" I said quietly. He turned, face brightly lit. "Oh. Your awake. Uh..." He glanced down. "Yeah. It's pretty cold, but im alright." Then I myself glanced down, at the blanket. Smiling, I said, "Well, if your cold, we could share the blanket. It's pretty big, big enough for two, that is." He smiled back dimly and nodded, "Yeah. That'd be nice." I lifted the blanket as he got up and stepped under it. A few minutes later, we both weirdly opened our eyes at the exact same time and were then staring at eachother. I smiled and laughed sheepishly as he did the same afterwards. We stared for another moment and smiled and laughed again, the same sheepish tone, and he pulled in. Who was I to resist? The kiss felt like heaven. His lips felt like a cloud. He was perfect, perfect for me. And I him. This whole world was now heaven. I couldn't pull away. I flashed back to him; his sparkling eyes, even in dark, his beautiful smile, his cute laugh, his sweet glare.
I couldn't think of anyone else but him. Everything else just left my mind.

I didn't even know how we got here, but I didn't care.

I walked through the ruins silently. There wasn't a whole lot to see, just an enormous plain full of dead things and destroyed buildings. Typical, everyday stuff.

Smoke was still oozing from the ground, which told me the battle hadn't been too long ago. The people who did it were probably right ahead, laughing over their victory as they lightheartedly clinked their glasses together. A few years ago I would have tagged all of these people as brutal, unforgivable killers. These days, though, this kind of behavior was in the basic script.

There wasn't much around in the ways of weapons, or defensive items in general. All I managed to find were some shards of broken knives, a dull sword, two rusty scraps of metal, and an oddly shaped kunai that seemed to be made out of a fang. Opening the old sack that I kept over my shoulder I threw my new inventory in, keeping only the kunai in my hands. It was a pitiful weapon, but it was masterfully made. It could probably go for a good amount of coins. Assassins needed better pay anyways.

A slight wind blew over the area of death. It was ominous, so I quit my toothpicking around the weapons and moved on. The killers probably weren't far at all, most likely looming just over the slight hill that stood over the bloodied grounds. It was odd, though, I couldn't hear or smell anything of them, even with the breeze's aid. But they had to be found anyways.

Trudging along I finally made it to the top. I crouched behind a fallen log, peeking over the top to see if I could get any first glimpses of the group. Adrenaline rushed through my body as I lifted my head. The group would have to be large, such a large massacre would require a highly skilled, enormous army.

That's why my heart skipped a beat when I saw a lone, bloody figure sitting a few mere feet away. I could hear the music of death playing in the back of my head as the other being turned towards me. I found myself caught in a glare of pink eyes. I was locked there, almost captured by them.

" So I suppose you've come to kill me, correct? " A voice spoke through the mask. I expected the sound to be muffled as it got caught in the mask, but instead it came out perfectly clear. Clear, beautiful, and female.

All I could do was nod.

Wait for me, and I'll return
    Only wait very hard
Wait when you are filled with sorrow...
    Wait in the sweltering heat
Wait when the others have stopped waiting,
    Forgetting their yesterdays.
Wait. For I'll return, defying every death.
And let those who do not wait say that I was lucky.
They will never understand that in the midst of death,
You with you waiting saved me.
Only you and I know how I survived.
It's because you waited, as no one else did.

    - Wait for Me, Konstantin Simonov

    - x - - x - - x -

    Perhaps they were right.

War is brutal. It’s vicious. Even when the sun is high in the sky above, clouds nowhere to be seen for the entire expanse of blue—no light ever truly shone. Only the shadows came and went to cover the dead.

    The dead.

No. Her love wasn’t to be one of them. One of the many bodies tangled together in a tower of blood and flesh, reaching for the empty sky, forsaken by the light of the sun and the moon. She refused to even think that. By the gods of them all, her mind couldn’t reach that! He had told her to wait for him, to wait until it was past them. She had promised to wait for however long it took, however long it took for her lover to come back to her. Through the tears, the hunger, the thirst. She would wait; she would wait very hard. She would wait for her solider to return to her when the dawn of a new day came, when they would be reunited.

Wait thorugh the shadows and the darkness of it all.

Nobles shouldn’t be off to fight wars, she had argued, they had their place and it was not that of the average peasant solider! Shalis, he was a noble, yet he had refused to stay in a palace, living at peace, as a war was being fought in their land. His dreams had crawled with shadows, the walls seemed to drip with blood, and the demons walked beside him. No. He had a lover, a romance; he couldn’t leave her to wait upon their bedroom’s balcony while he ran into the darkened horizon to chase the army.

A sword upon his back and a lantern led him to the armed forced, and he welcomed it. Shalis’ lungs were soon filled with dust; his nostrils stained with the scent of rotting flesh… his own limbs and face painted in blood. He grew used to the senses, but never to the feelings. Never would his eyes unsee the show the enemy made of slaying one of his companions in the call of a wanted victory.

And of all things, he would never forget crashing to the ground after his steed was slashed through the legs.

Her lover had told her this: wait for him with a heart of courage. Wait through the blistering heat of the hottest day in summer, when the water has dried and you quench for the tang of relief from it. Wait through the bitter cold of the deep winter, when your limbs are numb and your teeth chattering. Wait for the return of your lover from the view of our stone balcony. I will return someday, we will be reunited, I swear to you this. Wait for me.

How was she to take this? Seasons upon seasons of waking to an empty bed? Was she to continue to feel her heart break and replace itself every single time a cart returned from the battlefield, bringing with it a fragment of the fallen? She was beginning to falter, seeing the wives cry when they recognized their husband being tossed from the mercenaries’ carts. She was growing sickened by the sight of their war flag blowing in the spring breeze. Of all things, she missed waking next to a war body, rather than those damn furs. But she waited; she waited for him to return—through her anger.

For she believed he would return.

He would awake for days after with the same scream of pain. A shattered shoulder and an arrow to the knee would do that to even a proud warrior. The healer would heat the rod and push the arrow through after breaking it, yet it did little to relieve pain. A simple trick that was quick and painful. Nothing less was to be expected in a tent in the woods. Yet a hold was placed on his shoulder from where his steed, that beast, had forced most of their combined weight. Pity, perhaps it would have worked best if it had gone just a bit higher and snapped his neck. Surely that would have saved him from this living hell of a battered body.

Alala was a constant reminder of why he wasn’t impaling himself whenever the healer had their back turned. He had told her to wait through the pain and sorrow. Now his pride was just as broken as his shoulder, scarred and bruised. Both were nursed through the pain, and a sword was picked up once more when the leaves began to change into the colors of blood. By the time snow covered what remained of the leaves, the red water had stained the ground in their victory.

The enemy was nothing, and they were only slightly better. Through the blizzard they had to carry most of the leftover supplies and spoils of war upon their broken backs. Back to their home, where the last of the carts had dumped much of the dead, at least the ones early one. How many had been left in the field and forest? Maybe a little less than had been tossed into the river. A young soldier had sobbed over the loss of his brother and father on the march back to their kingdom. A single commander was all that remained of their six legion leaders. How many were walking back by his side? It seemed like even less than that lowly fraction.

    So many had stopped waiting.

So many wives had cried and dried their tears after the passing seasons. The fires in the windows, the torches outside the homes, the children watching from the doorways—by the end they had become a distant memory. Yet she lingered on the balcony. Let them give up their hope, let their waiting end; her loyalty was something different. She would wait. Her armor would hold the chill of early spring upon her, only covered my a cloak which barely covered her exposed frame. Even with tears in her eyes she would wait. Even if it took a lifetime for her lover to return.

The shapes rose on the horizon that evening, and sobs from the balcony above were heard by the citizens as they raced to those returning.

Wait for me, and I shall return.
