~Basics~

House: Hufflepuff
Wand: Ebony, Acromantula web core, 13 inches, unyielding. It has an intricate design, with a stylized spider on the handle and three unusual red gems embedded in the spider’s body. This wand is almost completely unsuitable for Joel, but was forced on him when his grandfather [a pureblooded wizard] found out that he was not, after all, a squib.
Blood status: Half-blood

Pet: A common barn owl named Sylvia

Appearance: Joel is short and skinny, with pasty skin and long, awkward limbs. His black hair is pretty messy, very straight and only reaches a little below his ears. It's also almost completely shaved off on the left side of his head, as his parents were never big on any kind of restrictions. He has pretty sharp facial features, one of them that causes him most grief being his slightly long, pointy nose, which he thinks makes him look even more ratty. He has thin lips and large light green eyes. His ears stick out a bit more than usual. He used to wear the same black hoodie and jeans for as long as he could get away with, but he had to discard both articles of clothing when he left for Hogwarts.

Overall, he has a scruffy, delinquent alley-rat sort of appearance.

~Digging Deep~

Personality: Stubborn, spoiled and determined - Joel is... a difficult kid to deal with. As a result of having some very lenient parents, with the mentality of “he'll learn about it soon enough, why not now“ and of course, the belief that they shouldn't be setting any very firm rules or boundaries, Joel grew up usually doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. If denied something, he isn't likely to throw any tantrums, but will hound whoever refuses him relentlessly until he gets his way. For a kid, he seems to have very impressive patience and determination when he is pursuing what he wants, or who he wants, but...

Easily distracted - Joel often lets his mind wander. Although he might be set on something, without anyone there to guide him anything that could be more interesting will make him change his course easily.

Bit of a coward - While he would cluelessly approach any old thing that catches his attention, it's a completely different matter when he actually realizes that his life might be in danger if he does so. Joel isn't extremely cowardly, but tends to think of himself and his safety first, at least in dangerous situations. He isn't ready to risk his life for anybody important to him just yet, but will certainly try his best not to slip away when nobody is looking.

Clingy, touchy-feely - Joel likes attention. He practically used to live off of it. If it wasn't his mother or father, it was a close relative, or even that babysitter from down the street, but everybody agreed that Joel was an adorable child. Thus, joel received lots of hugs, kisses and gifts. Of course, he quickly grew out of being adorable, and started being a menace, but that didn't mean that he couldn't put up a good act in front of people for the sake of being doted on. The concept of "personal space“ flies completely over Joel's head. He likes to give and get hugs frequently, or to just hold onto the closest person he favors, wether they like it or not.

Tactless - On many subjects, Joel doesn't care for people’s personal opinions. He does care for people’s feelings either and, unfortunately, has a hard time realizing when he might have stepped over the line. He speaks his mind, wether his opinion might be hurtful to somebody or not.

A bit stupid - Joel isn't the sharpest crayon in the box. His stupidity might be at it's best at the most unfortunate moments, and he appears extremely naive. But at least he's sometimes good at improvisation to get out of sticky situations.

Indecisive, forgetful - Joel can rarely make up his mind quickly. If he is stuck pondering on something for a long time, he invents a third option, or searches for one relentlessly from others. And of course, if he thinks too much, he might just forget what he was thinking of in the first place!

Good actor - At least when it comes to faking tears and pain, Joel is a pretty good actor.

Easily excited and impressed - Joel is very easy to get excited. He loves listening to people’s laughs, and loves laughing himself. He can easily be impressed by the smallest of things.

History: Before receiving his Hogwarts letter, Joel lived blissfully unaware of the wizarding world in a small, out of the way flat in london. His father is a pureblood, while his mother a muggle. He and his mother were both in for a shock when they read the letter’s contents, and his father had kept everything hidden from them up until then.

Joel’s mother was extremely angry and confused, and left to live with her mother and father for a few weeks, just to cool off. Joel left for Hogwarts incredibly upset, hating the school already.

Patronus: Hyena
Fears: Joel is deathly afraid of great heights and confined spaces.
Flaws: A bit stupid, indecisive and forgetful, tactless, bit of a coward.
