‡ Sorina Voras ‡

Sorina had an ever present appetite. It wasn’t like she was always hungry, but when she sees food, she just feels the desire to eat it. At feasts, it's so hard to ignore long trail of various dishes and appetizers that Sorina often gave up resisting and went at them with a fervent willingness. Her plate was always full, much like tonight. Sorina through and around the throngs of chatterboxes, holding a plate piled with meats, fruits, and who knew what else over her head to avoid a messy confrontation. She nodded at those who greeted her, but didn’t stay to dive into what would turn into long conversations. For now, she wanted to concentrate on eating, and listening to the music.

Of course, when a spell is cast in an unexpected place like this, it tends to change a person’s plans. When a spell is cast, a certain amount of magic is released and able to be detected those who train themselves in magic. The better the mage, the less magic is spilled. Sorina has never, ever met a mage that could cast a magic that couldn’t be sensed. This mage, whoever it was, seemed to be well-versed in magic, but not an expert. It was easy to feel the magic of his spell. Her interest piqued, Sorina paused as soon as she could get a decent space, and studied the crowd. There were no flashy displays of external magic, as far as she could tell, so whatever spell was cast, it was a private one. And privacy usually meant secrecy.

Sorina, while she thought of a way to find the caster, continued to act like her usual relaxed self and began to slowly eat the food on her plate. She could trace the trail of magic back to its owner, since as long as a spell was in place there would usually be some sort of trail, but perhaps it would be better to wait. Wait and see if any one person, or perhaps more than one, began to act out of the ordinary.

~.:Alana Pendragon:. ~ .:Windhelm Princess:. ~ .:Female:. ~ .:21:. ~ .:Human:. ~

Alana stayed behind her column as she tried not to be noticed by anyone important. She just wanted a few moments away form the crowds when she heard a soft voice whisper to her, turning sharply she thought that she would see the speaker right behind but was confused when no one was there. Stopping now and taking in her surroundings she looked for any individual who could have spoke to her but stayed in place due in part to her instincts. "Those who refer to me as the White Maiden do not know me in person. Show yourself if you wish to speak." There was something different about the voice who addressed her and she felt the need to reply back as if the speaker were right in front of her. She noticed Sorina stacking a plate of food but seemed to stop and inspect the area, everything was noted like that on the battlefield, and she knew that if Sorina was alerted then magic was in the area.

A far away distant howl sounded off in the distance as another seemed to join it. It was odd since it did not sound anything like a normal dog but she was distracted by concentrating on the voice who spoke with her till she pinpointed the white haired musician. She noticed he was odd before and locked eyes with the silver haired man. Another howl, was it getting closer? She turned this time to look out a large window nearby only to see two low lights coming this way. Since when did flames move so quickly? She was beginning to tense now and instinctively placed a hand on her sword at her side. Filling the familiar hum come from it's hilt as she grasped it, she knew of the Deep Magic that flowed through it's steal and if it hummed at the presence of both the man and the two fires growing ever closer then it meant trouble was not far behind.

•Kitayla•Age 17•Single•

Kitayla nodded smiling softly. She didn't know what else to say, or even do for that matter. She smelled something that smelled rather good and looked over at a little bakery. She then looked at Lyden and shook her head. "Nah, I was just sick of it being so quiet all the time. I like it being quiet, but it being always quiet finally got on my nerves today." She explained. "Do you wanna get something from the bakery?" she asked suddenly getting a hopeful look in her eyes. Kit didn't get sweets that often. Only on special occasions. It was a shame really because she liked sweets. Not the super sugery ones that, when you eat them, you can actually feel your teeth rotting. But like butter scotches or something with strawberries. Rowan, on the other hand, happened to like small mammals, and she had spotted one a second ago. She quickly swiped up the unfortunate mouse and went into an alley to eat in peace. Kit shuddered watching her.

- Howl Nephetys -

"Oh, how rude of me calling you by that. But you're right... we don't know each other m'lady." Then Howl noticed that the princess saw him, "Very skilled indeed to notice that it was me...'' right before finishing his sentence they locked eyes, "Those eyes... the same eyes full of sorrow... yet so beautiful... you haven't changed Alana.", right after saying that, he noticed a presence, an evil one, the same one that the princess sensed too. "I'd really love to talk to you now, but it seems that there's trouble coming... I shall take you to a safe place, cover your ears.", "Deep Sleep Lullaby..." playing a beautiful and calm song, he can put those who listen to it into a sleeping state for a few seconds. Suddenly people started to feel sleepy, as they fell to the ground. Howl rushed to Alana, grabbed her hand, "Let's go princess, we have nine seconds.", and left the ballroom. While lefting he noticed that someone in special was still awake. "A mage huh... she was able to sense me and cast a barrier against my music so fast... I'll have problems with her...".

‡ Sorina Voras ‡

It wasn’t often that Sorina felt Deep Magic, but the sensation was so brilliant that she would never be able to forget it, and always be able to identify it. Usually, the only form of Deep Magic Sorina could feel was at the Stonehenge, when the Peace Ceremony took place. Other than that place, it would be astounding to even catch a glimpse of Deep Magic . Very few artefacts existed that held such power. One such artefact was Windhelm’s very own Sword of Peace, and it only released its magic when there was a true threat nearby. The sword’s activation gave Sorina plenty of reason to become worried, and immediately she began to search for Alana.

The princess’s gaze was focused on a window, her hand on the hilt of her sword. Sorina narrowed her eyes, catching sight of twin lights beyond the glass, but they were too far away for her to make out what they were. Unconsciously taking a few steps in Alana’s direction, Sorina wordlessly invoked a spell to sharpen her eyes, to see far into the distance. She didn’t want to wait until those lights came closer to find out what they were. The sword was threatened, and a power like that isn’t threatened easily. It would be safer for everyone in this room if she found out what they were before they arrived.

The sight made her blood freeze. Sorina had read about these creatures before, seen drawings in various books, but she never had the privilege of seeing the actual beings. Frankly, from what she read, Sorina was fine with never seeing them, but things don’t always work out as people hope.

’Hellhounds.’ Sorina thought to herself, as though she actually needed to confirm what she saw. Instantly she cut off the seeing spell and worked on a new one, the words softly flowing out of her mouth. All these flamboyant nobility would get in the way if they stayed, and that would put them in danger. A lot of them may be dull and pompous, but their lives were now officially her responsibility. No one deserved to be devoured by a hellhound, and so she would make them leave.

Or rather, suggest that they leave. Mind magic, the power to influence a person or animal’s mind, was a magic often frowned upon by the general population. Therefore, it was strongly suggested by those in authority that mages should not practice it, and by “strongly suggested”…well, it was pretty much forbidden. Sorina, however, was fascinated with all kinds of magic, and thought that it would be disadvantageous to not learn of mind magic. She knew would never abuse the power, so she took it upon herself to teach herself the spells. Casting such magic took a lot of effort, and with this many people, Sorina would have to physically say the spell. A spoken spell, after all, was stronger than an unspoken one.

The weaker the mind, the easier it was to influence them. As Sorina began to chant, she felt another magical presence, and instinctively threw up a barrier as the people around her began to faint on the spot. Startled, she spotted a silver-haired man, a musician, that she didn't recognize. As she watched, the musician grabbed Alana's hand and pulled her out of the room.

"A good priority to get the princess," Sorina said to nobody in particular, and sighed as the remaining people in the ballroom snored on the floor. "But now you've left everyone else to suffer a morbid fate." She shook her head and dropped the barrier around her. Finding the princess would have to come later, since the more immediate problem was laying in front of her in a multitude. Sorina spoke a counter-spell, waking all those who fell asleep, and began to cast her mind magic, chanting it a firm conviction. At least, with their drowsy minds, it made it easier for her to give them all the same idea. Perhaps it is time to leave, they thought, and soon all the nobles and servants began to file out of the various doorways. Even those with stronger minds left, their thoughts clouded with the remnants of a magical sleep. It didn't take long for the ballroom to empty.

Now all that was left to do was see what the hellhounds did next. Sorina knew from her books that they were summoned to hunt, and with the ballroom empty, they would change direction unless their prey was her. She couldn't think why it would be her, though, and all those pompous nobles were not nearly important enough to be hunted by such creatures. The only conclusion would be the royal family. Sorina felt an urge to go after Alana and that strange person, but she decided to wait. Her actions would depend on what happens next.

~.:Alana Pendragon:. ~ .:Windhelm Princess:. ~ .:Female:. ~ .:21:. ~ .:Human:. ~

Alana stared at the man but was taken by surprise by his sudden grabbing of her hand and jerking her away. The sounds of howls grew ever closer and she caught a quick glimpse of Sorina still standing after the spell. All of this was very sudden but Alana got over her initial shock and planted her feet to the marble floors of the hall. Both hers and the silver haired man's arms jerked to the sudden stop as she slipped her left arm behind him and used the still moving force to slam him against the white walls "You have done well so far mage to keep me preoccupied long enough not to respond to your actions. But no one moves me without reason." Her eyes bored into his as her blade laid closely to his neck. The magic still hummed within it's dull light glowing blade but was resonating to something else, another sword? Was one of it's siblings nearby? But that was impossible, the other four swords were in their kingdoms. She did not believe this man to be a threat or he would have not taken such precautions thus far, but still he acted on impulse and she responded so "Who are you and why have you come here?" Her question was cut short however as the sounds of howls ,yet again, were far too close for comfort and the sound they made reverberated against the halls and into one's very soul making her shiver slightly under her silver armor.

The steady patter of clicks in the hall made their way to them and an eerie red glow filled the white halls around them. Alana stared in horror to the beast that was before her as an eight foot hound glared down at her with burning eyes of hate. It's jaws laid open as a voice echoed out of it's gullet "White Maiden, you were difficult to find but you have something of mine that I need. Relinquish the Sword of Peace and no one shall be harmed." Alana gritted her teeth as she drew her blade away from the musician and gave the hound a challenging steady gaze "You have dared to invade MY kingdom and yet you make demands of me? You will never take this sword." Her voice was deep but held a light tone as she aimed the sword in a defensive stance. The hounds blazing eyes narrowed as it's ears laid back flat against it's charred skin, an audible hiss escaped it's burning throat as it tensed it's muscles in preparation for a fight. A dark ember glow filled the halls and illuminated Alana as her silver armor glinted red under the hounds flares while the sword began to glow ever brighter in the face of such a creature. "I have fought far worse then you Hellhound. Come at me and you will die." The creature's face almost seemed to split in half as a wicked smile grew and an echoey laughter bellowed out "You will be the one to die this day princess!" The hound lunged and Alana struck out as her blade bit cleanly through the side of the burning creatures hide but refused to melt. The hound seemed to scream in pain and shock as lava poured freely from it's wound and it eyed both it's quarry's with a more cautious approach while Alana took up another stance once more as her eyes narrowed in challenge once more.

Aden followed the large beastly hounds as fire lulled from their jaws and saliva burned into the cobbled stone streets while their paw-prints left burning marks wherever the hounds set foot. Their eyes blazed of dying embers that cracked across their face and along their sides as if their bodies threaten to burst with the fire boiling inside. Their howls carried across the wind as their chains echoed eerily into the night while they trailed after the large dogs as they dangling from steel collars. "Rasputin as released the hounds Hugin! We must hurry." The dark Raven with glowing blue eyes flew ahead as Aden followed, jumping from rooftop to rooftop as his steps clanked against the shingles and crashed into the streets. The hounds had the scent of their prey and would not relinquish the hunt till they retrieved their master's quarry, but as to what Rasputin desired was not yet known, a good guess suggested that he was after the sword however. The hounds jumped into the Keep as the guards stared in horror and fear for few have seen such terrifying flames of death and decay. They crawled frantically through the windows into the ballroom as they both suddenly stopped. A single hound stared with hollowed eyes at a young woman before it while it's maw stood ajar and it's throat seemed to disappear into hell itself as small flames licked the side of it's mouth and eyes. The other seemed to continue out into the hallway to an unknown source as Aden lunged and threw his weight into the huge creature before it attacked the mage. "Come on Rasputin, why don't you fight yourself instead of sending your hounds to do the dirty work." His eyes flashed in the night as his silver hair seemed to gleam under the moonlight while dark flames lit his features, he knew Rasputin could hear what the hounds heard since they were apart of him but the man refused to show himself. Hugin flew in through the window and began to attack at the creatures eyes as Aden drew his blades and stabbed them into the dog's back. The creature roared as what seemed like oozing lava escaped it's wounds and melted his blades as they protruded into it. "What the-" He had to let the blade go as the steel melted into the creature and he had to jump away quickly before it's jaws snapped where he had been moments before. "A little magical help would be appreciated here mage!" He looked to the woman quickly before jumping away again from the creatures gnashing teeth as it honed in on it's new prey and an unearthly ,yet all too familiar, voice echoed from it's gullet "You can't hide the sword from me brother. It will be mine." The hounds eyes widened unnaturally as it swung it's large head at him in an effort to snap him in two "We will see about that Rasputin." Aden was not going to let this all happen again. Darkenguard was lost but the other three kingdoms still had their swords and thus were protected by the Deep Magic that laid within them "I won't let you get the swords, not this time!"

‡ Sorina Voras ‡

Sorina had been prepared to meet them, but when the two hounds smashed the window and crawled through, her body couldn't help but freeze up. Hellhounds were truly a magnificent, terrifying sight to behold beyond the pages of a book. Everything about them was fire, from their eyes of ember to its long, deadly claws. Sorina's mind raced as one of the two ran off, leaving her to face a gaping hound, flames licking at its muzzle. Sheknew she had to do something, but for the life of her she couldn't think what. These beasts were powerful. Whoever created these hounds certainly had a great hatred within their heart.

'A raven?' Before Sorina could scold herself for being so easily distracted by a bird, the raven attacked the remaining hellhound, ripping at its eyes. Then Sorina watched in disbelief as another silver-haired man stab at the creature. She didn't notice his presence before... where had he come from? Why were silver-haired men in abundance today? By the gods, what was happening around here??

His voice galvanized her body into action as he reminded her that she should try using her spells to fight the beast. She began to search for a spell within her mind that could weaken the hound as she listened to the conversation between Silver Hair and this...Rasputin. Sorina didn't know of anyone by the name of Rasputin that she could think of, but judging by Silver Hair's challenge, this Rasputin was his brother, and he was after the swords. The only swords worth taking were the Swords of Power, which meant the hounds initial target was Alana, and for some reason or another Silver Hair was trying to stop them. If Sorina needed any reason to help him (which she didn't, since he did technicaly save her life), it would be that he was a potential ally.

Hellhounds being completely made up of fire, it would make sense for them to have an aversion to cold. There wasn't much in her books about hellhounds in terms of their weaknesses, but cold was like the natural enemy to fire. Sorina began to speak the magic words and held out a hand in front of her, palm facing the hound. It was a short spell, and as soon as she finished ray of frost burst out from her hand in quick, steady stream. At the same time, Sorina grabbed her dagger from her hip with her free hand and tossed it to Silver Hair.

"Here, catch!" She yelled to catch his attention. "The blade's reinforced with my magic, so it shouldn't burn...easily."

- Howl Nephetys -

"Ouch... throwing me at the wall with a sword at my neck? Pretty yet deadly... I like it.", Howl gave a little smile. "I can't say that I'm a mage... I'm just a musician with a few magical skills.", after that, the question came, "Who are you and why have you come here?", the princess got cut by the evil presence of that strange dog, each step, a blaze mark on the ground, Howl have never seen such creature, but one thing was certain, he had to take the princess away. When he was almost reaching her she made her move, the Hellhound attacked her and she defended herself with a quick sword draw and a perfect move. The blade even after touching that flame body was like new, and yet hurted the dog, who falled right after that. "Nice move m'lady...", Alana entered in another fighting stance, she was ready for another attack of the dark creature. "Princess, if you don't want to die, and leave all your kingdom without a leader, I think it's better to trust me for now.", he saw the princess eyes, she would keep fighting until death no matter what. The musician moved in front of her, grabbed both arms firmly and said, "You have no choice.", she looked shocked, but it doesn't matter at that moment, again he started to pull the princess upstairs, as the Hellhound was getting up again. What a giant tower, not knowing where he was taking her, the stairs never ended, "I'll protect you with my life... but you gotta help me... got it?", finally they reached somewhere, the top of the tower, it was a pretty endless night, blessed by the shine of the moon, the only problem...? There was nowhere to go.

[More updates are in the Glossary. You can now read about the properties of what Deep Magic is in Eldemore as well as a more detailed description on Dark Elves. Also to those who have one of the four swords in possession, you can come up with any power that befits it's purpose or trait and I would love to see what you guys do with these ancient blades! Ylva has the sword of wisdom and either Lyden or Kit may take possession of the sword of will. ~Benathorn]

Alana was once more dragged away against her better judgement. This seemed only to spur the hellhound more as it pursued it's now running quarry once more. Alana was beginning to grow tired of running and realized this man did not know where he was going as the sword at her side began to thrum much louder to an almost audible hum. "This way musician." She took the lead this time as they traveled farther up the tower and her mind swirled with everything going on. They reached the towers peak as the wind blistered through the large opening in the tower and the howls of the hound echoed close behind "Now it is your turn to trust me." She took the sliver haired man's arm gently but then hurtled him over the edge as she quickly followed. Here it was once more, her heart called out to her constant friend as the image of the hound peered furiously over the towers edge, it's eyes showed anger as it lost it's prey and it howled into the night. Now they were at a free fall as the two grew ever closer to the ground. She knew she would never hit the earth's surface but as for the musician she did not know his fears. The steady wing beats nearby filled her with joy as Raphael scooped her and the man from a certain death "Got you!" the dragon's voice resonated as he spoke to them but peered curiously at his other catch "Who is this?" Alana situated herself on the crimson dragon's back as Raphael held the silver haired man "He is a musician who insists I trust him." The dragon snorted as his golden eyes turned to slits and he passed him up to sit upon his back "Musician? That there is a Dark Elf who is very far from home." The dragon let out a growl as he said this and picked up speed to bring them up into the air.

Alana was about to respond when Raphael let out a sudden roar and the three of them were hit hard by something. The dragon roared in fury as all Alana could see were a very large mass of black feathers against the dragon's red scales as he tried to dislodge whatever it was attacking them. "Give me the sword Maiden!" Alana caught a glimpse of what appeared to be both a bird and man melded into one and recognized this to be one of the ancient avians of Darkenguard. The man's eyes were a dark red as he reached for her and pulled her away as the two plummeted to the ground once more at terrifying speeds. The creature reached for her sword as she fought to keep it in her grip. Claws and feathers were everywhere as she pleaded for some relief in her mind "No! you won't take it, I'll never let you take it!" She screamed at him but her voice was carried away on the wind as the sword seemed to glimmer and burst with a white flame as the Deep Magic replied to her plight at the threat of the sword being taken. Everything was blinded for a few moments as the light illuminated the night for a split second and dissipated. Alana was nowhere to be found and both the sword and her were gone.

Aden looked up sharply to the female mage as she threw him a magic embedded dagger as he grasp it quickly and turned to the hound. It's jaws hung ajar as it growled viciously and lunged once more. Aden threw the knife directly into the hounds eye as it lumbered and screamed in pain to the sudden cold that entered it's burning flesh. Aden took this opportunity to finish the job as he jumped to stab the dagger deeper till it was almost entirely in the large dog's skull. The hound jolted and spasm on the ground as the dagger hissed and began to melt from the canines lava filled body. But the magic blade had done the trick and the dog began to turn to ash and crumble in on itself as if it were nothing more then a charred tree trunk. Aden was out of breath as he looked to his seared hands and tried to put out any flames that clung to his clothes and armor "Well, that was a hassle now wasn't it?" He looked to the mage with a smile "Quick thinking there, I appreciate your resourcefulness." Suddenly a bright flash of light made him squint and cover his eyes as the illumination made him see spots afterwards "Oh great..." His shoulders slunk as Hugin came to alight on his head and spoke in an old tongue "Deep Magic has responded to the Maiden's pleas for help. She has been transported to a safer place." Aden gave a heavy sigh as he pushed back his long hair that stuck to his brow from the sweat "Just great. She could be anywhere now." Hugin pecked at his brow as he recoiled from the sudden prick "The maiden is at Stonehenge but the stones move of their own free will. The only night that it reveals itself is tomorrow on the day of Peace." Aden shook his head "Well at least it means the sword is safe huh?" Aden looked to the mage as a procession of guards stormed the ballroom and aimed their weapons at him.

Aden was surprised by the quick assault but was soon faced with a very large man who looked like a wall of stone. "Where is my daughter and the Sword of Peace?" The king spoke mildly but his eyes burned with fury as he forced Aden down and aimed a sword at his neck. Aden was on his knees with his hands up and head down as he glared to the king "You Humans, always kill first and ask questions later right?" This earned him a kick to his stomach for his smart remark as her tried to keep himself from falling to the ground fully from the pain "Listen I came here to help you!" Aden tried to explain as the king ignored him and gave an order as a few knights piked him up and kept his arms behind his back "Your an elf? Your kind has not been seen for quite sometime...put him in the dungeons for now. I will question this elf later." Aden did not try to resist as Hugin watched from above with bright blue eyes at the scene that transpired below. The raven stayed still as his companion was taken away and looked expectantly at the mage, waiting for a chance to speak with her when preying ears were not so near.

‡ Sorina Voras ‡

Sorina sighed at the loss of her dagger, but didn’t mourn it. She could easily make another one with a stronger magical reinforcement. In fact, it pleased her that this blade was done in by a hellhound of all things. Perhaps the next one will be able to withstand even more.

“Indeed it was a hassle.” Sorina replied, casting a smile to match Silver Hair’s. She raised her hand to throw a mock salute in response to his compliment, but instead to she covered her eyes when a flash of blinding light erupted from outside. Sorina winced, both from the light than soon ebbed, and from the strong burst of Deep Magic that accompanied it. Such power left her breathless, and she listened wordlessly as the raven explained what had happened.

’These two seem to know a lot about what’s going on around here.’ She herself was clueless, something she wasn’t very fond of being. Sorina figured she reserved the right to ask questions now, but perhaps after she healed his hands. They appeared to be burned pretty badly.

Sorina took a step forward, and as if on cue, the king and his men came bursting into the ballroom. Instantly they surrounded Silver Hair, pushing her back as if to protect her. “Wait!” she cried out, but she was stubbornly ignored as King Lucas’s ordered Silver Hair to be thrown in the dungeon. “Wait, your Majesty! Listen to me!” She tried to force her way through the soldiers, but easily inferior in strength, she couldn’t get through. Desperate, Sorina cried out a spell that sealed the doors shut, closing the king, his entourage, and Silver Hair inside. That got everyone’s attention.

Sorina faltered slightly as she realized what she had just done. She had used magic to defy the royal bloodline, and that was a huge breach in her oath. Although King Lucas appeared calm, she could see his eyes burned with a fury that Sorina knew could spell her fate. Under his gaze, she felt like shrinking back, but she composed herself. Her stance and face appeared unruffled by the king’s anger, even though on the inside Sorina was throwing a fit.

“Forgive me, your Majesty.” Sorina said before the king could get a word out, and bowed quickly. “But this man saved my life, and I beg you to give him a chance. Trust me when I say he is not an enemy, despite his…” she hesitated, trying to find the correct word. “Nationality.” She turned her green eyes to the king, a look of conviction setting her features. “He can help you find the princess. He is on our side.”

At least, she sincerely hoped he was. After all she said, if Silver Hair wasn’t what she described, Sorina would probably cease to exist.

I've been dumped a boatload of work to do before college, so I will post when I can. Life is my nemesis.
