Sammy-- "No thanks. I need Vally to learn to work on her own" Sammy replied and waved to Lex.
Sammy asked very lightly for a little bit more walk. Vally walked and her ears were pricked. She was walking in a straight line and curved her head without Sammy asking. Sammy gave the filly a little pat and Vally sighed in relief. It was almost like Vally was relieved that she didn't have a crop in her hand.
A little hoarse laughter came from behind Sammy. She turned around to see Charlie laughing like a 2 year old had milk coming out of it's nose.
"What's so funny Charlie?" Sammy asked.
"That filly is a real hiccup causer. She sighed when you gave her a pat." Charlie laughed." I've never seen a horse do that!" Charlie said and laughed/hiccuped the way back to the barn.
"Vally" Sammy said. "He scares me sometimes."
Sammy went back to work and asked the filly to pick up a trot. Sammy. Felt. Like. A. Cloud.
The filly's gait was so smooth. She sat to it a couple of times. Vally's feet were picking up, her neck arched, swift movements. Sammy had to admit, this filly's trot was better that Prude's.
Sammy let the fill walk a minute and let out some rein, this tim e to the buckle. The filly released her head and stretched itout.
"Well girl, looks like we have to just about break the news to Ash tha you are not a race horse. More of like a dressage horse."Sammy said stroking the filly.
Sammy picked up her reins and asked for a trot. She sat to it and then stoppped. She decided to let down some holes on her stirrups so she could glide with the canter. If the trot was smooth, the canter is probley evern better. Sammy picked up the reins asked for a trot and sat a few strides and asked for a canter. Sammy could feel the filly tense up , so Sammy placed a hand on the filly's neck and asked again. This time, no tense and they went.
"Wow." Sammy said under her breath.
Sammy felt like she was hit with a bucket of joy. The filly has the best canter ever. Nice and smooth and easy to sit too. Sammy placed her hands on the filly's neck and sat up to a 2-Point for a minute and asked for a little more speed. The filly had no hesitations. She simply picked up her speed and remained that amazing smooth stride.
"This is the best horse ever." Sammy thought.

Lex- she nodded and moved Champ out at an easy trot before asking for a slow canter just going through those three paces feeling for any slight change in his gait she smiled when she found none, "Good boy Champ" she said before taking him back and untacking him before walking slowly into Sierra's stall and gently slipping the halter over her head

(that's ok. And you know, if you are sooo tired, you can quit early and we can continue this tomorrow.)
Sammy--- Sammy cooled out Vally and walked her up to the barn. She untacked her and put her in a small paddock to roll around and graze for a few. Sammy went into the "shared tack room"
The shared tack room is where items are stored that are for everybody.
Sammy grabbed some saddle soap and a sponge and walked back to Vally's stall. She grabbed a a saddle rack and placed the saddle on it and began cleaning.
About 30 minutes later the saddle turned from a light tan to a dark chocolate brown, and it shone. She put the saddle away and mucked out the stall and made it extra special. Sammy thought the filly deservered the cleanest stall and made sure it had sparkling clean water buckets and a full net of grass hay. Sammy measured out about 1/4 cup of Vally's favorite grain and sprinkled some molasses and sunflower seeds in it. She put the bucket of grain on the hook in the filly's stall and stepped back to admire her hard work. Sammy walked to the paddock to grab the filly. She grabbed Vally's maroon colored halter from the white fence and walked over to the filly with a carrot.
"Come on Vally. I've got a surprize for you." Sammy coaxed the filly.
The filly's ears were pricked and walked a step, stopped and walked another step. Sammy walked closer and then the filly bolted the other direction! The filly took off with her tail up and head held high and the whinned.
"Ok, I'll walk farther over there, but the carrot is Abbey's now." Sammy said.
Sammy walked over to the filly, who's nostrils were flaring and she stood there staring at Sammy. Sammy was 8 feet away from the filly, and then, again, the filly this time cantered tp the other side of the small paddock. Good thing it was just her in the paddock cause she would've made a storm of galloping dummies. But, Vally didnt stop cantering, she picked up her speed and was headed toward the fence which was 5 Feet High!!
Sammy shut her eyes, and the peeked at the filly. The filly cantered smoothly and perfectly over thr the 5 foot tall fence. Vally jumped it, trotted a few and turned and stared at Sammy who was in amazement.
Then she whinned as if to say, "Ha. I did something you couldn't do."
Sammy walked out to get the filly and this time, no games were played with Vally

Sammy-- Sammy lead Vally up back to the mare's barn and gave Vally a quick brush off. She double checked Vally's legs for signs that her leg was injured.
Sammy grabbed Vally's halter and made eye contact with the filly.
"Don't ever do that again young lady." Sammy said with a tone that sounded serious.
The filly bobbed her head up and down as if saying, "Agreed"
Sammy let out a sigh and gave the filly a pat. She was glad to be working with Vally. She may be difficult at some times but she was a perfect Thoroughbred. Sammy led the filly into her clean stall and gave her a scoup of grain.
Sammy walked out of the mare's barn and overlooked the pastures, where Prude was currently grazing, the training barn and the yearling barn. Sammy took a deep breath and looked both ways for horses, and noticed that her white and pink roses were dying. She grabbed the water hose and gave the flowers a quick drink. Then, Mike ran over to Sammy.
"Sammy! Great news! I've decided to breed Abbey again!"Mike exclaimed.
"Really?"Sammy asked. "That's wonderful!"
Abbey was a wonderful racehorse with lots of potensial. Her amazingly silky black coat and diamond on her forehead. Abbey had brought in a great deal of money in her races. From $0 to about $45,000. Abbey had helped the Hendrix's family with financial problems a couple years after her mother died.
"Yup."replied Mike."And I know the perfect horse to."
Mike held up the Racing Times newspaper.
-Horse of The Year-
Wonder's Pride, owned by Ashleigh Griffen Resse.
"Pride?" asked Sammy.
Pride was Ashleigh's prized stallion. Won many races in his 2-4 year old season. Ashleigh retired him and now is at stud. Pride is out of Wonder, Ashleigh's best mare. Ash saved the mare when she was a foal and trained her to win many races like the Kentucky Derby. She is living happily in retirement at Ash's racing farm.
"That's right. Ashleigh called me this morning and told me the idea. She thought it was perfect. But, I accepted the offer without telling you." Mike said as he ran his hands through his head. "So, Ash is bringing Pride over this Wednesday."
Sammy didn't know what to say. She couldn't wait to see the foal of Abbey and Pride. She was so excited, the hose was watering the ground instead of the flowers. She quickly turned it off and went back to her dad.
"That's amaing. I'm so ex-" She cut herself short. Mike then gave her a puzzled look.
"What?" Mike asked.
"What about Lex? She may think this isn't a good idea about breeding a prized broodmare after what happened to Misty." Sammy said, with a little disappointment in her.
"Oh ya. I almost forgot. I was dreaming about Abbey and Pride's foal. Well. There are other chances and soon her little filly is going to be weaned and she has Sierra. I'll work something out with her." Mike said and gave Sammy a little pat on the shoulders.
Mike walked back to the office in the stallion barn to continue his paper work. Sammy walked over to the stallion barn after putting the hose away. She felt her pocket to make sure she had a carrot in it, which she did. Clove wouldn't forgive me if I walked into his stall without a carrot, Sammy thought. She walked over to Clove's stall.
"He big boy." Sammy said as she unlatched the hook on Clove's stall.
The big chestnut nickered as she approached, searching for a carrot.
"I hope you have a sister Clove. Then we could name her 4-Leaf Clover." Sammy said and she rubbed the colt's neck.
After a while Sammy looked at her watch and saw it was 5:13. Feeding started at 5:30 so she figured she would start a tad early. She gave Clove a final pat and a quick hug and closed the door. She walked over to the yearling barn first to start feeding.
