Dogs are mirrors of humans emotion-wise; if you are stressed out your dog (and others around you) will pick up on it and become stressed themselves and may become afraid and lash out even more.
There is absolutely no reason to ever kick or strike a dog. No matter how lightly you may have thought you did it – chihuahuas are TINY and humans, in comparison, are MUCH larger. What doesn't feel like much to you may have hurt quite a bit to the dog; dogs have a much higher tolerance for pain than humans and won't always show it. Even if you think the dog deserved it – who are you to decide? Take the high road, don't react to the chihuahua how it reacted to your dog – you're a person, right, surely you are more mature than a dog?
Yes, the dog appeared to have been attacking yours – but you didn't witness everything (you yourself said you turned away from the dogs and were not supervising their interactions). Dogs communicate with very subtle signals, you were the one to have missed whatever ones sparked the 'fight.' Did your dog step on the chihuaha (if it is larger), or did they get possessive of a toy or something? Dogs, like people, can have disagreements about many things, and dogs who don't know each other well might test each other to see who is more dominant.
Also... do you have some anger issues? You wanted to shoot someone just because they laughed at you? You wanted to jeopardize their very life because you were embarrassed? Do you not think that's a little extreme? Maybe talking to someone you trust might help, that's not really something to joke about.
Youve never had your dog get attacked, did you? I really don't think you know how it feels like. I didn't really "kick it", I just tapped it, really. Its just thinking about it makes me think about what i wanted to do. And I dont think you read it throughly. I said they were laughing at the fight, just sitting there while watching the attack go on.
There was no toy, and my dog is a teeny bit bigger, not even an inch taller. and acually, I turned around when I heard the first growl. Then the chihuahua attacked.
And who tells you that I have anger issues! read it throughly, man. I wasnt embarrassed, and why would I? I never wrote that I joked about it! Seriously, if your dog got attacked and THREE OLD PPL were laughing while watching it, what would you want to do? Exactly.
MY DOG WAS BLEEDING!!! DUH!
Actually, I have been around dogs all my life and there have been a ton of situations where I had to keep a level head instead of lashing out and making a situation worse. Not that it is anything to be proud of – I strive to ensure my dogs are never at risk for anything, but sometimes dogs can be unpredictable, hence why I watch my dogs when they are around strange dogs I don't know well.
Just because your dog is bleeding does not mean to OMG FREAK OUT OMG OMG MUST KICK DOG OMG!!!!!!!! Dogs need to trust that you are a reliable leader, dogs definitely have a pack mentality – you are the Alpha, but you need to make sure you are a good one or else a dog may decide to assume command, regardless of if it's a large or small breed; their brains work the same way regardless of size.
And yes, I assume that you are embarrassed because you were mad that people are laughing at you. Laughing at someone does not automatically mean they should die. o_O That's how we end up with school shootings and whatnot, that same exact reaction of "Stop laughing at me! Jeez you should just dieee" etc. etc.
And what should the bystanders have done? Leaped into the middle of a dogfight? That wouldn't have been a smart thing to do, regardless of if it involved a chihuahua, who, as you said, can inflict damage and draw blood.
Also, I'm not a man :/ Thanks.
If my dog was bleeding and/or being attacked, I would not react with anger because that only stresses the dog out further. And "Prying" a dog off of another if they are fighting is also a huge no-no, what if that was a labrador? A rottweiler? Basically any dog breed that is a heck of a lot larger than a Chihuahua? That dog would have the strength to turn on you and seriously harm you. Never, ever get between two fighting dogs, no matter how one-sided it may be. There are tons of articles on the net on techniques to try and separate two fighting dogs, and I can say with 99.9% certainty NONE of them will say "Pry the offending dog off of yours!"
Look, I'm not trying to fight, I'm just appalled at what you so openly admit online. Kicking a dog? Your wording, not mine. Even if it was just a 'tap,' like I said, you are way stronger than a Chihuahua, what seems like nothing to you could have been much worse for that dog. Chihuahuas are so small compared to us, you are not their size so you can not speak for what kind of pressure hurts and what is just a 'tap.' And I see soooo many people who react like you do to stressful situations with dogs and it never results in good.Trust me.
Anyway, good luck.
they werent laughing at me, they were laughing at the fight
