Paws in the Dust

You've been wandering these woods for awhile. Sniffing the air, you smell cat-scents. Quickly hiding under the brush, you spot a large calico she-cat. She sniffs the air and whispers to the black tom next to her something you can't quite hear. The she-cat warily crouches around the spot where you are until she's sitting completely still. Slowly, you begin to back away, trying to make as little sound as possible but it's too late. She pounces and lands on top of you. "Loner!" The calico yells. The black tom scampers back into the forest. The she-cat gets off of you but has your tail in a tight grip between her claws. "What are you doing here?" She asks, her eyes narrowing. The next thing you say will determine your future. This is where your story begins.

The cat that you meet will vary, depending on what clan you decide to join.

Rules

. All of Tess' rules apply
. If I'm gone, you can not, and I repeat, can not go over five pages without me
. No cursing, GM/PP, etc.
. Use proper grammar and punctuation.
. Please don't have your own characters crush/mate each other. Interact with others!
. Keep genders even!
. Have fun!
. When creating an apprentice, you must create a warrior too.
. You may have as many characters as you want but you in charge of all of them and don't go overboard on the cats.
. When a she-cat has kits, no more then seven kits in the litter.
. Please use my forums.
. Be sure to ask about something in private message before you do it. Ex: Mating.
. Use (), [], {} etc. when talking out of character(ooc.)
. Fill out everything in the forum.
. PM me if you would like to become a mod.
. Keep everything PG-13. We don't want the details of how someone is ripped to shreds, which we shouldn't be roleplaying anyways.
. Fade to black or go into PM if your characters are going to do something in detail. Ex: Killing or Mating.

Warrior Code

1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.

3. Elders, Queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.

5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.

6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.

7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires.

9. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.

10. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.

11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

12. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.

13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

Fighting/Hunting Moves

■Back Kick - Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully, then lash out with your back legs, taking all weight on your front paws.
■Belly Rake - A fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws against the soft flesh of the opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back into control.
■Front Paw Blow - Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed.
■Front Paw Strike - Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the face or body of your opponent.
■Killing Bite - A death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable. Used only as a last resort.
■Leap-And-Hold - Ideal for a small cat facing a larger opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of the opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way. Watch for the drop-and-roll counter move, and try to jump free before you get squashed.
■Partner Fighting - Warriors who have trained and fought together will often fall instinctively into a defensive position, each protecting each other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.
■Play Dead - Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in attacking position.
■Scruff Shake - Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponents neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, who are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.
■Teeth Grip - Target your opponent's extremities- the legs, tail, scruff or ears- and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight.
■Upright Lock - Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip him under you. This makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so it takes great strength and speed.
■Half-Turn Belly Rake - Turn onto your side, slip under the opponent's belly, rake it with your claws, then swiftly turn back onto all fours out from under your opponent.
■Badger Defense- Leap over opponent, turn on your back legs and bite opponent's leg. Used only when fighting badgers.

Medicinal Herbs,Berries,Roots,and Other

Juniper Berries: Stomach aches and coughs.Chew,swallow,and soon you'll be better. Horrible taste. Blue berries.

Broom: Good for broken legs and wounds.Chew into poultice and spit onto wound. Will sting.

Marigold leaves: Good for infected wounds. Chew into paste and spit onto the infected wound. Will sting.

Chervil leaves: For infected wounds and preventing infected wounds. Chew into paste and press the paste on the wound. It will sting.

Yarrow: Used to make cats vomit if eaten. Only give it to cats that ate something poisonous. Sometimes when cats are really sick yarrow is used to make the patient vomit out the sickness.That only works sometimes.

Feverfew: Helps chills, fevers, coughs,and headaches. Eat. Has bitter smell and taste.

Lavender: Helps chills, fevers, and coughs. Eat. Smells sweet. Light green leaves.

Catnip(Catmint): Whitecough, greencough, or black cough. Soft leaves with irresistible smell and taste. Eat.

Goldenrod poultice: Aching joints. Rub onto spot that aches.

Poppy seeds: One of the most basic remedies. Eases pain and soothes the heart. Eat, but not too much at a time. Poppy seeds also help you fall asleep.

Mousebile: The name says it all. It's a mouses bile. A little green sack that comes out of the mouse. Press on ticks. Soon they'll drop off. Warning! Do not eat mousebile or you'll have that horrible taste in your mouth for days! To carry around, put mousebile in a big leaf and wrap up the leaf, and then you can carry it. Be sure to wash your paws when done. In a stream of course.

Chamomile: Eat. Used for soothing cats in distress. Tastes good.

Traveling herbs: One type is to give you strength.The other is to help you from feeling hungry.Eat before going on a long journey.

Cobwebs: The most basic remedy. Used to stop bleeding. Press and hold cobwebs on wound until bleeding stops.

Horsetail: Infected wounds. Apply horsetail juice on the wound. It will sting.

Coltsfoot: Helps with breathing. Eat.

Watermint: The best cure for bellyaches. Eat. Has a really good minty taste, you'll know when you eat it.

Comfery: Small dark green leaved plant that blooms white, purple or pale yellow flowers. Used for healing injuries and broken bones quicker.

Celandine: Good for soothing irritated eyes. Eat. Small medium shaded leaves with yellow flowers.

Poisonous Plants

Deathberries: One of these berries will kill any cat without medicine cat treatment right away. If a cat eats them, then scoop all the berry leftovers out of their mouth. Then force them to swallow yarrow. The cat will vomit out most of the poison, but not all of it. They will be very sick for the next few days. Has dark green leaves and scarlet berries. Otherwise known as 'yew'.

Nightshade: Has dark green leaves. There are three types of nightshade. Black nightshade is the most common. It has dark purple berries. Another kind has lighter red berries. Use yarrow as treatment just as deathberries. Grows well in wet places.

Ragwort: Even though ragwort is used for medicinal uses, it is highly poisonous, as it often gets cows and horses very sick. Use yarrow right away. Juniper also helps afterward.

Leader: "I say these words before the body of previous deputy, so that his/her spirit may hear and approve my choice. New deputy will be the new deputy of Clan name."


Making Apprentices:
Leader: "By naming apprentices, we show that Clan name will survive and remain strong."

Leader: " From this moment on, until he/she has earned his/her Warrior Name, this Apprentice will be known as kit name+paw."

Leader: "Mentor's name, you are now ready to take on an apprentice. You will be mentor to Apprentice's name. Mentor's name, you have shown yourself to be a warrior of Virtue #1 and Virtue #2 . I'm sure you will pass on all you know to this apprentice."


New Mentor Ceremony
Leader: " I call upon my warrior ancestors to give this apprentice a new mentor. Apprentice name, you have lost your first mentor, so your new mentor will be new mentor's name"


Making Warriors:
Leader: Mentors name are you satisfied that this apprentice is ready to become a warrior?"

Mentor: "Yes, she/he is ready"

Leader: "I Leader name, leader of clan name call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. He/she has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him/her to you as a warrior in his/her turn."

Leader: "Apprentice name, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend this clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Apprentice: " I do "

Leader: " Then by the powers of Starclan I give you your warrior name. Apprentice name, from now on, you will be known as Warrior name. Clan name welcomes you as a full warrior."


Warriors to Elders:
Leader: "Warrior name, is it your wish to give up the name of warrior and go to join the elders?

New elder: 'it is'

Leader: " Your clan honors you and all the service you have given us. I call upon Starclan to give you many seasons of rest."


New Name:
Leader: "I call upon my warrior ancestors to take away the name of this cat. For it now longer stands for who she/he is. Cat name, from now on, you shall be known as new name.


Medicine Cat Apprentice:
Medicine Cat: Apprentice name, is it your wish to enter into the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?

Medicine Cat Apprentice: It is.

Medicine Cat: Then come forward

She/he has trained hard to understand the way of a medicine cat, and with your help, she/he will serve his/her Clan for many moons. Apprentice name, do you promise to uphold the way of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan, and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?
