Hello. I'm Alice. My mother and father gave me this book to write in, but I didn't see it of much use until now. I am a slave. I mostly do all the cooking and cleaning insidemy master's house. My room is in the attic, and it is very stuffy in there, but I do not mind. I sleep on the floor with a wool blanket, and I don't eat a lot at all, but I do have a medium - sized chest for all my stuff, which isn't much. I also have a little bird, her name is Lunar. I didn't name her, though. She can talk! But only to me. She says she doesn't know why, but I bet i'm more suprised then you are. She just flew through my window one day and started talking. Oh, here is a picture of me. I'm suprised Master has not cut my hair like most Masters do, but I guess she just has no use for it. Lunar is on my shoulder.

I'm not really supposed to have a camera, but my parents gave me this, too. Mother is dead now and I do not know were father is. I've never really seen anything, like citys and cows and sheep, since Master does not let me out. I haven't seen Sunshine in so long because she closes all the windows, it's always so dark in this house. Her children call her Ms.Plumbroth and she has a really short temper. She looks nice, but I think she hates me. Here's another picture, this one is of Ms.Plumbottem, but I have to call her Master.

Master's kids are so mean! They always make messes everywere, and I always have to clean them up. It's just horrifing, but if I disobey, Master may slit my tongue in half, that'l make me unable to talk. Forever. I really don't want that happening! But if it does, at least Lunar will be there to comfort me. Lunar always makes me laugh.

I enjoyed writing it myself. I may get 1 - 5 pages done each day depending on how busy I am, in fact, I am working on one right now! ^^

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be normal, but I always push the thoughts away. Lunar tells me that I should have hope, but I don't really have any. Who would ever come to save me? Anyway, Master does 'babysitting', and I have to help. Actually, I do almost all of the work, Master just sits their counting her cash. Most of the kids are sweet and I love them as if they were my own children, but there's one that's completly obnoxious. He likes to play pranks on master, and then blame it one me. I've only gotten hit once because Master noticed him the other times. He also finds almost everything that involves me getting hurt amusing. His name is Noah. Here's a picture. He always wears this little hat.

Doesn't he look cute? Well, he's not. Once he put a mouse in Master's hair! That got him into a lot of trouble.
Lunar was talking about the moon and the star's last night, but I told her that I don't know what those are. She seemed very sad, but she soon cheered up and told me what they were. They sound beautiful! I wish I could pluck a star out of the sky and bring it here, but Lunar told me that that way impossible since stars were incredibly far away. I told her that I could dream and she made a weird snort-giggle sound that made me laugh.
When I was with Father, I had always wanted to be a writer or a poet. But I know that's impossible now. As a slave; all I can do is work. I heard Canada didn't have slaves, but I'm much too far away from that place. I dream that I could go there. Maybe one day I will. Maybe one day.
But that would be dangerous. If they catch you, the'll bring you back and slit you tongue so you can't speak. I've heard of other slaves being hanged because of this, which I never want happening to me! I've also heard that they torture you. But Lunar says that there's a secret mine to get to Canada, but she doesn't know were it is. It's why they do this to slaves who escape. She says that she wants me to try, but I really do not want to die! And were will I live if I make it there?

I cannot belive what happened today!
Noah was doing his normal stuff, plotting against me, when there was a weird sound! It sounded something like yee ooo yeee ooo and I had never heard it before. Master's eyes widened, which didn't usally happen, and she stomped toward the door, swinging it open. Lunar told me that something had happened and that it was best not to go outside, but my curiosity got the better of me. Master had left the door open and I peeked outside. Men were taking a growling man away, he had scratches all over his face and his paws were handcuffed. Lunar told me that he probably did something bad and that they were taking hom away. That's when I came to realise how bad this place must be. While I was watching, I saw a girl peeking through an attic. She was about the same age as me, and she made me smile. I got to take a picture before she looked away.

She's very pretty; probably prettier then me. I wish I had her looks and hair, but that's impossible again, of course. Everything seems to be impossible in this world. Maybe if slaves didn't exist, if the world was a perfect place, we could have been friends. I told Lunar my idea and she said that the world would never be perfect. I belive her, from what i've seen so far, I don't think it would be in a million years. Of course, I would be in the Other World by then, so I would never find our. I wonder what happens when you die? If I knew, I couldn't tell you because I'd be dead anyway! I guess that's the problem. Nobody knows because the people that know have died already. Oh well, i'm not really concerned about this right now. Lunar is hungry and I have a bit of cake as a gift from one of the children, oh how nice they are!
